Is Tip.It really an "official" fan site?

Despite the fact I used the words 'official fan site' in the title, RuneScape has no 'official fan site.' Instead, what I am referring to is the Rules of Conduct.

Rule 4 - Cheating/Bug Abuse

You must not exploit, or attempt to exploit, any errors that you may find in our software. This includes giving other players step-by-step instructions on how to find and/or abuse them.

Any exploits that you find must be immediately reported to Jagex via Customer Support. There is no need to post your problem or opinion about an in-game glitch on the forums; it will not solve the problem.

Anyways, this brings us to Tip.It. In order to be a fansite, Jagex requests that you break none of their rules, otherwise they reserve the right to remove their content from your site.

The TIF has a topic based on discussing bugs and glitches. This is a blatant offense according to the rules, as it is not allowed on the RSOF.

I was reading the Rules for the TIF and this is one of the first things said there:

Tip.It forums are NOT Official RuneScape Forums and are not endorsed or sanctioned by Jagex, Ltd. in any way. The RuneScape Rules are strictly enforced on Tip.It forums.

Hmm....

So, let's hear it. Should the TIF be modified to remove this and accommodate the rules, or be blotched by this imperfection?

I was thinking of posting this in the Forum Updates & Suggestions topic but decided to post it here to hear from the Tip.It community.

Your not allowed to post exploits or ways to abuse bugs on tip it, hence your topic is a big failure.

Indeed.

Zybez is worse believe it or not. They allow Real World Trading and they show gold selling advertisements.

On the offical forums we stricktly enfore the no posting bugs eliment of the rules, as sadly there is a large number of players who will aim to abuse bugs for personal game.

The tip.it forum whilst yes bugs can be discussed..... only bugs that cannot be exploited can be talked about and the mods remove subjects on abusable errors.

Ingame it is important to remember what can and cannot be reported for bug abuse, it is only considered "abuse" if the player is gaining from it's exploit. So for example the player killing that followed a POH bug was considered abuse, and the player was banned for it's exploit.

HOWEVER if you take an old bug like when you sat down and changed your weapon thus messing up the animation... the player doing it where gaining no benifit and so it was not considered abuse.

Although it a player charged another to show them how it works this would then become bug abuse.

You can get reported for saying Tip.it in game, this means it is not an official site as JaGex does not endorse it.

[hide=Click Here to learn how to not make a fool of yourself!]Try actually reading the thread before making a post...

My first sentence says that I'm not saying Tip.It is an endorsed fan site. Jagex states that for a site to be a fansite it must not be breaking any rules. [/hide]

I am pretty sure that if JagEx had their way fansites in general would be against the rules and visiting one a ban able offense. But that would just make them sound like morons, so they dont do it. They really should have an offical list of endorsed fansites or communities so players know where to go.

Both andrew and paul have accounts here at tip it, and before rs had official forums andrew and paul were regular posters on scapeboard tip its predecessor.

Try again.

I am yet to discover a thread that is actively seeking to discuss/encourage cheating. The bugs/faults page is more a graphics etc area.

If you don't like the site, you are welcome to go elsewhere. It's no skin off my nose.

I don't recall ever saying I don't like this site. This is the debate forum, where people post topics to debate on, not rant about.

There is a difference between exploiting and discussing. In discussing you are warning other players about potentially dangerous bugs in the game. If players were to post step by step instructions then they would be breaking Jagex's rules.

Bug Abuse would be something like this: (Not a real bug)

Take 5 steps south of the varrock east bank, drop an item, teleport to fally as the animation is going and the item will stay in your inventory. Teleport back to varrock and it will be on the ground! you just duped your item!

Stuff like talking about skill-cape emotes in egg form isn't really bug abuse though.

Actually, I only called one person a moron. Twice.

Why? Because he didn't read the post, just the title.

"Tip.it is not official. there are no official fansites of runescape."

This has nothing to do with the RuneScape Bugs thread.

By the way, I hope you didn't break your leg jumping into our conversation, so you shut up. Mmkaybai.

Considering Scapeboard/Tip was the first and largest Runescape fansite and base made by the pioneers who started playing the game as well as having the very founders of Jagex visit here would naturally make an official fansite. If tip.it is filtered, it's because Jagex has a rule against advertising websites. It's even in the reportable offences in-game.

"300 programmers make their futile but glorious last stand against 1000000 angry players in The battle of Misthalin. They fight for honor, glory and new content sacrificing themselves so that their game may live on. This is Madness! This Is JAGEEEX!"

I don't see any problem with the bugs&suggestions forums. Most of the glitchs posted there are mostly graphical errors or just inconviniences that hinder a good playing experience.

Obviously the rule state bug abuse for personal gain is not allowed, and such threads doesn't occur in the forum, so it has not break any rules. I'm sure any thread in there that does would be edited and locked by mods.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

If you want to have a private conversation dont use a public forum, there is a private message system, now kindly [bleep] off, your not wanted or needed here at tip it.

Same to you.

You're stereotyping as well as just plain insulting. I on the other hand had a reason to call someone stupid because they post without thinking or bothering to read what they're posting about. You just came flat out and flamed on your very first post.

...your topic is a big failure.

Yes, very nice way to put it. Might as well say that my thread just sucks. Because there obviously aren't less rude ways to say it.

So YOU came here and YOU started the flaming. Now if you don't stop, then I will report you.

I am really pissed off that you come here and started this flame war and won't flipping let it die.
