man, this is really interesting. I wonder if rap is on its way out...

if so, what's next? heavy metal, techno (god I hope not), reggae?

I personally hope we get like a new Beatles-like band to save music.

or, most likely, rap will make a comeback in some way.

Ummm, not a lot of people buy music anymore. They just download it for free. Most rap artists don't even care. Lil Wayne, for example, said that you'd have to be stupid to actually pay for his music because it's so easy to get it for free.

good rap was gone loooong time ago.

EVERY genre has fallen in sales. The only thing is, hip-pop/rap was hit hardest since it's the most popula rmusic, and it's been that way for over a decade.

I don't know if there will be a "new" big thing, I think everything is big in it's own light. It's all up to the mainstream. And, by the looks of the majority of billboard #1 hits, the mainstream isn't quite as intelligent as it use to be.

But yes, I think rap will be undergoing a renvation, a BIG one.I'm willing to bet others have noticed this too, but rap is slowly going bakc to it's roots of lyricism and uniqueness. Kanye West's Graduation is already platinum, and it's WAY different from the standard nursery rhymes of rappers like 50 or whoever. Common and Talib Kweli ar estartign to get rotation on the radio and play on MTV. Sure, this isn't much yet, but this is a sign of change in the lurks without a doubt.

Let's hope so.

Like choco said, rap was hit the hardest because of how popular it is. All music has really fallen in sales and it's because of the easy availability. Rappers/most any genre artist should really stop giving a [cabbage] about how good their record sales do because their money is mostly made through live shows.

No, this is specifically rap sales falling, not music in general. Duh, everyone knows that music sales are on the decline due to pirating, but of the music still being bought, rap is going down by staggering amounts.

no [cabbage] sherloc didn't we just type that? Honestly this is a hate thread really with the attitude not to mention I'm seeing a lack of discussion in the topic itself.

So? Nobody ever turned it into a discussion of music sales in general, me and i123i were just stating somethign relevant to the discussion. You're basically just repeating what we're saying while trying to subliminally turn this into yet ANOTHER rap hate-thread.

Fingers crossed for reggae.

Lol who am I kidding.

I've never been into rap. To me, it just sounds like the same stuff over and over. I genuinely can't tell one song from the next. Add to that the apparent lack of originality... by that I mean, the only memorable rap songs are the ones that rip someone else's song.

I'm not surprised that people are finally tiring of it.

right....repetetive?

Stan? Guilty Conscience? Surviving the Times?

3 songs that are on my on the go playlist and I'm sure there's waaaaaaaay more. Mainstream is down the [cabbage] really cept for a few songs I pick up but I can tell you people aren't tiring of it.

I would guess the indie equivalent of rap is probably still going strong. Its just the mainstream acts that have taken such a bit hit. And that's all down to the immense lack of talent at the top the last few years.

1. (insert comment, that could be classified insulting about rap)

2. (insert the defensive about mainstream rap)

3. (insert insult 2 about ALL rap)

4. (insert very very long winded defensive about rap)

Apart from all the heavy metal topics, I guess this is what MMT forum is about. Can we not accept that different people like different genres of flipping music. Yes, whatever, you don't like one genre, it sounds the same as all the rest, that is why it fits into the SAME GENRE. My favourite genre is reggae/dancehall/soca, anyone wanna take a few shots about how it all sounds the same? Or how it is on a downfall with it's frequent homophobic nature? Blah blah blah. Who flipping cares.

Wow. I knew it was going down. Finally!

Okay, then you've obviously never given hip-hop outside the mainstream a chance. There are rap songs about a WIDE array of topics, everything from racism, genderism, global warming, politics, love, history, education, and the cruelty of certain aspects of life, so on and so on.

There is NO lack of originality. I'd like you to look at Nas, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Outkast and tell me how all them or the same/unoriginal.

And EVERY rap song samples another famous song. That's one of raps many edges, it brings a feelign of renovation with nostalgia to it's music.

I swear, the hate towards rap on this site is so ignorant and one-sided it's insane. SOme people just have the msot elitist attitude towards their preference of music it's sickening. Seriously. Mainstream hip-hop is garbage, save for a very few. We know. Nobody's going to argue that. If you would look past the mainstream you would find such an amazing culture. Your loss.

Move over Hip Hop, here comes some more sucky emo/pop rock bands.

-.- Give it up choco. I don't care anymore.

Music doesn't need to be saved. And let's pray that we don't get another group like those freaking softies.

Maybe people finally realized that most rap nowadays is straight up garbage. Except for a few, and I'm not exaggerating when I say a few, are still good.

Rap isn't like what it used to be.

...I didn't criticise it. And dude, I have my opinion, therefore I express it. All I said was 'yay. 'bout time' and you ramble on. Just ignore my posts if you don't want to deal with it. And plus, I have no problem on urban/rap/whatever, just some of the things it can do to kids my age.

I dont need a siggy no moar.
