Inactive Runescape Accounts

I think that Jagex should clean out some of the really old runescape accounts, or at the least remove them from the hi-scores tables.

The whole point of the hi-scores is to judge how good your character is compared to other players in the game, and if there are all these accounts that aren't used to play anymore, it's not a very good indicator of how good a player is.

For example, someone who is 10,000th in woodcutting, might actually be 5,000th or higher.

The longer this goes on, the less accurate the hi-scores are going to get, as more and more players make great characters, before quitting Runescape altogether. What do you think? Thanks,

I totally agree with that, but a bigger issue is a lack of original names. Everything is taken; you have to resort to like John17689623479 or Mike98areg74, it's getting really annoying :x

Yes this is a good point I forgot to mention for clearing out the accounts altogether. How tired are you of typing in a name for your newly created character to find out that it has already been taken, then looking up on the hi-scores to find that it isn't even in the hi-scores (obviously the owner got bored and left the game).

I disagree, just because you don't play anymore doesn't mean you don't have right to the lvls you earned when you did play.

I do agree that accounts that are whipped should actualy be allowed to be retaken, instead of keeping there password.

But if you quit, you wouldn't really care about your account. Nobody else cares. Jagex certainly doesn't care as it's just taking up space on their servers. So if nobody cares, why keep it?

dosent the server automatically purge your account if its not logged onto in a month

I thought that was the case. But look at tks. She's still in the hi-scores and (unless she logs in now and again for some strange reason) she shouldn't be on those hi-scores at all. I'm sure this is the case for thousands of other inactive accounts.

Ah that explains it. But I don't exactly see the point in that. I mean if a player has left the game, what are they going to care if their bank is wiped? It doesn't address the issue of the fictional hi-scores.

If in rsc you don't log into an account for 6 month, youre bank and stats get whipped.

In Rs2 youre bank and stats get whipped if you haven't been played online for 24 hours total and haven't logged in in the last 6 (or 7) month.

The problem is if the bank and stats get whipped the password still remains, and because of that those accounts can't be used by newer players.

I think the names should be on the hiscore..

its cool to see how have been playing this game and how good they were

and if they delet lots of old people you could not really see what rank you really are at, cos then it could be lots of people that played a long time ago that was better then you and you would not know..

sitting at ur computer thinking ur better then u really are..

we cant forget the old legends.. :P

But there's a problem with all those that make up accounts and take up names and don't even bother to log in once...

Yes Yes Yes. I totally agree I mean for instance I would rather have Janam not Janam_696. Its BS or like, when some one for example Inu_Yasha. Look that name up see nothing? Or for another example lets use fir3g0d's name. You see all his stats. Look up firegod see nothing you see something for fire_god. But I am going to ask Jagex if they can change my name because I think I created janam. But he doesnt show in the highscores. So i cant hurt.

They definitely need to free up the names of unused accounts. I currently know the passwords to three accounts, and I've created at least 4 or 5 other accounts in the distant past, taking up pretty decent names, forgetting the passwords (and most names), and preventing their use by others. It's unused, untrained accounts like these that should be deleted so new people can make them.

Edit: I just thought of something. If I knew what the default recovery questions for RSC were, there's a one percent chance I could get one of those lost 4 or 5 back. Anybody know for sure?

 How true is that? do u have proof that ur bank and stats get whipped if u fail to log in 6 to 7 mths?

Some people that play runescape maybe in the Military, and what if they got called out to go over seas. (Ex. You are a US Marine, and get called to go to Iraq for a year). Should your accounted be terminated because you were on duty? Or even if you just quit because of school, or part time job.. Think that is fair to them? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. People have paid Jagex money to keep there servers running, and they decide to quit, they dont deserve to get deleted. Your runescape Information is probabley 1 KB of space in there SQL, or Oracle DB (Dont know what they use).. IT TAKEs up very little space..

1000 KB - 1mb

10000 KB - 10 MB

100,000 KB - 100 MB

1,000,000 KB - 1 GB

Lets say there are 3 Million registered Accounts taking up 1 KB Space..

3,000,000 Divided by 1,000,000... = 3.. 3 GB Space is all we probabley take up... Now wow? Jagex cant afford a 40 GB hardrive for $40 USD?? I think not.. This is why they dont do it

And for what do they use these accounts?

Low lvls who r often used as a scout to look if the coast is clear by RR.

This ruins the fun of pk'ing and no bs about a miner who wants rune ore on the best way, the wildy is supposed to be a dangerous spot.

You can delete them for me :P

Yes but then some poser would snap up the old names for scamming and pretend to be the real tks, phillip, l6vi, etc.

Hmmm I think their combat level might give them away...

Lets say there are 3 Million registered Accounts taking up 1 KB Space

Ok, and you got that information from where? How do you know each account takes up 1KB? Please don't just make up figures to substantiate a point. Also, the amount of RS players who get called up to the army and don't have access to a PC for 6 months to a year are VERY few. Lastly, don't patronise me, and the majority of these forums by telling us that 1,000KB = 1MB. For a start, it DOESN'T! It's actually 1024KB = 1MB!

Thanks,
