~~ Updates Possibly Results of Player Suggestions ~~

Bank Pin (and Bank Pin for MTK and POH)

Skill Capes

Dark Bow (not sure on this, though attaching high drop to dark beasts was asked countless times)

Construction and Farming (offshoots of Player Owned Houses suggestions that proliferated Suggestions forum)

God Wars Dungeor (eeh, see below)

Stun from thieving (used to enter combat prior)

Mime mask/Beret combo (didn't even know they changed that)

RFD Glove Names (claimed below)

Runecrafting (was only drops in RSC)

Wieldable Pickaxe

Tele-other (claimed below)

Technically, any guarenteed content poll means players picked it.

Achievement Diaries (I think this was player initiated idea)

I did post this earlier somewhat humorously under the heading about a suggestion from 2006 (got moved to suggestions, naturally). So here's a redo. Anyway, in the RSOF, Mod Craddock has been maintaining stickied topics pertaining to suggestions of certain sorts. He forwards what he considers good suggestions to content development. Anyway, here's a couple of my suggestions that I think were used for game content. Now, these were posted in the High Level Content Sticky that was made around September 2006. That thread was discontinued earlier this year, but prior to that I saved all my suggestions that were posted to that thread.

The first looks like it may have helped inspire the God Wars Dungeon

Level 80 combat armor (ie you need 80 defense to wear) has been touched upon. I'll provide my idea for Level 90 Armor and weapons.

~~Mahjarrat Final Battles~~

Thesis: The awakening of the Mahjarrat boils to a head. Their combat scars the face of Gilinear again creating new areas of the wilderness that even Zamarak itself may fear to tread. Follow blackened lands to hinder the Mahjarrat and their army of followers. Defeat of the Mahjarrat leads to claiming their armor, weapons and items as your own. Being immortal, it may take hundreds of defeats to claim all the items for yourself and finally introducing the Mahjarrat to that concept known as the true death.

Land: North of the Wilderness proper is the new battlescarred landscape. Each area has an army of followers one must battle/sneak past to approach the Mahjarrat General. This area lacks any combat restrictions on battle of other players.

Army: Mixture of NPC mages, rangers and fighters of all religious and racial blends (think the second to final chamber leading to the Dagganoth Kings), however there's commonality amoung the specific army of each Mahjarrat. Some armies are pitched in battles with each other while other parts hold defensive position against more powerful enemies (the players, heh heh).

Mahjarrat Generals: Five or more (Jagex has the mythology set up) each with hisser own army. Though not powerful in the KQ sense of the word, with ability to attack with magic, melee and/or range proves a difficult challenge. In addition, heshe is protected by hisser faithful lieutenants. Taking down an Mahjarrat General will be a team effort in the dangerous multi-combat, no level wilderness.

Drops: Level 90 armor and weapons of that particular Mahjarrat.

continued:

Armor/Weapon Restrictions: Although Mahjarrat armor may be traded, you must defeat a Mahjarrat personnally (or have delivered the most damage) a number of times to rate to wear hisser armor/weapons/items. 2 defeats for helm, 5 defeats to wear helm/legs, 10 defeats to wear helm/legs/plate, 13 defeats to wear full armor and wield the weapon, etc.

Armor that provide prayer bonuses have a minimum prayer level to wield/wear. I personally thought Verac's should have had a 70 prayer to wear, that's why I'm suggesting this.

Benefits of Full Mahjarrat: Defeat of Mahjarrat enough times to wield its full armor, in addition to wearing its full armor offers a unique benefit: You can replace the Mahjarrat as the general of the army. So long as you're the only Player with the prerequisites and full Mahjarrat, the NPC Mahjarrat does not attack you and you can interact with its liuetenants to attack specific other armies. In addition, the liuetenants protect you while in the General's area against attack by other players (unless another player also has Full Mahjarrat). Two fold benefit of being King of the Hill, and assisting your team in their defeat of another Mahjorrat. This may be too complicated to implement fully.

Full Mahjarrat also gives special attacks, dependant upon Jagex's interpretation of what Mahjarrat does what.

*********************************************

Well, obviously I said inspired (typos and lack of ingame mythology knowledge abound). The GWD doesn't take place in the wild, does not involve any armor drops or King of the Hill type mini-game. In addition, I posted it after Enrahka's Lament, which mentioned battles in the wilderness so it's likely all that GWD was on the table prior to this suggestion.

The next deals with the axe you make in quest to chop down the tree by draynor manor.

~~The Dark Tree~~

Level 80, to keep it seperate from magic trees only those with 80 slayer know how to attack the tree to get the logs (the dark-axe has a 80 slayer, 81 woodcutting pre-req to use, 80 attack to wield).

Found only in the swamps of Morytania.

Yeah, yeah, I'm trying my combo-skill idea more and more. I'm adding to the idea posited by Hellsing by the way.

***********************************

The silver bladed axe came out soon afterwards. I'm not sure if it was coincidence, or somebody liked the idea of using slayer skill on a tree. Mod Craddock commented on liking that idea.

Anyway, seeing that the suggestion stickies have been up for nearing a year, has anyone noticed that more and more player suggestions are being utilized. More importantly, since it is in a sticky, can you offer up the proof. Obviously, something lost to page 50 makes for difficult proof.

By the way, Skill Capes were a direct result of a player suggestion.

I can't prove it (at least I don't think I can), but the dark bow came directly from a rant on how dark beasts were to easy, the number assigned was to low, and there was no real reward for killing them. One of his suggestions was to have them drop a "dark bow" (yes, thats what he called it) and it would give high level slayers an incentive to kill dark beasts and ranges a good weapon. I'll look to see if the thread is still there.

The dark bow for one

And 99 capes for another

I don't have the proof, but I remember the threads before the updates, the 99 capes got alot of yes and nos saying it was stupid and no one would have the capes.

sgsagssighe6.jpg

the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming.

There was a thread on needing a bank pin at MTK...

Yes, you are right. Mod Ash talked specifically about that. Unfortunately, it was in a Recent Event thread so it's gone now.

Yeah it woud of seemed stupid because main goals back then were only 80ish skills and items such a d chain or Santa. But once the capes came 99s seem eaiser in a way.

Player-owned houses, the Godwars Dungeon, the farming skill, the upcoming summoning skill and mock items based on updates people always wanted (Diango's toy shop) were all player-suggested to a point as far as I can tell.

The evil penguins is probably a hit towards Linux since Runescape had/has trouble running on that system. :P

My memory's a bit fuzzy, but I am pretty certain the "stun" reaction during pickpocketing came as a result of a suggestion from a player - I seem to remember when RS2 started, one of the changes made was that if you got caught picking a pocket, the NPC would attack you; you'd either kill it and have to find a replacement to keep thieving or you'd have to run away and come back. Anyone else remember that?

Actually before that, when you failed to steal from an NPC you went in combat with it and knowing the 3-turn rule it killed some of the NPCs before you could even escape.

It's good to see a post from you, Nuke.

Yeah, Jagex has definitely been using more and more player suggestions lately. :-k

Hellbellz, thanks. As for Jagex using more suggestions recently, I'm actually wondering if those Stickies in the RSOF Suggestion Forum for various suggestions are being used (they probably are, but can we find the ones that were).

I look at it like this: If Jagex used an idea of mine from Oct of last year to make an large update that took till Sept of this year, we're bound to start seeing more suggestions rolling off the assembly line. There are stickies for quests, weapons, skills, and others with a Jagex mod directly interacting with opinion and comments on many of the suggestions offered. So I think there's suggestions somewhere in those 2000 pages that have seen the light of day in the last year. So lets find them, post them and give the originator the credit he can be due.

I can confirm that bank PINs were purely player suggestion. I visited the popular thread many times in the past before the update was actually put into the game. In my opinion, the bank PIN remains one of the best updates in history. :)

I'd just like to comment on this also; I see so many players nowdays acuse jagex of not listening to player-made suggestions, when really a large portion of updates come strait from player's heads(maybe with a few tweaks ;) ).

Interesting topic. :)

The 99 capes and bank pin for MTK and houses i both know about, but i never heard the player idea for the dark bow directly.

One other could be the suggestion for different PC boats for different leveled players, like 40+ 70+ and 100+. That i believe was suggested by players, and i think Jagex even said higher players suggested it to happen.

I remember reading a post on the rsof long long ago about a player ranting about dark beast. He wrote a little story:

I got a 21 dark beast assignment. I killed them all and got a death talisman, which i managed to find a buyer for after 3 hours, for only 70k

It should be:

I got a 21 dark beast assignment. I only managed to kill 7 because they have so high defense and strong attacks. I got a dark bow on 7th kill. I picked it up and almost got k0ed by another dark beast.

I managed to sell it for 7.2m on the forums

Guess where they got the name from? :D

EDIT: I wasn't the first lol

try every single garanteed poll?!

Alot of updates come from player suggestion, mainly because Jagex staff has a limited fantasy, while 100x as many players have a lot more fantasy ;) Just have to keep in mind that the devoloping takes a while. So if 1 asks for something and it comes out the next day, it wasn't because of the person had that idea. It had been in development all a long

Personally I am very happy with the way Jagex has been doing updates recently. They listened to all the complaining from about 9 months ago, being low-level poor small updates.

I'd say, instead of protesting, lets hold a ''gathering on how great Jagex is doing!'' (I think people at Jagex wouldn't mind it )

Teleother was a suggestion I made by pming them, not posting on the Forums. They said it'd be difficult to do and players could randomly teleport other players, yet 4-5 months later, they come out with it. I even told my idea to friends, but I got the same response as I did from Jagex.

Hey, thanks for pointing out other updates. There's one I think I can claim, but do not have proof:

When Jagex altered the Rune stores from 5k max stock down to 250 and increased the refresh, I still had an active 50 page rant going complaining how Jagex was creating instant millionaires every update because it would put 5k runes of Blood, Deaths, Nats, etc at LOW store prices which players would turn around and resell.

Anyone remember the Update game where people rushed the mage guild prior to shut down?

Irrelevant now after infinate stocks have been introduced.
