Runescape future #1 game?

Recommended Posts

Recently i was reading the newspaper (the daily news i believe) and i happened to see the top 5 computer games of 2007. The same old world of warcraft at #1, some halo game at #2 and then all of a sudden i was shocked....Runescape was at #3 (at this point who cares about #4 and #5)?

I couldn't believe this because recently so many people seem to be ranting about runescape all year but then all of a sudden number 3? That insane, and then I look at the game to be a potential #1 in the next comming year. Its highly possible. So many people seem to be quiting but does it matter? Newer players fill their shoes daily and with newer updates like summoning comming out many people are even comming back.

Runescape just seems like it can beat World of Warcraft, if not 2008 then maybe 2009.

Unfortunately no, RuneScape simply can't appeal to a large enough market to sustain position 1, a new game will have to be the World of Warcraft killer. From the time played stats I have access to it looks like WoW is 1st, GW is 2nd and Hellgate: London, Silkroad, Maplestory and FlyFF are 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. May I ask where they got those stats and what they are based on. (Number of players, time played, active user base?)

well there are still ways Runescape is trying to fix the game like by adding bounty hunter to replace pking, a plan to increase the trading cap to 30k and newer updates by the months to keep players hooked on the game. As for how they get those statistics, i guess its based on players consistantly playing and by total members of the game.

Bounty Hunter DOES NOT replace PKing. Not at all. No. Neither will single-player PvP, since the fighting is not in the Wilderness and you cannot go after the people that you want to go after (in my case, people who attack runite miners or just other PKers). Not only that, but the Wilderness is now not dangerous at all to someone with protection prayers and a little bit of food.

A 30k trading cap is only IF you have done EVERY quest.

And sorry, summoning won't be enough to make me subscribe. It's not going to stop me from quitting by the end of January, either, if things don't improve.

I don't think it was every quest for the 30k gap but most quests because they want you to be prevented from RWT and this should be fair because most gold farmers will just make a new account to make real life cash with this. So by placing quests in the picture it will be harder for them to make lots of cash and it will slow them down.

And they made Bounty hunter because they want a risk to be there when you try to kill someone incase they are trying to give you items when they die (In other words a way to prevent RWT). Not much to say but its there and if you don't like it don't use it.

Considering the number of players playing has not changed in a noticable amount, I'd have to advise you not to hold your breath on dead last, or anywhere near there.

Well its cool to see that runescape was third, but i highly dobut that it can or will beat WoW. And to compound on that, the updates that are coming up might drive people away from runescape to WoW. But who knows...i sure dont

But the important thing here isn't the current player's opinions who don't like the game and quit. The important thing is that new players seem to be filling their shoes. In fact, sometimes is that case that two new players fills an old player's shoes. RS is still growing rapidly.

I'm amazed that RS would be rated #3 though. I mean, yeah, it's better than MapleStory or Silkroad or FlyFF, but to be a contender for WoW which has frazzled the brains of so much of the MMORPG/MMOFPS gaming population? No, surely not... but could it? No... yes... no... :uhh:

I meen after 2-3 years there will be alot better game then WoW , everybody will start playing it , WoW will be forgoten ... the little games will be played forever ... examples CS , D2 , SC , WC , RS ... runescape will be on the top 10 forever , just the other 10 will change ...

So by placing quests in the picture it will be harder for them to make lots of cash and it will slow them down.

It also slows down people who want to donate good items to new people, stops contests and parties, and prevents people from making good money buying and selling items outside of the GE.

And they made Bounty hunter because they want a risk to be there when you try to kill someone incase they are trying to give you items when they die (In other words a way to prevent RWT). Not much to say but its there and if you don't like it don't use it.

You don't understand. The Wilderness's PvP element was removed and hence for all players with protection prayers and/or a brain its danger has virtually vanished. Risk has disappeared. A huge, dynamic, open arena has disappeared. Getting loot from one-on-one kills has disappeared. Fair PvP is gone, too. All this in the name of stopping Real-World Trading? Killing a trademark and arguably the most exciting part of the game? Let's face it- chopping magics and runecrafting just don't compare.

And if anyone bothered to apply a little thought here, they'd realize it was largely unnecessary to remove the PvP aspect of the Wilderness to stop the vast majority of goldfarmers. Many other measures could have been taken, and Jagex chose the worst.

Yay top 10 forever but how long.....Jagex has new game ideas and they are further more increasing pay for themselves but at the cost of creating competiton for themselves. Can't they wait until runescape hits #1 before creating new games?
im too lazy to find the quote but RS is going to be their prime game for AT LEAST 5 more years ... thats a lot of time

So i have heard but i dunno....their ideas of new games are leaking out so soon, can't be plain luck or chance....seems like they are waiting to see if runescape dies out or not. If runescape starts dying they will give a chance to fix it, if it fails then they will release their new games.

Runescape had its time. While the game will still grow in players, the rate of growth has decreased drastically. It has a market, but the market for the game is decreasing as people realize other games are just better. Undoubtedly it will be around awhile. I just don't see much room for growth.

"ideas of new games"

as far as i know there is only 1 new idea - mechscape

"The CV's of alleged current and former Jagex staff claim that Jagex has been working on a space MMORPG since at least April 2005"

2 years , 2 and a half ... as i said its a lot of time so ... it wont come soon ...

yea i heard about this but i also heard about another game which name wasn't given....still a little ironic if you ask me that this games ideas would be released around a major crisis in Runescape.

As far as I know, the Dec. 10 updates have made almost no impact on the number of players.

Who can be surprised that it's on the list? Almost every English-speaking minor living in the world has played the game (slight exaggeration).

But no, it will never be number one, because it simply isn't good enough.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Companies make multiple games, because more games=more money. They don't just do it to replace their current one.
