Eh, I can't cope with any black/deathcore/Satan-worshipping bands such as Mayhem, Anaal Nathrakh and Burzum etc. So I don't listen to it, since I like to hear what the hell they're singing about.

Don't take that the wrong way though, if you like it, that's totally super, I don't respect you any less for it. We all like different things. :)

With that said, I listen to: Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Edguy, Avantasia, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Dragonforce, Nocturnal Rites, Nightwish, Hammerfall, Led Zeppelin, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Lordi, Dream Theater etc.

I prefer the melodic and symphonic part of metal.

I wouldn't call myself a metalhead, I prefer bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Rush etc.

Metal bands I do like though are Metallica, Dream Theater, Pantera, Black Label Society and Symphony X.

Dreaming of that face again

It's bright, and blue, and shimmering

Grinning wide

And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes

Mayhem, isn't that the band where the guitarist shot himself and another band member ate parts of him? Also, i remember one of the members dug up a corpse, cut off the head and took it to a fancy dress party. Sorry, but i don't care what music they make, they're a bunch of wackjobs. I love my metal, but i can't be doing with all that crap.

Edit: looks like i remembered rightly:

It's one thing to wear corpse paint and adopt creepy stage names, but something else entirely when a Swede named Dead (real name Pehr Ohlin) turns out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. The singer proved true to his namesake early in the band's history with that most metal of deaths - a self-inflicted shotgun blast to the head. Guitarist, black metal icon, and shameless self-promoter Euronymous (real name Oystein Aarseth) rushed to take a picture of the aftermath, which appeared on Mayhem's following album in full-color, brain-splattered goodness. Not content to leave it at that, Euronymous made necklaces from the pieces of Dead's shattered skull and ate his brains.

Great stuff.

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.

A recent study shows that 92% of all teenagers have small purple pet elephants named Jack. Put this in your sig if you are one of the 8% who like to do the fandango on Wednesday afternoons

Well, Gorgoroth's singer is going to jail for beating up a guy, the guitarist is going to jail because he raped someone, and the old bassist is already there because he ate someone. And the old drummer commited a suicide in 1999

By the way, Varg Vikernes (session bassist for Mayhem album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas) killed Euronymous in 1993. Read more at http://www.burzum.org/eng/library/article52.shtml - Part 2 - Euronymous

And for not being totally offtopic: Metal rules. Death, black, thrash, power: anything goes. Except for sold-out bands (Metallica, Slipknot) or hardcore/metalcore/nu-metal (which isn't even metal by the way  )

I'm more into classic metal, Iron Maiden especially. Actually I'm a Maiden fan for life, and a collector.

I like some of the names on your list, but in general it's too heavy. Heavy isn't bad at all if there's good melodies but most of those don't include a lot of melody. In Flames is a brilliant example of very heavy, but yet still melodic and complex music.

Isn't Zep medal? If so, how can you forget them?

Zeppelin are classic rock.
