Hey, could anyone direct me to a good video/tutorial on brawl techniques?

I've considered myself a good player for a while now but I heard about all these techniques that i've never known about, like wavedashing or whatever, so I guess i'm more inexperienced than I thought.

Smashwiki and Smashboards are good places to start.

http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

http://www.smashboards.com/

Youtube is also a good place to see some techniques.

You can also always ask questions here, too.

As for wavedashing, it's a Melee technique that allowed certain characters to slide along the ground, without actually walking, running. You did it by jumping and air dodging while holding the control stick diagonally to the ground. Wavedashing allows you to perform ground attacks, grabs, and smashes, while being able to move. It's an important technique in high level play.

Brawl doesn't have wavedashing, unless you're Kent.

There are a few important things in Brawl you must learn at high or even middle level play. Some I can think of are: good MINDGAMES, autocancel, glide tossing, and most other techniques are character-only.

I wouldn't suggest Wiki... unless you're a big beginner, as it is easy to find stuff.

I regret to inform you my copy of Brawl is... missing. I think it's been stolen, but the net result is still the same, except someone else has made a good £20 out of it. Meh.

Anyways, I won't be on until it's found. Any TL players though, I'm happy to give advice.

Sorry to hear that ginger :c

I have a few general questions. I'm using the c-stick set to smash. Would it be better to just use the analog stick + A button to do a smash attack, or just stick with the c-stick?

I'm using falco right now, since metanight isn't exactly strong enough for my tastes and i'm not nearly experienced enough to even toy with snake. Would this be a good choice for a beginner?

Would it be better to use the Z button or use the shield + A instead? They do the same thing... I think :?

Z button comes down to personal preference. I can't really see any advantage from either set-up, except the obvious that Z is just one button.

MK is good for anyone, newbie or otherwise. Silly broken... thing *wants to swear*

I use the C-stick for smashes but I think if you want a more general consensus of good SSBB players then A + analog is better for smashes on the ground. Apparently it's better for spacing and timing. C-stick is better in the air though because it frees up the analog stick for DI.

Basically, I left SSBB in the Wii, I didn't play it for three days, no one else played the Wii, and I went back to play a friend online and the CD had gone, along with the case. I haven't taken out of the house or anything so... it's either here or it's stolen. My brother texts people like mad though so I've got my suspicions. <.<

C-stick smashes don't have that little charge time (Makes a... click type sound) and it's better to use when you need a quick smash. C-stick is also good for aerials since it's easier to DI.

And MK is much easier to use than Falco IMO.

My friends and I banned C-Stick, I have no problem with it. I'm fine with my good ol' analog stick + A. Especially with Dedede, so many things can go wrong with C-Stick.

Falco is pretty good, not a very complicated character to learn. Metaknight is easier though.

I don't understand why people even ban c-stick. I mean, if you don't like using it because it doesn't work for you, fine your decision. But to ban it because it's lame, cheap, or whatever scrub excuse people come up with is just stupid.

Why the hell would you ban c-stick? C-stick is a not even bannable... I mean really, the biggest benefit is the ease of certain tactics, such as motor sliding...

As for which to do, I prefer c-stick. As for timing and the like, hold Z and C-stick if you happen to need a quick change of pace.

Or you could b-stick. Seriously, banning c-stick is like banning a smash attack - it degenerates the game even more than Sakurai did.

Because we only have 3 Gamecube controllers? And if 3 people can C-stick, but one can't, that's a bit unfair...

Though these are the same people that banned ledgeguarding. I convinced them to repeal it though.

And good games. I didn't end that one, why would I...? I had 7 kills ( ), I was doing fine...I just had to go after that.

I got lucky with Kent, I Falcon Punch'ed you twice, [bleep]ed you with Dedede's recovery, landed a few smashes...Were you trying?

Too laggy to try. ;)

And about the Gamecube argument, the one with a Wii controller is destined to lose.

We give the GC controllers to the people that suck the most. You'd be surprised how many times the guy with Wiimote + Nunchuk wins.

I myself prefer to use the wiimote by itself....but with the nunchuck is fun too.... I just don't like using a normal controller anymore

At higher level play, it's a requirement to use a GC controller. The button layout, the design, ect makes it, in my opinion, the best controller ever.

That's because the person with the GC controller sucks.

True, and I forgot, I do have friends who suck enough that we allow them to use the C Stick, so they have a chance. (They can't do a smash with analog + A... #-o )

The Gamecube controller is a lot better, but I find myself using the Wiimote/Nunchuk a lot. If it's a serious battle (1v1 to see who's better usually), I'll go with GC though.

Just let everybody use C-stick. You're basically condemning your own skills by limiting your progress... It isn't cheap. It's not even an advantage, but it is something that higher level players should do, as it allows you to be flexible in sticky situatios. In lower level play, the advantage isn't the C-stick - it's the controller.
