Rare Items - A Hope

I don't think you will be able to lend any rare items, the points of item lending is to see if you like or no the items. And I don't think there will be a massive increase of player like you expect ;)

In my opinion people are always going to want party hats. Yeah, you are right, they are useless - but they are used as a symbol.

So are all the other items I mentioned.

That you are powerful, rich, and I cant find a better word for it but, smart. Smart enough to find a way to acquire one. Not to mention is also shows the possibility of your being an elder player, since the start.

Wether you put your money in a phat or in a skill cape or other rare items doesn't make a difference. Money is money, and it shows that you have money, pretty much. Somebody buying a phat is not any smarter that somebody that buy other items, heh pretty much the contrary. A phat shows one thing foremost of all - "I care what other people think about me" "Omg look at me, I have the ultimate status symbol!". As opposed to somebody with a godsword that bought it because it's a great sword foremost of all, and a status symbol as added bonus. Two different main motivations. You're certainly not buying the hat for its usefulness

Sure, people want all these new glamorous and shiny items, but like I said, the new wave of incoming players might fancy a paper hat.

And why exactly the "new player" demographic be so wildly different than the one of current players that they'd all suddenly want phats? Nothing. Phats are dead, live with it.

Partyhats aren't even close to dead in my honest opinion. Rares have always had their ups and downs, and at this moment, they are down, maybe for a long time, but not forever. Partyhats are still a great symbol of work, or how long you've played, and TONS of people still want them.

The thing that keeps them going at this moment is the people who still want them. Look at the grand exchange database, for the most expensive items sold daily. There is AT LEAST one of each color sold daily on that database.

In addition, ask alot of people who understand the partyhat market's state, but simply don't have money. TONS of people still want them, it's the problem of attaining the money for them. :wall:

Would be funny if they all of a sudden became insanely high demand (Would only happen if a group of insanely rich merchants bought them out though) I dont know, they can't stay like this forever..

the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming.

Yes you could wear a blue phat for a day, but for a day only. Everyone would know you're not really that rich.

The reason people didn't lend rares that much before was due to risk, but a lot of rich people with rares would like to give poorer players a chance to wear a rare. Isn't that what RS is about? Community, friendly high levels? I see a lot of complaining about high levels and merchants always..

Jagex is encouraging high players to be friendlier by adding a lending system. Seems like the right step to stop all the hate towards high levels?

Nicely put. I think we can all agree that they are at their low point, but it won't be like this forever.

If it was me i'd get rid of my rares. I mean I can get the same satisfaction from borrowing a rare from my friend, showing it off as people call me, "RICH N00b" then give it back a few hours later, as then id grind for hours trying to make enough money and wait long enough for someone to accept my offer, then get that same satisfaction, which will get pretty old the longer i own the rare. So thats my take.

godswords are a waste of money if you ask me..they will just keep lowering as more come into the game. partyhats are discontinued, nobodys buying them right now because moneys harder to obtain and who wants an item that everyones trying to sell. people buy rares because they are discontinued aand because of their looks. Christmas crackers are still the most expensive item and you can't even wear them and they just cost a lot because theres so little left.

They aren't exactly a total waste. They are fun to use for a few minutes.

i got a really good friend who gave me 20m towards my phat, we've been good friends for like 4 years, i cant wait for item lending so she can wear it

beyond her, i doubt it will leave my head for a good long while, heading off to college, and my play time will drop alot so i have no need for more money, and i've got the time for it rise ::'

2 things with that

1) i doubt your friends lend you it with that kinna attuide

2) i got a phat, and im not exactly poor, or have low stats, ppl with rares typically have a fat bank along with there rare

I see what you are saying... but... there is no problem. This is the way it should have been in the first place. Party hats were not supposed to be super rare valued-above-everything items. They were just fun items that were given away on the holidays.

And yes, people will realise there are other games with comparable graphics, that aren't a grindfest. And plenty of people will join because of the new graphcs. Both of those should turn out to be correct.

Item lending's gonna suck. It's stupid and pointless and only helps little noobs that can't afford anything worth more than 10k because they're too busy having gfs on runescape to understand how to make money.

More players = more noobs.

Bad logic Zox.

If someone is begging at you to borrow an item of yours and they dont get the hint, just add them to your ignore list. Problem solved.

People are getting very elitist about it and not wanting their egos crushed by ppl not beliving they bought a rare themselves. Its laughable. Get over it.

I don't see the problem here really.

Party hats skyrocketed from about 15-50m million about 3 years ago to absolutely ridiculous prices last year due to the huge influx of new players alching and gold farmers causing massive inflation and merchanters artificially inflating their prices. As money sinks were introduced and the bot problem was fixed prices stabilised. Newer items and skills were also introduced that cost a lot of money and aren't in huge supply yet/are being trained intensively by a lot of players.

The hats still cost a packet and a lot of people still want one. It's not like there are more in the game now, its just that Jagex now holds the reigns a bit more tightly and aren't going to allow the prices to rocket again. Who cares if the hat you wear costs 100 million or 500 million?

I agree with you pootan, even though I own two rares (not party hats) myself. The rise in price of these rares before were unfair in the first place, and the price they're currently going at is more fair.

I don't see party hats giving you an ego boost, I've never considered them good looking or cool. New players probably don't judge after the price and it's highly possible that they don't know how much they're worth. There are many other cheaper wearables that will impress these new players more in my opinion, such as the Dragonfire Shield, different weapons and so on...

You don't sound very smart talking like that. :shame:

Imo the only downside to it is that it will create a new wave of beggars, but it's nothing the ignore list can't fix.
