fgfuyfyuiuy0
Hey guys :D Well, some of you may remember my insomnia post a while back. Well, it hasn't improved... at all. I kind of went on a two day streak of no sleep and now I am back to about an hour of rest a night. Okay, so I made a meeting to go see a doctor. Woohoo! Well, my father and stepmom are out of town. My stepmom comes back Monday and my dad comes back Friday. Well, my father called my sister today to tell her his new proposal! My sister, obviously, told me because we watch out for each other sometimes. Well, let's say I found it absolutely hilarious! My father plans to take away... t.v. privileges, my computer, my xbox 360, and anything technology related that I would thoroughly enjoy. He is going to make my free time spent reading and working out so that I don't have any technology interferences which may cause my inability to sleep. Ha! Ever since I was introduced to a computer (Back in like '98), I want to do something affiliated with computers. 5 years ago I realized I wanted to design video games. I already started my degree in Computer Science, so technology is a big part of my life. Plus, I spend my time on computers or games because I choose to. Now, why would these things cause me to not sleep if I've had them in my life for 10 years now? It doesn't make sense. I don't really have a plan, so I would like some input from you guys. My dad has no idea I know and he is not reasonable. He plans to remove them until I am 18, so about a year. My only plan so far is to move to my mom's house. That's an option right now. Otherwise, I am going to be punished. It seems like a vast punishment and I didn't do anything to deserve it. I was also planning on progressively calling my stepmom and telling her I slept more and more until my dad comes home. The day he comes home I will be getting "Full nights of rest". Any help? :? baalboy5
You need to explian insomia more to your Dad and show him what causes it and how taking your stuff away isn't reasonble to do. Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob. People in OT eat glass when they are bored. Lionheart_0
Sorry, I am not fully aware that your insomnia was not brought up already, but I just have a question: Have you tried going a few days without technology? That's good too. Maybe some stressful stuff is causing me to stay awake? Sorry, I am not fully aware that your insomnia was not brought up already, but I just have a question: Have you tried going a few days without technology? I am just wondering. I went on a 3 month trip to Costa Rica and stayed in a casita. I've been away from technology. The point is that I am being punished. EDIT: My Insomnia post. I <3 Gears of War 2. Lionheart_0
Ah ok, I understood that it was gonna be a 'punishment' (Which is stupid), but I was just wondering if the technology brought on insomnia somewhat. In any case, when your father does bring up his plan, I would just tell him about your love for technology and that by taking you away from computers (which is a reasonable excuse, not the TV or gaming system) that you are being potentially hurt. I would also show him that you are perhaps researching and testing your skills with the computer, so its a tool that you need. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! klankaos
Wikipedia - Insomnia Linked to the Causes section of Wikipedia's insomnia article. Note that in there, the only one that could POSSIBLY be related to computers/technology is an overactive mind. Propose to your father that you have to get off the computer an hour or so before you go to sleep, to let your mind cool down a little, and make sure he knows that using a computer is not a source of mental agitation for you. Failing that, parents are most unreasonable. I had this same problem, though not as severely as you, a few years back - my parents also decided to take away computer priviliges, although they only restricted them to daylight hours. It didn't work. I eventually just dealt with a few issues I had going on (not serious, but I just wasn't used to stress) and I was okay. Make sure he realizes that removal of technology is not going to solve anything and will actually make you MORE agitated, causing even MORE insomnia. Vicious spiral. Being immature is a part of being mature.

Shazarabbit
I'll admit your father may be sounding outrageous. But i understand where he is coming from. Try to limit the amount of computer time. Get off the computer, don't watch tv 2 hours before going to bed. It's been proven that these sorts of things overstimulate the brain and make it harder to sleep. Will H
Have you told your doctor about your father's plan? I think some professional advice on whether this is a good idea or not would help vastly and might influence your father more if it is a bad idea, and if it's a good idea, then maybe you should try it for a a few weeks? ~ W ~

Tom_Servo
Why are you being punished for a sleeping disorder? That's completely irrational. Anyway talking to your doctor is a good idea. And you might get away with pretending to be getting sleep, but you will probably be caught eventually and given your father's ridiculous response to your insomnia, the result probably won't be good. If I were you I would move in with your mom, if you like it there. You don't deserve to be punished for something that you cannot control.
fgfuyfyuiuy0
Well, I think my dad is a ventriloquist doll right now. My stepmom and I don't get along... well, I hate her guts and she is a manipulative, gold digging... you know what. I dislike her and she just spends money left and right. She goes shopping all the time and it's my dad's money. She doesn't even work! She goes to work, but she doesn't earn income. She's the Vice President at my Dad's company. She is pretty dumb and my dad is an intelligent man. She went with him to go bug him while he's taking a class at Harvard. She hates that I am always on the computer. I do other things on the computer besides playing games. I write stories, I draw pictures (Look!): I made that for someone on my free time! I love to draw. I learned Java and took 2 A+ classes, a graphic designing class, and a intro to programming class. I am trying to major in Computer Science. She hates it and doesn't understand why I'd waste my time on a "piece of metal". Her own words! She told my dad this and I overheard them one night. I was thinking she is telling my dad to do this. It sounds so ridiculous and if it is my dads own thought, then it will be the dumbest thing I have ever heard him say. I am thinking of my mom's house... I <3 Gears of War 2. limpbizkit
CUT the technology out. Get out and about. Go bed tired or not at about midnight and take a book. Yes it does work. I had insomnia for nearly a year. Tif 360 MGC Leaderboard
Gehackte
Maybe it's your hate for her that you can't sleep? And it's a good idea to go to your mom's house i think. It's a little break how i hear you talking about your stephmom i don't think you should stay a day longer with her. How does 20 minutes turn into 2.5 hours? Was your math perhaps magical math? I had insomnia for nearly a year. Apparently you didn't read any of my posts. Technology is not the problem. I am not playing on the computer for 16 hours and then switch to t.v. for the other 8. I spend some time on the computer doing classes and drawing pictures for companies. I hang out with friends a lot. I go to work. I go to bed at 12 or 1 and I lay in bed until 5 or 6am. So, obviously it doesn't work for everyone. Just now I got out of bed and I went to bed at 12. I lied there awake all night and half the time nothing was going through my head. The rest of the time I was thinking about "Hancock". So... any better ideas? Maybe it's your hate for her that you can't sleep? And it's a good idea to go to your mom's house i think. It's a little break how i hear you talking about your stephmom i don't think you should stay a day longer with her. I've been dealing with her for 4 years now : I think what's going on is my new found social status. I was introverted up until this year. I hung out with one person... one person and it lead to 20+ people. All of them are calling me the funniest guy they've ever met. I also got close to a girl out of it, but I got rid of her after I heard her stories. She texts me all the time... So, I think I might be stressed out because I am not used to having a lot of friends. I had 2 friends pretty much my whole life. I didn't like having friends. Also, I am hanging out with people most nights and I get calls every night to hang out... Plus, I've been dealing with step parents forever. Had two very bad ones... bad. I got used to 'em. Furah
hmmm, try being nice to your stepmum for a WHOLE day, she may like you more for it, and also in a discreet way show her why you love computers (in a way that she would probably like) and if that fails go to your mums house, it will make more then just you happy :) Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. I don't treat her like garbage or talk back to her. I treat her like a parent. I just don't like her and I don't tell her to her face. I've overheard her talking to my dad and she does the same thing when I am not around. She almost convinced my dad to have me kicked out of his house when I talked back to him once. I got out of it, but it was very close. My mom was on the phone with my dad. I <3 Gears of War 2. Powman3
Limp, you still obviously don't get it. It seems really unfair that your dad is punishing you because of a problem with sleep. I'm just going to say what most people have already said, talk to your dad about insomnia, show him the article on Wikipedia, and get an encyclopedia and show him that (if they have it in there, of course). I know it's not much, but I'm really not that experienced with this kind of stuff.
