My father's proposal.

Seems like I'm the absolute opposite from you in some ways  , I have a very low stress level even before a major test and love hanging out with people and haven't undergone the family difficulties that you seem to have. However, I often get difficulty sleeping or just being restless. Know what my secret is? Physical activities. Treadmill, martial arts, running, bicycle. I try and do something every day.

Simply put: get off the damn computer and go do some physical exercise. Although I admit that taking away all technology privileges is totally taking it too far and isn't going to solve anything, I still think it's in your best interest not to spend so much time in front of a screen.

Well, that is by far, the stupidest proposal i have ever heard in my life. Ever.

If your doing stuff with computer's for your degrees, wtf is the point in taking them away.

The only things you can do is see your doctor, but you clearly have full blown insomnia, and like you said, you should go stay with someone who won't remove all your xbox 360's and pc's.

Only thing I can realy think of to get you out of this other than moving in with your mom or punching him in the nuts like dusty said  is to pretend that you're getting more sleep than you actually are and see if that affects his decision.

The best solution would seem to be moving in with your mom though, unless you can manage to reason with your dad first.

actually, I find that technology is the cause of about 9 out of 10 of my sleepless nights. Back when I used to play Runescape whenever I got the chance, I found that if I played before bed it would take me an extra hour or so than usual to fall asleep. My mind is still running with thoughts of what I was playing. So as an experiment I stopped playing rs before bed and instead watched some good old reality shows and read a book before bed and found I slept a lot easier. however, if I watched action movies then my mind would start unintentionally filling with actiony thoughts I couldn't control and I lost sleep.

I think your father has the right idea, but his restrictions are too extreme. Maybe a rule "no computers or videogames before bed" would be a lot better for you than depriving you of everything you enjoy.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

Well, can't you take some meds for it?

Its easy to say that but after research/talking to doctors its one of the worst things you can do for insomnia.

Best way is go up stairs with a book and lay in bed reading.

You sound like me (just you cant sleep.) Since I also want to design video games I choose to spend a lot of time on the computer/playing games. I have had no problems. I grew up with a computer in my house and got my very first computer for my 7th birthday.

Try telling your parents what you do want to do and explained the relevance of technology on that field. (that worked with my dad.)

or plan b: Get them hooked on video games so you have something to hold against them if they take away your games \' . (that worked on my mom.)

Or plan C: Show them this thread and tell your dad "back the F*** off"

P.S. Plan C is a joke, you might wind up in a hospital doing that

I remember the other post. It sounded then like you were near a burn-out. It doesn't seem likely it's "the technology" at all, just too many things happened to you over the last few months.

Go to the doctor, explain about your insomnia and that a lot of stuff is going on. If possible, and if you can talk openly when your father is there, take him with you. If not, sit down with your father and talk to him about the doctor's visit afterwards.

Still, there is one smart thing about your father's plan. It would force you to take a break and spend your time differently. And that's about the only method to get over a 'burn-out'. Take it from someone who knows... I had to quit from work for 8 weeks after driving my body and mind to the limit, too stubborn and proud to admit I was burning up.

What I did: I got out of the house, changed my surroundings, traveled, dumped the computer for a while, stayed away from people I didn't feel like seeing (pretty much everybody), took a break to deal with everything at my own pace. Do whatever feels right, but try not to fall into the daily rhythm you maintain now (as it's part of your insomnia problem). It might be a good idea to go to your mom's, because you'd get that change of surroundings. Or take a holiday, I don't know your age, but just go discover things. Take your time to deal with whatever it is that causes that insomnia.

Just be like "yo dude but my comp is dope I need dat [cabbage]!!!!" and if that doesn't work, try to work out a compromise. But yea, if I'm on the comp right before I go to bed, I have a horrible time sleeping.

I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Comped 4/30/15

Yeah, that sounds like my parents. I had problems sleeping, just slight ones, and my mom immediately went into anti-technology overdrive. -.-

Yeah; my Xbox is apparently the root of all evil and causes everything to go wrong according to parents.

Anyway on the imsomnia thing.

I guess a 7 day trial of the no technology could be helpful, if the doctor thinks it could be a cause; and it would put your dads mind at rest.

When it turns out that this hasn't changed your sleep patterns it will be obvious that it is not the cause and will return to normal.

And whoever said that cutting technology worked for their bad sleeping problems. Insomina does not just have a magic cure; each case may need a different treatment. Cutting tech may work for you but not for anybody else.

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

Just shouting this out but an easy fix to your stepmom problem could be to make her something from the computer. I don't know but perhaps drawing her, or your dad and her together in some sort of picture or graphic then printing it out or whatever and then giving it to her as a gift would probably soften her up on the computer.

Or just make a gift for her from the computer, anything would work to be honest. You said you took a few Java classes or whatever? What does she like to do that you could do in Java?

Just a thought, but you'd need to be creative for these.
