"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

I need some help. A few weeks ago, my parents caught me talking inappropriately on the phone with my girlfriend and threatened to take away my phone because of it. Now, they checked my text messages this week and are now taking texting off of my phone. My parents think we are moving way too fast (it's been 1 month) and it is freaking them out. They think I am having sex with her and am going to get her pregnant (which I haven't). They already don't like the girl and I'm afraid they will tell me to break up with her. What can I do to prevent a breakup from happening and get them to lighten up?

  • Obviously you ask her to come with you. Drive with her to the steepest mountain. Put her in the backpack and spend a week climbing the mountain. You will drink the rain and you will eat like a bear. B

YOU GOT CAUGHT HAVING PHONE SEX LMFAO@!#!

Lay off on talking to your girlfriend on the phone for a week or so, and if you do, talk to her on the phone when they're asleep, or not around, but they could still call while you're not around, so don't stay on for too long if you do, unless you have call waiting.

They can't actually MAKE you break up with her, my suggestion is to just lay off on talking to her on the phone so much, try to go see her if you can. To be honest it's none of your parents business, and you could try explaining that to them, or just try to get them to trust you. You shoulda deleted any vulgar texts you had.

So advice is welcome, but right now I've made up my mind. I'm going to try and date Mary. Again, there's just the nagging little corner of my mind worrying about Kate. Telling you this is one of those it-feels-better-to-let-it-out kind of things.

I say go for it, Kate told you she didn't want to do date and she can't seriously be expecting you not to date anyone else.

You can have texting removed from your phones in America? Don't you have pre-paid there?

I think he's a year older than me, so that makes him a late bloomer here.

On the note of actual advice ... What your parents don't know won't hurt them. Although you should probably stop talking to her on your phone, to be honest - they hold the bill. Talk inappropriately to her in person. Girls are much more awkward themselves if you have the same confidence face-to-face as you do on the phone.

And Mage, most people don't use pre-paid.

Well, a few weeks back some of you guys may remember me asking about a girl who I guessed liked me, turns out, she did.

I asked her out two weeks ago, and everythings been cool. However, im running into a few "complications" to put it.

First things first, my best friend who goes to my school, and the only person I felt I could trust, has been acting VERY odd. I actually did like this girl very much before guessing she liked me too, and he was the only one I could trust so much to tell him. . I told him pretty much everything, and he supported me thru-out everything, and he was happy for me when I asked her out and she said yes. However now I spend less time with him (but still quite a bit), and more time with my girlfriend, and a few of my friends have told me things he said about me and her behind my back... and to be honest somethings he says hurt... alot (i dont want to post them). He also has lied about me to my sister, and what makes it worse is that he Admits to everything, apologises, and then does it again.

Another thing, one of my girlfriends mates has told me that two of my girlfriends best mates feel like since I started going out with her, they felt like they where drifting away from her and asked me to spend less time with her. Normally, I would think okay but the truth is, that I spend alot of time away from her as it is, and when im with her, im usually also around some of her friends... but the two best mates tend to walk off when im around her.

So really I dont know what to do about various, things, which I must admit are quite silly and small. I love her, and know she loves me too. So im not breaking up with her for my friend. And well, yeah stuffs confusing #-o

Just saying to start things off, I doubt either of you love eachother. Who knows where your relationship goes, but love doesn't really happen after going out for a couple of weeks.

Ok, advice: With your friend, you need to tell him to cut the [cabbage]. I know he's admitted to it already, but you need to just confront him about it, and tell him to lay off, tell him that some of the things he said hurt you. There's not much more you can do beyond that. It might come down to which you value more, your friend or your girlfriend.

As for her mates, I wouldn't worry about it. Just tell them they can hang out with her when your with her (I know that they do, but saying they can might make it a bit easier for them to stay near her rather than feeling awkward) and they can always just hang out with her when you're not, aswell. I wouldn't worry about them too much.

Realize that there is a really small chance that things will work out between you and her. People have many relationships before they find the right person, personally I wouldn't even consider a girl being 'the one' unless we had been perfect for 3 years or so.

Your good friends will stay with you forever - there is a good reason for the saying "bros before hos" so you should stick by it.

You don't have to break up with her, but you should spend more time with the friend who was around before she was and will be around after she leaves. (if you stop dogging him like that)

Well you can't deny that the friend is being a douche about it. He should be straight forward, honestly I'm not sure how he stacks up against the girl.

I'm assuming you're both under 16, as most 16 year olds don't think they're in love after two weeks - especially if they think they're relationship's perfect (hint: if you don't fight, it won't work guys - I've never known a girl who doesn't like to argue with the people she cares for.). When you start to get in a relationship and spend time with an "outsider", your old friends will feel territorial and jealous about your time, especially if you spend a lot of time together. This really extends to all ages, but it can be really bad at this age, because I'm absolutely positive half of your conversations involve something you've done with this girl.

But, enjoy it while it lasts. Take rollercoasters. What, ten minutes of fun? But it's still fun. Enjoy it, get off, and hope that you get to find an even better one when you're done.

So here's the deal.

A couple of months ago, I dated a girl (We'll call her Kate). It built up for about a week, then we actually dated. We broke up after 2 days. Kate plays water polo one helluva a lot. Right now, she plays for her club, and Team Ontario. She even played for Team Canada over the March break. The reason we broke up was exactly because of this. School and water polo took up all of her time. Even though we went to the same school, the most I'd be able to see her/talk to her is about an hour, during lunch. So we broke up, but are still good friends (We both still have feeling for eachother). Once schools ends and summer starts, so do her all-day practices (As in 18-20 hours a week), since she's going to Hungary with Team Ontario for two weeks (Was originally four, then six, now two). She gets back August 1st. We're still good friends, I still have feelings for her, I'm almost certain she still has feelings for me. We talk on msn every other day or so. About two, three weeks ago, we get talking about us, and she ends up revealing that she broke up with me with the intention of getting back together, but she's realized something (About her, not us, she did tell me what it is), so she's decided against the getting back together. By now I'm over her in the sense that I still want to date her, but it's no the end of the world.

Then comes Mary. I met her at a party last Wednesday. We've talked on msn quite a bit over the past couple of days. Saw a movie with her Monday, we had an awesome time. I've decided that I'm going to try and date her, I'm not going to wait the rest of the summer for Kate (She gets back August 1, but there's something else), especially if I'm not sure what's going to happen. We're still very good friends, so I'm worried about what her reaction to me and Mary will be, in case Kate still has feelings for me. I want to keep the friendship, since I'd say she probably is the person I trust the most right now.

Just thought I'd put some context as to how much water polo Kate plays. Since late April to mid-May, I've seen Kate about 5-6 times outside of school. Of those, I've talked/hung out with her 4 times (Walked her home, after my rugby game, she passed by on a run, going to her house for fireworks last Friday). The most I've talked to her face to face was going to her house for fireworks, which was about 2.5 hours.

So advice is welcome, but right now I've made up my mind. I'm going to try and date Mary. Again, there's just the nagging little corner of my mind worrying about Kate. Telling you this is one of those it-feels-better-to-let-it-out kind of things.

Tell Kate that you met a girl. She's your friend, if anything she should be happy. She broke up with you, and it's not your responsibilty to wait for her so that you can be convenient for her. Mary is available and at the ready, and you won't even see Kate for almost a month. You seem to value her feelings alot though, so tell Kate about Mary before you actually make your move. She may even support your decision (especially because she said she didn't want to get back together). Don't get hung up on Kate is my point.

but seriously: that sucks. Your parents will need a lot of time before they "lighten up". Especially if this is your first girlfriend. And depending on your age, 1 month actually does seem kinda fast. Just exxplain the situation exactly how it is to your girlfriend. She'd have to be nuts not to understand.

ugh....no you don't (bolded for emphasis). Sorry to break it to you, but you've been going out for all of two weeks. If you think you love her, then yes you are spending too much time with her. Back up a bit. Hang with your friends and let her go with hers. What you're doing now is very unhealthy.

RPG and harrinator, thanks, although I've already decided to do that. It does help to have my decision agreed with though.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Blegh i feel like [cabbage] at the moment.

My girlfriend broke up with me last Saturday, because she thought I was "too dependant on her" and that "she is an independant person" She also has a lot of stress due to what her family has been through and that shes going to college in about 8 months.

Somehow she still said she wanted to be my friend, and that she still loves me.

Were those just filler words, or does anyone think she means them?

And what do I do to to get over this feeling that keeps driving me back to her, because as much as I want to be with her again, I know I have to take the hard road and move on. As much as I want to get back together, I know it is just a dream because we dated once before and she broke up with me for personal reason, and that she "doesnt want to consistently keep breaking up and getting back together with someone"

Tryin' not to be emo, but i feel like everything just got sucked into an abyss

Start thinking of her as a friend + look for other women.

Since you seem to be still madly in love with her, what you do is pick one flaw (even if it is minor like "She is a [bleep] to me"), keep that flaw in mind.

Every time you start to think about her and how much you miss her, just think of that flaw.

Works for me anyways.

She probably meant that she loves you as a friend.

P.S Don't bother trying to be less 'dependant' on her, it won't work and you can hardly change yourself, and you shouldn't change yourself for someone; you'll get fed up of not being yourself in the end.

I know. Its over. She said almost exactly what you said~ "people dont change"

Its hard when your only a Junior in high school and you dont really feel for any other girls in the school. I dont want a pointless, 3 month relationship. I'd prefer to play for keeps. Its just that High School isnt ment for that. College is. :(

[/hide]

V lol I looked at the whole big thing and was like "wtf I wrote you guys a book!"

W0000000000000000T

You guys are all going to love me again. Same problems with this girl. Although I can save I have changed a lot for the better 8-) . Its been really weird lately, my unstable emotions matched up with just seeing her recently. Since we broke up we havnt talked, which I was fine with. I mean, im crushed but I can grow a pair and move on. But heres what I dont understand.

After me & her broke up, we both kinda went emo (in taking terms of the stereotype where theyre all depressed and stuff) in terms of personality for a while. We sulked, never were happy when we didnt need to be, so on and so on. Eventually we started getting more stable w/o each other, but idk about her, but I cant give up so easily. I gave this girl everything but my virginity; heart, mind, bold, soul. I [bleep]ing meant it in this relationship, and I think she did too. I mean, everything sets me off into thinking about this girl, because our relationship was everything to me.

The only real comfort is that we both have stayed single during this, but knowing her I'm more likly to pick up someone then she is, its just the way she is.

Shes extremely cautious around guys, because of her father. (her father cheated on her mother secretly for ~9 years and they got a divorce about 3-4ish years ago.) She has that mindset of "all guys are pigs" and such and such, but somehow I was different :-k

She told me she loved me before she can even tell her own father the same line. Which is why I still see things the way I do. I know this is getting into TMI but there were times where if I was there with her, and not on the phone she would have been willing to lose it to me (yeah, hopefully you guys take the hint L0L)

If me, a guy, can make so much difference on a girl like that, I refuse to accept the answer of that she loves me as a friend, because I know its more then that.

Now shes heading off for college (Towston in MD i think?) but theres a catch. After we broke up, through the "emo" mood, and even up untill graduation she was claiming she "didnt want to talk to anyone from [my town] when she goes off to college" Another catch; We all, including me and her, got back recently from marching in Washington DC for the Independence Day Parade (exciting, huh?), which would really be the last time I would see her in person. At midnight Monday morning, despite leaving instantly because she had work at the local YMCA summer camp, she went over to a few close friends as they were leaving, and gave each a hug and said some stuff, which idk what it was nor was it any of my business. But then she came over to me. With a face as if she was worried I was going to leave without saying goodbye. I somehow got a big hug that night, with a message of my own.

Despite the fact I will never forgive her for what she put me through, I still love her. I told her that. She still loves me <3: . She also said to stay strong and to "keep in touch"

Now here comes the question. Does anyone think, that if I casually keep contact with her, that in a "good-case" scenario (she doesnt fall head-over-heels over someone new, dies, etc [lol on dying]) that I may have another chance 3-5 years down the road, when we both get into the real world?

If theres a chance, shes worth waiting that amount of time for her. As one of my friends said, its either love or obsession. As much as I personally think its obsession, I think the true love feeling will come out and show itsself eventually.

opinions/rate/hate lol, well opinions please ::'

I can take negative opinions, Its not like I'll commit suicide if it doesnt work, I'll just move on. It would bee as tough as it has been, but I can make it, because I have so far.

Move on with your life, find a new girl. If it was "meant to be" with that girl, then it'll happen. Don't sit around for 5 years just thinking about some girl you haven't seen for years. Exactly what I was thinking. I AM moving on, but I'm still keeping her in the back of my mind and my heart. Is that wrong?

Every time you have a meaningful relationship with someone, a bit of that will remain with you for the rest of your life, even if you've moved on completely. I don't know if you will ever end up being with her again, but, I've know a couple who went out in highschool, re-met 10 years later, and are getting married in a few weeks. You never know what will happen. There's nothing wrong with keeping her in your mind and heart, but if you get into a meaningful relationship with someone else sometime down the raod, it wouldn't be fair for you to be wishing it was her rather than the girl your with.

Find new girls, have some fun. Don't plan your life on a chance.

Yeah, I understand. I guess I just want to find someone who gives me the same feeling that she gives me, wether it be her or someone new. Thats all I want I guess

All I'm confused about is why the good girls always fall for the idiot guys.

All I'm confused about is why the good girls always fall for the idiot guys.

They don't. Not that this is always the case, but most of the time when you think a guy's a jerk, you just don't really know them that well. I could say the same thing for guys falling for idiot girls, but I know most of the time it's just they way I perceive the girl, and that I don't actually know her. Most of the time. Then there are cases when people are in it just for how hot the other person is.

College is. :(

I [bleep] meant it in this relationship, and I think she did too.

You remind me of the movie "Just Friends". Watch it. Once your done inwardly laughing at yourself, you may be satisfied with the result. Not to say that movies are anything like real life, but I can definatly see this girl in your future. I suggest getting over her and moving on, then meeting her either at a highschool re-union or before hand. Just make sure that you do massive improvements to yourself before you re-meet. Only time will tell, but play your cards right and she could be back. But put that in the back of your head for now. Focus on you. Live your life, find a few hobbies, some new friends and maybe even a new girl or two. If you still think of the original girl, well take it as a sign to give her a call.

My theory on how she loves you "as a friend" and how you were "different" stems from her lack of stable father. I've found that girls with daddy issues are extra confusing and difficult to hold a relationship with. Perhaps she sees you almost as a father figure, probably due to your upstanding male role model-esque behavior around her. Believe it or not being the knight in shining armor makes you more friend than boyfriend. Stupid folklore has been screwing us up for generations.

Cant be stuffed with numbers so lets toss some red writing in instead.

EDIT: Change to orange, I cant even read the red without squinting >.<

Never throw the "emo" word around carelessly (Due to a multitude of differrent meanings, people get offended etc), If you mean you became emotional, its totally normal. First thing you need to do is take a step back and clear your head for a moment. This exact thing happened with one of my ex's a few years back and in fact were meeting up thursday to catch up as friends. Even though a relationship may end, It doesn't mean your friendship has to, and who knows, something may happen a few years later.

Although you proberly know it, this isn't your fault. She merely just has trust issues due to family serverances (Big word, isn't it?) that have been caused because of trust, give her time. It might not be for weeks, months or even years but she'll see one day not all men are pigs.

She told me she loved me before she can even tell her own father the same line. Which is why I still see things the way I do. TMI?

Women are difficult. We cannot read their mind, and if we could, all form of love and curiosity would just dissapear

You did leave a impact on her life, and not a bad one either. what was the message exactly? (if its not too personal)

Despite the fact I will never forgive her for what she put me through, I still love her. I told her that. She still loves me <3: . She also said to stay strong and to "keep in touch"

You say so now, but trust me in time you'll forgive.

Theres ALWAYSa chance (continued next orange text)

If theres a chance, shes worth waiting that amount of time for her. As one of my friends said, its either love or obsession. As much as I personally think its obsession, I think the true love feeling will come out and show itsself eventually.

However, waiting for her could be bad on the heart (emotionally), She could fall for another guy, or you could fall for another girl. We cant plan the future, only prepare for what lies ahead.

On the lighter side of things, I ate your cookies.

Popoto.~<3

All I'm confused about is why the good girls always fall for the idiot guys.

Jerks have attractive qualities. Leader of men and women, social proof, confidence, willingness to walk away, ability to affect her emotions and having a strong identity are all attraction switches that jerks trigger.

Obviously you can still have these qualities and not be a jerk.

In a complete turn of events, me and Kate are now dating, or at least trying to date  Something we both realized is that if we stay away from each other, we are actually able to start forgetting about each other. The only problem is that once we talk, the feelings come up again. Which is a problem since we both either want to date or still remain good friends. So, we just decided "[bleep] that" to the whole not dating thing, and now we're going to try again. And we couldn't have chosen a worse time to try. She leaves for Hungary Thursday, is gone for two weeks, goes up north to her friend's cottage (Which luckily is ~20 minutes from mine), then goes down to Vermont to another friend's cottage. Not to mention that she's busy until Thursday, mainly because of practice.

Not to mention that almost all of her guy friends (Which pretty much is all her friends, she finds girls too [bleep]y) like her, so this just screws things over on that side of the fence. I really can only laugh at how screwed things are whenever we try to date.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

So here's the deal.

Well, against my better judgement, I wish you luck with this endeavor. Like you said this was horrible timing. And timing in life is everything.
