Why is farming so mis-judged?

Featured Replies

I currently use farming to grow ranarr: almost no work, no chance at failure (my arm's patch) and 'free' herbs.

Oh also growing orange trees with seeds from MTK ::'

JW, does watering even do anything? Like make them die less?

  • Author

All I do is water them once then just go do something else. I hardly think watering even does anything. Probably just a lower risk of them getting diseased.

Second, the disease system. I hate it. I absolutely loathe it. There is no reason to punish a person for planting a herb seed then going out for a while instead of constantly worrying about it. If Jagex wanted to make farming realistic, they could have just raised the grow-times significantly, and that wouldn't have worked well either. Growing plants in real life isn't exactly the average 'scaper's idea of fun anyway.

They're not punishing the people who do other things while their plants are growing, they're just giving them a reason to stay at the patch. Still, if you're constantly going to patches to make sure your plants don't get diseased then you're an idiot.

And if there was no disease what would happen to compost (and supercompost)? Compost makes Farming more complicated, and to me that's a good thing.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Supercompost + compost add more yield to your crops.

And something has to be done about the desiese system, I'm 99 farming and my ranarr die alot more frequently than they should.

the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming.

I think that in order for the plant to move to the next gorwth stage it must be watered.

That's obviously wrong, since I've grown loads of sweetcorn and strawberries and never ever watered them.

Completely wrong.

In my experience farming, I have never found watering useful. From what I know, Watering lessens the chance of desiese (By an un-noticable amount by the way), and if I had to guess, only for the stage it's in, since the plants don't appear watered anymore.

And if you're saying you need to water to move to the next stage, you must not even have 10 farming, especially since a few crops are un-waterable as well.

Water = useless

most people don't try the skill or are misinformed on how to train it.

for training its probably one of the most balanced skills in the game it rewards people by how long they have played(year wise) rather than (hour wise) if you see someone with a farming cape you know that they put the thought into it and have worked on it while

herbs- make good money and not good exp but it probably will save you a few trees

low level trees it can take a year or more to get level 99 farming but they are cheap and easy too do

high level trees- very expensive but it wont take as long to get level 99 farming

personally i got 64 with genie lamps and then did trees til 80 and planning on 99 after slayer with trees and snapherbs.

So far im loving Farming (Mind you im only level 14 in it going to rannars to make more cash for Farming) i go take a break or wood chop and make some more money its just a nice time saver in my opinion

Although my farming level is low *points to sig*

It does have its uses.

I grow alot of herbs and trees which i later use :)

There's parts I do like and parts I dislike.

I like how you can log out or go train something else and you'll still end up getting Xp. Also, I like how you can profit from it and the skill is more entertaining than most of the other ones.

I don't like how I have to prepare and get all my tools, seeds, and teles every single time. It just gets annoying and makes me lose motivation.

Play the dreaded game Real Life? NO WAY! Lmao.. sorry had, to just sounded funny using the term "either play real life". (Thats also a good siggy thing I should put btw  )

But ya, with farming thats actually what I do. For the people who don't do much during the day, just little things around the house, take care of things needed to do, but have time, Logging in every few hours (Hour and a half in my case), just for farming runs, is one of the best things ever. Do what you need to do IRL, play other games, etc, but get on for an herb run or more depending on what plants, and its like 10 - 20 mins of farming, which most people can find time to take a break to do that during their day.

I have to agree many are misinformed on how to train the farm skill such as this person ~ :wall:

That would be enough to turn anyone away from the skill I seen this lots while training farming that last few months.

P.S. 99 Farming and loving the cape.

When did you get 99 Farm? If it was just recently, I knew I shouldn't have logged out -.- But congrats if you read this again. <3:

Hai Crusader. I seen you round farming.

karils1.jpg

most of the people who hate it just plant their tree/herb and sit there for 30 minutes going "omfg hurry up and grow!!!!!" then they realise its never gonna grow and never touch a farming patch again. if they only realised they could do other things while farming instead of sitting there guarding a tree for 14 hours

Money_Wasted.png

I used to dislike farming. A lot. Then I realised that Vinesweeper + growing crops with supercompost = huge profit and awesome powertraining.

Hehe, this is like Jagex telling half of Runescape players that they're [developmentally delayed]. Sort of. That's how I interpreted it. :P

Runescape is why I support abortion.

It seems harder than what it really is.

Yes, most things either seem harder than they are or easier than they are. I find that very few things are the latter, though. One of those few things was the Banshee Mistress.

I thought farming was stupid until I relized I could make maney off herb farmng. It is one of the most usefull and easy skills to train imo, as it costs almost no attention. I takes a bit, but it is worth it. I say, let them hate it, more ranarr proft for me.

3772841190_eba9dc52b2.jpg

Farmings pretty easy, imo.

I plant Ranarrs, Watermelons (nasturniums to protect from disease) and Willow Trees (I'm going to do maples soon) and make profit, at abpout 30k xp per day. Its only like an hours work and I can spend the rest of the time fishing, it works perfectly :)

The Ranarrs easily pay for the teles, seeds and other stuff :D

And the way I do it I don't even need to water, can't water trees or herbs anyway, and the watermelons can't die.

Doomy edit: I like sheep

Too many stubborn people.

Farming can be profitable and a great way to multi-task or take a break from RS. You can easily plant seeds, log off, come back on about a hour later to find a couple inventory of herbs. Easily make money without staring at the screen for hours.

I'm not very high leveled in the runescape and I don't have much experience with farming but I have always found it a great skill to work at, plant some herbs trees seeds etc....then go do something that you love in the middle...when you come back to check on your trees, plants and stuff you've usually made around 100k..how much better can that get
