No. Just no. maybe with a friend, but the kills will be too slow really.

You need AT LEAST all melee stats 60+. And even then you're better off killing something else; cockroach workers or ice giants are good alternatives. Cockroach Soldiers are for people with combat stats in the upper 60s (for F2P, in members the requirements would be much lower since they have super sets and better equipment).

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

True, If you are to low like you said you should go to the Ice Giants and hop to fight them.

i my self just got al combat stats on the 60's and str is 61 but i find it mush easier to kill them with these stats and also i once killed a roach by myself and toke 1hp damage from it. the only problem now is the new pvp worlds and food shortages.

  • Author

Yeah, there's a huge shortage of food right now, but atleast it goes to the good purpose of killing newbs.

Well, I tried killing these with level 60 attack and defence, and level 62 strength, and found I was just not killing enough per trip for my liking. I'm going to train on giant spiders and come back with all level 65s. I was using an amulet of power, rune scimmy, and lobsters, although I plan on using salmon instead since I'm using them to train fishing anyway.

Don't return here, ever. Cockroach workers suck for F2P.

Also anchovy pizzas are much better in f2p than swordies.

Why the heck does everyone use expensive food for training? Lobbies, swordfish, pizzas, etc. I always use salmon or tuna, unless I'm fighting in a very remote location (far from a bank) in which case I use a mix of plain pizzas and tuna. And cockroach soldiers are NOT in a remote location, less than a minute away from Edgeville bank.

Considering you are spending money on pizzas already, you might as well add some anchovies to them and make them heal 4 more -.-

Lobbies are easily accessible, one can fish 27 per trip if they have the explorer's ring, and you barely burn any at around 60 cooking

I don't recommend you use the Range skill for these. They is no really confirmed safespot in the places where I fight. I use the lowest level in which the safety gloves are found. But if you must blow off my warnings then here is a base set up:

For food, well since there's no safe stops you might find it wise to bring a full inventory of tuna. I don't know why people use Rune Full Helms instead of a coif.

1. Firstly, you do not need any safespots, nor will they be of any use considering the cockroaches are able to shoot back at you. You can stand 1 square away from the cockroach and it will used its ranged/mage attack instead of melee, and vice versa.

2. For your setup, use normal leather boots instead of fancy/fighting and a normal/team cape. The boots have negative bonuses towards range & mage and the defense loss from using leather boots are made back with the cape. Fancy boots simply provide too little bonuses to be worth that 1 range attack ;)

3. The rune full helms are used because it provides the best defense bonus in freeplay while only having-2 range bonus. It would be helpful in conditions like these where the monster hits you no matter what. For high defense bonuses, you can even have rune full helm with rune plateskirt/legs(along with d'hide body& vambraces) and still maintain a positive range bonus (+49 with maple shortbow) and have around +120 in defense.

and even with Rune full helm, legging, kiteshield, dragonhide body, vambraces and crossbow, you still have +24 range attack(around +170 for defense).

Fancy boots are not used for stats above, if you insist on using it, take one point off the range bonuses.

Plain pizza= 270gp. Anchovy pizza= 500 something. Don't underestimate the significance of "adding some anchovies".

Who cares about fishing lobbies? This is a guide about combat, not fishing. I'm guessing that you're obsessed with self-efficiency. News flash: You can get most combat supplies instantaneously off the GE. The only cost is money, and it takes a lot more money to buy a load of lobsters than to buy a load of tuna.

And by the way I've found something better than plain pizzas: apple pies. They're like 150 each and heal the same; 14hp in two bites.

That's why your guide isn't getting a lot of good reviews.

good first guide-7.5/10

just started killing these today and on first trip i came out with 201k 8-)

to improve the guide you could put in some averages:

.money per trip

.kills per trip

.time per trip

and also a members section would be good

This is a great guide. I like to go in maxed gear for F2P (Full Rune, Berserker Shield, Strength Amulet, Rune Gauntlets) and a full inventory of anchovy pizzas. I remember when they first came out and the Law Rune and Rune Item drop rate was so high that I was making 200k an hour in F2p. Also, their range attack did nothing back then. They aren't very good XP, but you can't beat the drops in F2P. \'

what food did you use?

16 monkfish

(they did hit harder then normal so my time there was shortened)
