Lack of titles, no

Lack of original games, yes.

You can only have so of a genre on a system before they start to get stale.

Sadly, few console games are original these days, regardless of their platform.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

whats so good about the final fantasy games that makes everyone like them anyways? is it the random mosters popping out of no where? is it the crappy battle system that you cant tell what is going on half the time? or is it the fact that you only have to play about 1/3 of it, the rest is cut scenes? 7 and 8 sucked. i really shouldnt judge all of them on just two, but i am.

Some people like action games, some like puzzle games, and some like RPGs. When it comes to RPGs Final Fantasy is king. Consider it the "Halo" for RPGers.

Any questions?

I would have to say Baldur's Gate is better but then again it's personal opinion as both games have universal acclaim. It boils down to style and for me the classic D&D theme wins it over Final Fantasy any day.

FF is not the only king.

Finaly, another person who shares my hate for Final Fantasy.

IMO, in number 7 , when you got those cool special attacks.... how long they took. I mean, it was cool the first or second time it was cast, but than its sort of like *yawn* let me fight now...

And the random battles seemed too much like each was your last. So each random battle (for me at least) was lasting quite a long time.

In my opinion, the only realy good turn based Rpg there was for consoles was chrono trigger. it didn't waste your time with a million hours of cutscenes, and you could see where the monsters were instead of random fights.

As far as the Ps3 / Xbox360 / Nintendo Revolution goes...

... I'm not geting any of them. In my opinion, they all are going to suck quite horribly. ps3 is going to continue churning out its same list of titles, none which intrest me. Xbox360 will cost a ton, and Will have games that are going to be out for the pc anyways.

Nintendo revolution, well, i realy haven't seen its lineup, so i can't judge on it. But for some odd...odd reason, i have a feeling that the Revolution is going to make well... a revoultion and a comeback.

And no... i'm not a fanboy of "any" system, unless i can be a pc fanboy

EDIT: to the post above...

Baulders Gate II: Shadows of Ahm > Final Fantasy.

The FF series is just getting even worse with each new instalment. And I didn't like it to begin with :?

Sony were so wide of the mark with the theoretical specs of the PS2 compared to what they actually produced, it is hysterical to see people still falling for it. I would rather let the games do the talking instead of looking at a bunch of figures that assume near infinite bandwidth, full usage of every part and a full moon.

This fanboy crap is funny. I shall be buying every machine, like I did last time round and enjoying the games on it.

That dev-kit part is BS. The Sony E3 presentation is/was hosted on Gamespot. Same with Nintendo's and MS's. The Sony one included demos, tech demos (such as the next Unreal engine in real-time and a 3D landscape using the Cell processor only, not the NVidia video chip)... etc. It's almost 2 hours long. Watch it and tell me again the dev kit just came out. I don't believe it. Plus there's that KillZone 2 trailer that (last time I checked) nobody knew whether it was real-time or pre-calcluated. Sony said real-time. If it's true, it's insanely good and the dev-kit has to have been out for a while.

RebelAssassin, take note, you can watch some examples at least. I think MS also showed games. Only Nintendo didn't.

Can I just say that MS did the same thing that Sony did. The demos shown at E3 were run on 2 Mac G5s (irony there?), because they hadn't made a finished version of the 360 that looked good enough to display. They'd made the technology, and they'd made the case, they just hadn't put them together yet.

For those complaining about genres going stale - you haven't seen the Revolution or the DS. There's a reason why nintendo haven't announced that the controller will look like, and there's a reason why they called it Revolution. It's gonna be sweet.

My final point: Whoever it was that said that eventually MS will be the only thing keeping America's economy afloat: That and the arms industry.

but thats the deveploers fault there, they sold their souls to the devi...i mean, bill gates and everyone else that happened to walk on by.

anyways, ps1 probably was the best 1st gen. console. it was released really early into the market and that gave them the edge which they kinda took for granted when they released ps2.

eh, i guess if people like it. id personally take morrowind over any other rpg i played, followed closely by kings field 2, and then the games based on the d&d systems. but a lot of people like it, so i wont hold it against you

yeah, the very first one i got was cool, then after it went on for about a minute, i didnt know if i was going to get to play again or not. after that i only used them when i needed to.

Yes this is true however:

2 (single CPU) Mac G5's have less performance then the 3 CPU Xbox 360 with next gen. graphics card.

The Killzone 2 trailer was made with a render farm. This level of graphical quality will generally take one hour per FRAME to render and is something obviously way out of the PS3's capabilities.

The only one at E3 that didn't cheat and lie was Nintendo, but that might have been because they didn't annouce much.

Although the revolution that Iwata held up was just an empty case. But that's to be expected - you don't want to risk dropping and breaking an expensive prototype.

Very good point, I think the PS3's gonna be a solid system but that dude's probably right about no developers coming through in time for the launch.

*sigh* It's the GameCube all over again :(.

hehe, i used to be a nintendo fanboy but i realized that pc and other systems are greater. all nintendo has now are its famous series, like legend of zelda, mario, etc. i predict nintendo will be out of the console wars after the 3rd gen comes out, due to money and lack of 3rd party support.

Another former Nintendo Fanboy here as well (My last system was the 64). While Gamcube seemed like an "ok" system targeted at the younger audience, I was just too old to handle some of the games they were releasing. Only games I was interested at the time were the WrestleMania 19 game (which I read sucked) and Star Wars Rouge Squadron 2 (or whatever its official name was).

Jumped over to PS2 and I like it for the titles it has. And all the games I like to play the XBox lacked in anyways really.

I sat down and watched the 1 hour and 45 minute (or so) presentation of the PS3 over on IGN, and while they did focus on the Graphics a lot (most of which you wont ever probably see again) it all did look good. Its just a question as to whether that can be delievered in an actual game. I still don't believe any of the presentations were real time though, regardless of what Sony, IGN, or anyone says. The rubber duck demonstration might've been the only exception in my opinion.

Granted, I'm not some hardcore gamer. I have my own little types of games I like to play and thats that. But I think that article in general was just a bit harsh on the PS3, because I don't think the author (or anyone, but Sony and developers) can really say how well the progress of the console and games are going. He just seems like a Microsoft fan that just wants to sway people.

Either way, we'll see how everything unfolds eventually. I'm more or less getting a PS3... my girlfriend wants a XBox 360 cause its coming out sooner.

I'm simply just into Wrestling and NASCAR games, and Yukes/THQ and EA Sports have just seem to do well with those titles so far on the PS2. Can't wait to see what future titles will be like on PS3.

You might well be right, not saying you're wrong at all, but the question is there. When I saw it I couldn't believe it was real-time. Then apparently Sony said it was. I don't know. Anybody checked on that lately ? I've stopped following that controversy.

Agreed with Y2g too, this article is harsh on the PS3. Some of it may be true but it's clear he's not a Sony fan and it's slightly biased.

A small repost with some added info at the end.

Pre-rendered:

-Presence of ambient occlusion

-Radiosity (even more advanced than ray tracing)

-Massive, MASSIVE polycount

-View distance

-Advanced fluid simulation

-The need for a couple gigs of texture memory, at the very least.

If this is being rendered in real time, Pixar, ILM, Dreamworks and every other CG house should throw out their multimillion dollar render-farms and buy a couple PS3s instead, huh?!?

Again, there is nothing at all that suggests this was rendered in real time or on a PS3 at all.

For example, Real-time ray tracing in Quake 3 (this is less CPU intensive than radiosity) was programmed by uni students and it took a 20 1800+ Athlon̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s to render it at 20 FPS! http://graphics.cs.uni-sb.de/~sidapohl/egoshooter/

The cell processor is not something revolutionary, it can't even do graphics. It was originally planned to be a general processor but later Sony was forced to buy an NVIDIA GPU because of cell's poor performance.

I will go as far to say that Ken Kutaragi is somewhat insane with his claims.

Even if you get past the relatively poor translation the interview still defies logic. Lets not put a HD on the PS3 because no matter how big we make it, it still won't be enough so we won't bother?!?

"As it happens, Intel's was not the only alternative chip design that Apple had explored for the Mac. An executive close to Sony said that last year Mr. Jobs met in California with both Nobuyuki Idei, then the chairman and chief executive of the Japanese consumer electronics firm, and with Kenichi Kutaragi, the creator of the Sony PlayStation.

Mr. Kutaragi tried to interest Mr. Jobs in adopting the Cell chip, which is being developed by I.B.M. for use in the coming PlayStation 3, in exchange for access to certain Sony technologies. Mr. Jobs rejected the idea, telling Mr. Kutaragi that he was disappointed with the Cell design, which he believes will be even less effective than the PowerPC."

Hey I don't believe everything anyone says, that's why I said the question's there.

Ok, Killzone 2 looks good, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's as good as movie material. I've just seen Star Wars 3 for example and Killzone's demo is far behind. But I do see your point. As I said, I immediately thought "not real-time" when I first saw it. Time will tell.

About the HD, I think it's clear Sony wants to inundate the market with Memory Sticks, so no HD. I bet it would have happened with the PS2 if the PS2 Memory Card design hadn't been finalized before the Memory Stick one. Now Sony is a big player in digital cameras and that changes everything. They may also want to keep the price down by selling a no-HD option to steal even more people from MS/Nintendo. Time will tell... again lol.

I think having no HD is a big turn off, which most people agree on at another forum (bigger and generally more mature then tip.it :P) I visit. People just thought it was a way to make the PS3 sound cheaper, more competitive and create a memory card scam (people I know have up to half a dozen cards for the PS2) but at the same time Ken's going on about using the thing as a computer?!?

I think there is a huge draw back being restricted to memory card (even using a 1gig memory stick) as you can't cache as much and you have limited functionality such as no sountracks for sports games and little room for bonus content (1 gig will not get too far if you are downloading HD content). I think this is one of the major factors why Square Enix is doing MMO's on the Xbox360 (they even said in an article that they didnt want to pay for Sony's "online Cell space" only amplified by MMO's having large thumbprints).

Also if he is claiming to use it to do things such as Linux, Photo/movie editing then having no HD out of box would discourage development in this area (as well as discouraging things like MMO's and creative use of HD for increased gameplay).

I don't know, with this and Sony's decline in the electronic market (they are posting big loses, who is suprised if they are selling ~ 8 types of earphones for under $50 as well as a decline in quality) this console could be a make or break for them. It will not get rid of Sony outright but they may be forced to cut back on lavish expenses.
