Do you like comedy? Have a favorite comedian?

How about a joke? (CLEAN, mind you)

Browsing youtube, I found one of the most famous routines for a comedy group.

I love it. <3: Humor is quite possibly one of the greatest ideas in the world. If someone asked me what the purpose of life was, I would say, "To smile." And comedy definitely achieves that. Even making people laugh gives you a good feeling inside.

As for jokes, I find inappropriate jokes the funniest so I can't really share them on here.

Colbert! Colbert! Colbert!

(and after that comes Jon Stewart and his correspondents ::' )

I love Colbert :P .

I also really like the guy who does the "hot pocket" skit. I never remember his entire name though, I think it's Jeff (something).

RIP George Carlin, one of the true comedic geniuses and someone who wasn't afraid to push the envelope.

One thing I would like to add. Comedy isn't just about standup or slapstick routines. You can find comedy everywhere. Music is one of my favorite places to find it, especially parodies. Doctor Demento, Weird Al, The great Luke Ski are all extremely talented parodizers (if that's a word). Then there's just straight musical comedy. Bands like Bloodhound Gang (if you look past all the songs about innuendos, even though those are also funny) are talented. Then, of course, some comedians incorporate songs into their act (Denis Leary is one of them).

So, find some good comedy set to music. If you want some suggestions, PM me ^_^

Jim Gaffigan is the guy your thinking of. He's really funny :P.

My top 5 favorite comedians/comedic personalities:

5. Will Ferrell

4. Jon Stewart

3. Dave Chappelle

2. Lewis Black

1. George Carlin

Carlin is most definatly the #1 comedian of all time in my opinion. I wouldn't be even half the person I am today without listening to his cd's and watching his specials. The video already posted on here by him is one that changed my life. One of my favorite pieces of work (Strong langauge follows):

My favourite Comedy is Blackadder.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Ah yup, that's it. :D

Also seconding Dave Chappelle. A lot of people dislike him due to being so popular (and the idiots who only quote his show) but he's one of the best stand up comics of our time IMO. He can seriously make anything funny just because he knows how to deliver a punchline, unlike some people *cough dane cook *cough*.

Plus most of his "racial" humor isn't just "huur black people" and "huur white people" but actually damn funny.

Dave Chappelle really is funny. He beats Carlos Mencia any day.

Oh man, Mencia is horrible. I don't know what comedy central thought when they hired him.

Also going back to Chappelle, but I like that he stopped doing the show when it started to get dry instead of milking it for what its worth.

Dunno if we're talking stand-up.. But the whole monthy-python (spelling?) gang are hilarious.

Stand-up: Eddie Izzard and Peter Kay.

One of my favorite non-cartoon "sitcoms" are Trailer Park Boys!

more english representation needed!

Peter Kay is fantastic, making some of the most brilliant comedy I've ever seen out of stuff that every person can completely relate to.

Lee Evans stage show is brilliantly energetic, and fantastically fast pasted. I love it.

By far and away my favourite stand up, and a brilliant actor too, is Bill bailey. He is pure awesome.

yfh7tSYVQdU Go Go watch all 10 parts of this show.

Al Murray is fantastic, although somehow I doubt the majority of people would like him outside of England.

xUdaPNXC_68

In terms of non-stand up, I enjoy a good sitcom, all the way from the Classic giants like Blackadder down to the relatively unknown gems like Black Books.

I enjoy family guy and American dad, Futurama, and to a lesser extent the simpsons,

As crude as it is, I do have a liking for Jackass sometimes.

Bill Hicks- "One Night Stand" Part 1. One of the most amazing comedians of all time.

George Carlin- "The Planet is Fine" Another of the greatest comedians of all time.

My favourite of all time is probably Bill Hicks. Some of his philosophy is summed up in the quote in my sig. The guy was such a rival of all things status quo, and that's a huge part of what drew me to his comedy. Although he seemed like a misanthrope in a lot in his comedy, in reality the guy was quite the opposite. He was really keen on seeing humanity rise to new levels; he was a dreamer like John Lennon.

Another one who really challenged the status quo is the recently departed George Carlin. He's been another favourite of mine for some time now. His incredible wit, precision and endeering style mixed with all kinds of crass subject matter was funny as hell. Again, he was a rival of the status quo, not just another comedian in it for [cabbage]s and giggles listing off half-baked jokes. Having said that it's not like they have to be like Carlin and Hicks to be good comedians.

I've also been getting into comedy central recently - Colbert, Stewart, Chapelle - they're all awesome.
