I don't know where else to ask this, so I'll go ahead and ask here.

 

The fall semester is coming to a close for me and I'll have a ton of free time until school starts up again in January. During that time, I want to learn something technical/useful/fun. I'm going to school for mechanical engineering, but I have no clue what I want to specialize in or what kind of job I want, so I figured I'd try exposing myself to a bunch of stuff and see what I like. I've tried learning programming (python), but I never got very far into it (Finished codecademy and learned some pygame) and got bored of it after maybe a month. I've tried getting back into it, but the same thing keeps happening. The same thing happened with the Arduino I ordered. I'd love to hear what you guys have to suggest. Bonus points if it's not super expensive. Double bonus points if it's something I can do on my computer.

Oh yeah and the Liquor stores aren't going on strike, Christmas is saved!

You can only buy liquor at government run stores in Manitoba. All Crown Corporations have unionized employees. You can buy beer and coolers at hotel vendors though, which is kinda cool because a lot of them have drive throughs.

 

It's terrible but it also makes a shitload of money for the provincial government so the political will to end the monopoly simply isn't there.

Jersey is easy, liquor til 10pm, beer til mindnight, bars stay open and do whatever til 2, unless they have a permit for later.

 

PA is dumb and requires 2 different licences for beer and liquor and neither can simultaneously sell tobacco. And they all have to be closed by like 2pm on sunday. Lameeee

For example, you can buy a bottle of vodka in the middle of the night with pretty much 200% markup, and they only have to open the bottle once and then can screw the cap back on.

You have to consume the liquor AT the liquor store? That sounds incredibly dangerous what with driving and all.

Well, noone really follows the rule that you have to consume at the spot.

And who brought driving into the picture?

Zero tolerance for any driving under influence. They impound your car and you go to jail. If you have as much as .001%. Absolutely zero tolerance for any drunk driving.

So we only have designated drivers who don't drink a drop the whole evening or taxis.

 

 

IN OTHER NEWS: got involved in a fight. As one who broke apart the fight, but still. Cops were called, insults were fired, blood was pouring, jackets were ruined.

My old boss had 3 DUIs. He lost his license for a year, and got fined like crazy. Not much else. A friend of mine had 2, first offense was a $10,000 fine, the second was 6 months jail&6 months rehab.

I am on a high note today. Fridge is working, Got plenty of food, bought the last copy of Kingdom Hearts 2.5 within walking distance, my Shagbark plushie arrives tomorrow and my big paycheck comes tomorrow afternoon.

 

I might update my blog this weekend too. I haven't updated all the good shit that's been happening to it yet.

My G500 left click started doubleclicking about a month ago. Unfortunately it's been discontinued, but they offered to send me a G502 for free, and they didn't want the G500 back so I can keep it as a backup for now. Kinda disappointed I won't get a replacement G500, but on the bright side I can remap left click to one of the macro buttons and keep using it if the G502 ends up being as uncomfortable as it looks.
