The smileys are bland and outdated. They have been the same since I arrived at the forums. The only 2 new ones I noticed are :geek: and :ugeek: .

 

 

 

Perhaps you could make/find some like:

 

 

 

1. A smiley (with an angry face) holding a sign that says "Off-Topic"

 

 

 

2. Two pennies ( like "That's my two cents")

I think it would be fun to have people design from The Gallery or wherever some smilies for us as a contest (not necessarily a rank contest, because I'm sure the Staff would get a lot of "I'm artistically challenged - that's not fair!" complaints). It would be a lot of fun to see what people come up with.

Didn't I make you a "tripsis ftw" emoticon thing? I can try to make a few and pm them to you and you can judge them. Its been several months since my last one.

Just because some moronic users can't see that a smiley contest would benefit them, thus they complain, shouldn't mean that those who do see, that the contest will provide with a larger array of smileys, should be hindered by Tip.It giving into the complaints. You can't always listen to the complaints, sometimes you need to ignore them.

 

 

 

Anyways the previous emotions, or default ones for phpbb2 boards were far better than the ones given in phpbb3. I'm pretty sure if the default phpbb3 emotes were redone to look or resemble the old phpbb2 emotes, not many would complain.

 

 

 

Though I'm still up for new emotes, not putting down the idea, I just can't think of any new emotes that would be worthwhile, thus a contest to gather creativity would be a great idea.

I tried pixeling a Jealous emoticon for tif a while ago, it never really worked. I don't have a blank face for phpbb3 now though, I suppose I'll have to make that myself. Sounds like a fun way to kill time, I have had very little to do lately. (Except school, which is just starting. :( )

BTW I redid both of these completely, no copypasta involved. But I did use the originals as a guide. I'm thinking of changing the XD slightly.

To me the :P one scares me a bit, all you can see is red inside the mouth, it's not really a tongue... and :) scares me too, the half-hearted grin... why can't it just be a line for a mouth?

Yes, but if you go to blogscape, you'll find lots of people using then fun pointless ones, jsut to make bumps and posts interesting . :twss: . You gotta have some random smilies, just to lighten up the mood right? :ugeek:

I don't think a contest would be the best idea, because, as others have said, we'd get some complainers that they can't do art therefore we aren't giving everyone an equal chance. The best bet imo would be to post a thread in the Gallery asking for some users to make some. We could then choose the good ones and add them, crediting the makers in an announcement.

That was what I meant ;) It is still a contest that everyone may partake in, but it is not a Rank Contest.

That was always my general thinking. No matter WHAT kind of contest we have - you need skill. If it's a caption contest, you need to be clever or humerous. If it's a "Draw something about the Tip.it Staff" you need creativity, etc. Not everyone has those skills.

 

 

 

The reason why I discouraged a Rank Contest for this idea is simply because of the amount of complaints the Staff have gotten in the past. I mean if we DON'T involve art, writing, etc. in the Rank Contests, the Staff will quickly run out of ideas if they haven't already.
