I've seen many claims that Jagex says as long as a private server doesn't connect to the Jagex servers, it's legal. I've found proof that you're breaking a law by creating a private server.

 

 

 

Intellectual property rights

 

You must not reverse-engineer, decompile or modify any Jagex Product client software in any way (except to the extent allowed by applicable law). You must not use a modified/customised version of the client software or attempt to sub-license it. You must not create or provide any other means by which any Jagex Product may be played by others (including, without limitation, replacement or modified client/server software, server emulators).

 

 

 

The last sentence states that private servers are illegal.

I'm pretty sure everyone that makes a private server knows it is Illegal. They take the risk to have fun in the old runescape/modified runescape.

jagex has never claimed they are legal as long as they are seperate.

JaGEx have always stated that private servers are against their rules. If you are found to be using them you'll be banned.

It is pretty obvious. They copyrighted RuneScape and the servers are direct copies of RuneScape, so you are breaking copyrighted laws.
