Da Pirates
In the Tip.It rules, it claims that Tip.It is a G-Rated site. Yet the Tip.It censor allows you to say [wagon], damn, bastard (etc...) if based on MPAA ratings not only would this break the "G" mould, but it would go into PG or even PG-13. Is this hypocrisy or just an exaggeration on Tip.It's part? Please explain why I can say "Bastard" on a so-called "G-Rated" forum. BR BR BR? tripsis
I think the rating needs to be changed, rather than tighten up the rules (if that's what you were suggesting? I can't really tell). Those words were all censored until about a year ago when the Staff decided that it was time to "lighten up a bit." Up until that point, the forum was truly a G-rated forum (or as close as you can get, I suppose). I honestly think the forum should be rated PG-13. You have to be 13 years old to sign up anyway, so PG-13 is almost the most appropriate rating. Sure there are people under the age of 13 who sign up, but there are also people under the age of 13 who see PG-13 movies on their own. And even putting that aside, I feel like PG-13 is the most appropriate rating for the forum when analyzing the amount of swearing you can get away with and some of the post content that you can get away with without being punished for it. I understand that the Staff want to maintain a G-rating so that the forum can be fun and appropriate for all ages, but then why not allow people under the age of 13 to register? As you pointed out, our current forum is NOT A G-RATED FORUM. It may be labeled as such, but you wouldn't hear/see the words that you mentioned in a G-rated film or real life environment. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Errdoth
G-rated is more of a general guideline, I'm assuming. If you use those words to abase somebody, they should be removed, but they sometimes help to get a point across :P If you feel they're going to cause hurt feelings, just report the post and let a mod make a decision on it. pryomancer
I think most young people are exposed to these words and worse anyway. I doubt anything will seriously offend someone when it's used in general conversation.

tripsis
If it's this "bad" now, imagine how "bad" it might get if we up it to PG-13. :P I'm not suggesting loosening up the rules whatsoever. I'm simply saying that PG-13 is a more appropriate label for the current rules, censor and level of leniency. The forum we have now is not G, even if the Staff choose to label it as such. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

I honestly don't think it would make a significant difference. It's not like a global announcement needs to be made saying, "The forum rating has been changed from G to PG-13" as that would obviously have negative effects. I simply do not like the hypocrisy in falsely saying this is a G-rated forum, yet having the reality of a PG-13 forum. Even PG is more realistic than G. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Hawks
With what Tripsis said above, many PG movies these days use damn and other words... Actually Harry Potter and the Prisioner of Azkaban is rated PG and there's a decent amount of swearing in that. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube

Adam007
This asinine "what constitutes G-ratings" idea just won't go away ever since OT changed its policy on inappropriate threads. Instead of trying to define what's G-rated, why not just remove wherever it's written that the forums are G-rated in the first place? So many people are getting worked up about semantics here. Instead just draw one simple line. Content is either suitable or unsuitable for minors. If it's unsuitable for minors, it's not allowed here. Tip it isn't a movie. Get rid of wherever the "G-rating" name came from. It only confuses people and leads to really dumb discussions.
Kill_Life
Just because it isn't censored doesn't mean you have to use it in a negative way. Example: My [wagon] hurts. Why censoring it to 'bottoms'. It's the same thing... That way, 'bottoms' should be censored aswell. I wonder how many people say 'My bottoms hurt' in real life. As for 'damn', I don't really see what's so bad about it. It isn't really used as a swear imo. As for 'bastard'. No idea actually... I guess you can use it as 'lucky bastard'? If anything inappropriate gets posted, it will be removed or editted out by a Moderator. jemathonical
To be honest I really could not care what the rating is. All the time someone says that we should change to PG-13 or M or G-8 or something but really, what difference would it make? Would it help a few people sleep easier at night knowing that their forums follow MPAA standards or something. And I am surprised mlb that you are offended by this, considering you browse /b/. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
The Observer
Nah, I think it should change to PG or PG-13. I mean, if we stayed at G, we would be just like the RSOF. But not only that, but users don't like to be bubble-wrapped with a double layer of cushions and an airbag system.

I'm offended by this because I can't post some of things I see on /b/ because of the "G" rating. For the record, I completely disagree with that reasoning. My argument is not that the rating should be changed in order to allow more "mature content," but that our current rules do not match our G-rating. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Danno385
I am curently 12 years old (although the people I talk to on runescape that don't disagree with me on my strong opions think I am 14. I told them I am 12 they just won't belive it...). I half been playing runescape since I was 10 and I have been on tip.it since I was 11. Personaly I did not know that you have to be 13 to join and It must not have been enforced when I joined speaking of tip.it. Runescape I knew I was breaking the rule . Although thats a lie you can be under 13 and join you just are resticed to useing quick chat. My opion on this is that everything should stay the same as for the face G rating and being able to say all that you can. Although I find bastard ofencive most of the time when it is used and realy on this tip.it forum do we need to be talking about if our parents are married? "the well of the damned." damned really means killed. so in school we were making jokes of the words using their real meaning, and teh teachers couldent o anything about it because there was'nt anything bad about it. if you joined before the age limit was imposed, I'm sure you got used to the people here. Teens use those words quite often, so as long as the recipient is'nt offended, It's rather ok. Death should not be taken as 'the end,' but a very effective way to cut down taxes. Myweponsg00d
Ironically enough, there is no official system of ratings that say "A G-rated FORUM must...." etc etc. If this were a movie, then the guideline would make sense. But, as it is written in the forum rules, the "G rating" is just a turn of phrase and is not meant to be taken literally. There is no official ratings board meant to keep track of online forums and give them letter ratings; the phrase "G-rated" means just to be on your best behaviour at all times and not to post porn or other inappropriate material. Don't forget that you have to be 13 to sign up, and also to play Runescape. Need assistance in any of these skills? dsavi
The second statement isn't true anymore, if you sign up with your age set to below 13 it only allows you in the quickchat-only worlds. Pretty creepy IMO.
