Some achievement capes not that "special" anymore.

Featured Replies

Some people say that going for 99 just for the cape is sad or stupid. I got 99 Defence because I MHed a lot, Slayed a lot and yes I liked the look of the cape. I think different people have different reasons for getting a 99, and people should stop judging every 99 Cooker/Fletcher they see just because they are common capes.

Thank you dude! I love you now <3: some guy posted on my blog accusing me of getting 99 Fletch just for the cape. I didn't really care about the skillcape. It's just a cape that about 70K people have. I did it because I really enjoy the skill and I had a lot of fun getting it to 99 (yes rofl, I enjoy fletching about 5 hours a day. Shoot me.) Honestly, I'm sick of people assuming I did it for the cape because some noob lvl 85's wanted a skillcape to look "awesome".

Out of the 70,000 people with a fletching skillcape, ask how many like the skill. About 69,000 of them will say they hated it. You have to search up to rank 1000 to see people with more than 13M exp. and I reckon, if you enjoy a skill, you will just keep training it. I'm not making much sense probably, but yeah I'm sure you get what I mean. Only a small handful of people actually enjoy getting 99 Fletch/Cook, and those people are given a bad image with all the other noobs.

Well for me i see capes as suggested goals to challenge myself. I started going for and got my quest cape in 4 days. I then(much later) got 99 cooking from 90 in 3 days. It wasn't for the cape so much as the challenging myself to get it done.

but all in all some skill capes are more praised in my eyes, it has to do with: the look of the cape, the effort put in, and what type of person normally wears that cape.

what i mean is that prize slayer more than rc because of the looks even though i find rc harder. I also prize a untrimmed fletching or cooking cape more than a str cape. why? because is someone has 99 cooking or fletching as their first cape they are most likely a newer member and i dont expect them to have 99 slayer or rc, but even though str is harder i find that people who get it as their first are obsessed with str and str only just trying to hit high, most of these people are younger and have no patience for skills or their 67 attack and 54 def level as it seems too.

I do find that people with 99 strength usually are obsessed with hitting high. A kid at school got 99 strength and was so up himself, saying "I'll KO you all hahaha". Has like 70 attack and 70 defence. My friend PvP'ed with him and just took all his [cabbage] now all he has a d hally and bandos chest, which he didnt lose in PvP. Im still  about that ::'

The only cape that is "easy" to get IMO is Quest Cape, you just follow instructions online, unless you did all quests yourself, then it should be considered a huge achievement to that person. Sure getting all the requirements takes time, but they are a lot easier than 1 level 99.

Achievement capes sure are not as special anymore, and RS is nothing like back in say, 05, when Total level is what mattere the most. Still, even fletching takes at least 70 hours to get a 99, which is still a lot of time.

I'm going to get skillcapes that are little more special. My first 99 will be what I want to level, Strength. Why? I hate the skill and want it to be my untrimmed. After that Attack

Sure I could SPEND money to get a cool cape, but I'd rather profit off of one, even if it takes more time.

All in all, I think they're all just as special as the next. Just remember, you had to make the money before you could buy them :)

Me, I would say firemaking, fletching, and possibly woodcutting and cooking (but not really)

im kinda curious as to why u mention wcing but i just feel every skill is an acheivement as long as you enjoyed the road to the end.

its not the destination but the road traveled that should be enjoyed.

i personally loved cooking since i could afk rather easily with no risk... and fletching because it was easy to gain money for the longest time and you could afk alot.

if your grinding for any skill and you find yourself saying im almost there and i wont ever have to do this skill again... you shouldnt be doing it in the first place for it is a waste.

so if you find yourself not enjoying it even if it is something you usually want to do take a break, the cape will still be there to earn when you return.

98% Of teenagers surround their minds with rap music, if you're part of the 2% that stayed with rock, put this in your signature, ROCK IS BETTER!

I think that the reason that some capes are not viewed as special anymore is because the players themselves treat the capes with contempt. I'm sure everyone has heard at some point 'Whats the quickest 99?' or 'I want an easy 99'. Many players want an easy option rather than going specifically for a cape that they want.

I don't have 99 firemaking, cooking or fletch. I don't want the capes either as I'd never wear any of them. Regardless in what posters have been saying I don't view the easy option as a success or an achievement. Give me something like a slayer cape or a mining cape over a firemaking/cooking/fletch cape any day.

Something special is usually something that is rare or unique. Some skills capes are not so special anymore because there are so many players with those running around.

I used to view the fire cape as something special, not anymore because I see a lot of players running around with them. Sure getting a 99 is an achievement, it does not means it is special though.

And to Bauke suggesting 99 cooking requires about the same time/effort as 70 RC...I have to agree with this.

I rate the skillcapes based on different factors for buyable/non-buyable skills:

For buyables, cost is a huge one, I value construction/herblore capes far greater than say cooking/fm.

For non-buyables, time and repetitiveness(sp?) is what I look at, something hard I would think is Slayer/Farming/RC/Agil, compared to others like strength, fletch (it profits, so I'm putting it here) and to a lesser extent, wc and fishing. Thieving/hunter I put in the middle, because while it's fast, it's still relatively hard.

One last thing I look at is how many people have achieved 99 in that skill. Currently, Construction and RC have the least people with less than 3k, but strength/cooking/fletch have over 50k! And for people who think 99 cooking is in the same level as say 99 RC, then you are mistaken.

Staurolite.png

I agree with you All, except farming is a buyable. Sure you can view it like RC when you only do herbs run and mid lvls trees and fruit trees, but you can only get in the high gear when going for the high profile seeds.

Buying farming takes ALOT of money and still quite a bit of time, as you have to wait for trees to grow. Magic tree seeds are 200k/ea, and the payment is 15k for 15 coconuts, get where I'm going? ;)

Staurolite.png

Yeah don't worry, I tried both ways to trian farming, I know what you mean. It's currently even more expensive than 15k payment (25 coconuts @ 1.1k each these days).

I was just pointing out it was a buyable skill, but more in the range that construction can be bought (at a huge loss).

I want 99 smithing cause I found out how much I like it...

And if I really didn't like smithing, I wouldn't train it for 6 months and counting just to get the skillcape...plus pure f2p...no possibility of skill cape :c

I agree though, too many people want 99s for the cape. Which shows on the hi-scores when you get to 99, then jump up rank in the hi-scores when you get like 200k more xp after that...

Although I guess a lot of people stopped training afterwards anyways, regardless of skillcapes...still they made a large impact...

I got 99s for easy total levels.

I got a Fletch cape and I like it.

You shouldn't get a 99 just because you like the cape.

In my opinion you get a 99 just because you like the skill or you're really good at the skill, not because of some cape.

but see, many people get 99s for the cape, and the majority of scapers are like that. you rarely find a person who truly loves the skill they are getting the 99 in, and that includes the harder ones. many see it as a status symbol, forgetting what it should really mean (which is that youve dedicated your time to that skill because you like it, not a 99,000 gp cape)
