Lap
What do you guys think? I'll explain, before skillcapes, not many people wanted 99 firemaking, there really was no reason for it, and my friend has 99 firemaking before the cape update, and was very disheartened at all of the new people just doing it for a skillcape. So, what achievement capes do you guys think arent really an achievement anymore? Me, I would say firemaking, fletching, and possibly woodcutting and cooking (but not really) 45,657th to 99 Range 29/09/09 , 41,018th to 99 Mage 13/11/09__________________
Alg
If you think it's an achievement, it's an achievement. If you don't think it is because someone else has it, you really need a new definition of an achievement. All I can say for now. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr

Frankly they aren't impressive but they ARE 99s. Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again
dutchphoenix
I got a Fletch cape and I like it. You shouldn't get a 99 just because you like the cape. In my opinion you get a 99 just because you like the skill or you're really good at the skill, not because of some cape.
DieselX
Before the skillcapes, there wasn't many people with 99s. After skillcapes, OMG MUST GET 99! :P In an ideal Runescape, people would only get 99 because they like the skill. But srsly, who would do the same thing over and over again for weeks and enjoy doing that? Not many. Most people do it for the cape only. I guess that now if you want to do something special, you have to do something else than getting 99 in a skill.

But if you got a cape that not many people got before achievement capes, and after the update a lot of people got the same cape, do you think your achievement is worse then before the update? DieselX
It's basically the same, except you're pissed because a bunch of idiots decided to get the same 99 as you and for the wrong reasons.
Zierro
The main reason that a lot of people started racing for skill capes was to stand out. Now since every bank is flooded with them, they don't stand out anymore. But that's only taking into account what others (the average RS player) think... and honestly, who cares? Like Local said, as long as you think so then that's all that matters. I've always had the goal of getting all 99's the first day I started RS. No matter how many other people achieved that, I'll still be proud if I reach it one day.
Deathmath
It is for the cape AND a sense of achievement, even though some are pretty common. Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again
Mylez
Naturally there is a hierarchy for the less common skill capes, and naturally the easier 99's to achieve will attract certain flaming/hating by individuals who think they're better for whatever reason. I get it all the time, for having an un-trimmed cooking cape. I'm seen as a "noob" etc. What matters is, I know the effort that I put into obtaining my cape, and reaching my goal. My friends realise this, and they are the only people I care about really (when it comes to opinions regarding Rs) ;)
123_x_pac
People think the fm,cooking, and fletching capes are nooby cause soo many people have them. I personally took the time to decide wether or not to spend 2m on willows for 99fm. I have cause I like the skill. People should get a cape cause they like they skill, not to feel special. Your not special if you bought the cape just to have it. Mylez
Quest isn't that rare. Mining, Runecrafting and Slayer are much rarer :D

Hoobs
All are achievements, that's my opinion. Some simply take longer to achieve. My F2P Skiller's Blog |TFS- A 100% F2P Clan

Its an achievment to get any cape as long as you like the skill. Absolutely correct. If you get a 99, any 99, it doesn't matter whether you get slayer, summoning, runecrafting, or any of the skills considered "hard" for a skillcape, you are a fool. Leveling skills was meant to be enjoyable. Not some stupid grindfest all for a cape.
vettro
Hey. A 99 is a 99. Enough said. 13 million xp isn't easy. So what if some people want the cool capes, they did the work. To say that any skill cape isn't special is crazy.

Gin_and_Tonic
I was the 4,000th person to achieve 99 Fletching about 5 months before the capes... Within about 6 months, another 11k more people had it... Fletching had been around for years, and i genuinely loved the skill... But eventually i stopped wearing the cape altogether as i didn't see it as much of a personal achievement. I believe skill capes were possibly one of the worst updates in Runescape - they completed messed up the entire economy, not to mention the long term effects of pro-longed scapin' to get a cape. SirHartlar
Some people say that going for 99 just for the cape is sad or stupid. I got 99 Defence because I MHed a lot, Slayed a lot and yes I liked the look of the cape. I think different people have different reasons for getting a 99, and people should stop judging every 99 Cooker/Fletcher they see just because they are common capes. Mylez
Although common, the rarest of the capes are owned by around 50,000 or less people. That's still rather rare, taking into consideration the millions of accounts out there. I love my cooking cape, and worked hard for it. I will hopefully replace it with a trimmed Hunter cape one day, that's my goal anyway :twss:
ACCOUNTKIL-ASDFAF12312FAF1
Your suggested skills are what i believe to be 'non-repected' but does it really matter what other people think. Just be proud of your achieve ment and ignore everyone who says that your achievement is bad.
drapit
Every 99 attained as an achievement. If it isn't, explain why isn't half the RuneScape population running around with an achievement cape tugging in the wind. I have a cooking cape. It's one of those, in your opinion, not so special capes. I still don it on proudly behind my back. Aside the fact that it keeps the chilling northern winds out, it's a trophy to show how much time and effort I've put into cooking. It's similar for every skill. Regardless of whether it can or cannot be 'bought', you'll still have to cook shark after shark, cut bow after bow and probably tire your eyes out in front of the computer before finally achieving a 99. Sumpta
Same old discussion. Today I got up half an hour earlier than usual. For me, that's quite an achievement. I'm not going to whine all day at work because none of my colleages, who arrive easily an hour before me, thought it was "special" I was there half an hour earlier. Cooking, firemaking, fletching, thieving and what have you capes are definitely achievements, but they're not "special" anymore because so many people achieved getting them and getting even better ones. I have a fletching 99 and a slayer 99, sorry, but they're just not on the same level. That doesn't change the fact that the achievement capes really messed up our views on skilling, economy and RS gameplay in general though.
