Newspapers/Media- Anyone have a favorite?

Featured Replies

Well, it seems to me that everyone has a favorite source of news, whether it be a newspaper or a radio station or a news site. I myself listen a lot to NPR, which is as politically unbiased as you can be while still covering everything. As in, if it was conservatively biased they would probably avoid more controversial topics. I also listen to a channel in Swedish which I won't go into details about as it would probably bore the crap out of you.

As for a newspaper, nobody's going to know what the newspaper I read is and could probably just as well skip this.

I read the Hufvudstadsbladet, the Finnish-Swedish national-scale newspaper in Finland. I find it usually to be filled with interesting news relevant to me, I suppose that and the comics is why I read it.

Wikinews is a good source on the internet, if I really need to know.

Anyone else have a favorite newspaper/radio station/news site/news channel/other?

And while we're at it, why?

I think that sums up the British press pretty accurately.

I hate The Sun so much, it's just a joke of a paper.

I went into a newsagent's once, and picked up The Daily Telegraph. At the same time some big burly builder was grabbing a copy of The Sun.

My god he gave me an evil look.

I could tell he was thinking how much of a snob I was with my education and middle class background.

It was ok though because I was thinking, 'yeah, my house has three toilets and my dad drives a beamer'.

Australian news is fairly unbiased on the whole. I'd say the ABC (the Aussie equivalent of the BBC) is the best bet for no nonsense, fact based news.

Having said that, it's always critical to get news from multiple sources. A search on google news usually comes up with multiple sources for the same story, so you can browse at your leisure to find where the truth lies.

There's no doubt that the British tabloids are shocking, but I like our broadsheets. Generally I read The Times, but I can make do with The Guardian.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

For the dutch readers:

Sometimes I read my parents' 'De Gelderlander',

but I read 'Spits' alot too because I get that paper for free. (You can grab it for free at the train stations)

http://www.nu.nl is a nice news website too.

I find the Daily Mail to be the last bastion of truth, honesty and common sense left in the British Isles, informing the public of the truth that the government doesnt want you to be released. Only be adhering to the principles espoused in this frankly godlike paper can the problems of the UK be truly solved

/sarcasm, the daily mail is a rag, I wouldn't wrap my fish and chips in it

Yeah, I've heard about how awful The Sun is. I detest tabloids like that, they shouldn't have so much influence.

Person A gets married to Person B, Who cares? And is it even our buisness?

Person C forgets a certain peice of important clothing, which becomes evident when she steps out of a car. That's her problem.

I could go on for paragraphs about how stupid their gossiping crap is. But I won't.

I've found that reading newspapers actually winds me up more than it informs me on the negative attitudes of people around me. Or maybe that's because it actually does both.

I usually only use the BBC, which is widely regarded as an impartial broadcaster. I'm more than capable of making an opinion by myself without some editor telling me to believe his/her usually sensationalist point of view. If I do read a newspaper, it's usually The Times though.

As for the Sun, need I remind people of Hillsborough?

I tend to read the BBC news website usually. I also read Time Magazine for a while to get an American perspective, although my subscription ran out. Also I read /. to get tech news, have a nice left-wing rant, and mostly to read the commentary. Google also suggests news that it thinks might be interesting to me, so sometimes I end up on other random websites.

Mmm.. are you sure that this doesn't just say more about you? Maybe it was nothing to do with class, maybe he just thought that you were a right-wing nutjob (an understandable position given your choice of newspaper) :P

Meh, my dad gets the Australian, the Courier Mail, the Townsville Bulletin (Regional Paper), and the Northern Miner (Local paper). I just read through them all, don't really have a favourite.

I don't mean to question your authority, but if it has words on the TIF censor, how can you justify putting it here? If a normal user posted it here, it would be removed for swearing. Just putting that out there.

C2b6gs7.png

Swearing is against the rules if it is serious and is targeted against a user. That's why we allow the use of 'crap' or other minor swear words when someone posts a general comment. I personally wouldn't remove something like this, I've seen other videos posted with swearing it them. If it was major swearage then I would, but I feel my video isn't exactly high on the scale, and there are like 2 swear words in there, which I don't believe are that bad, and emphasize the point.

If someone does find it offensive then I'll gladly remove it.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Hahaha, I forgot the onion. It's about as trustworthy as Conservapedia, and even funnier! Yeah, it's good for a laugh.

I liked that one they had on 3rd World luxury perfume, (That came in a heavy-duty plastic 1 gallon bottle) which only cost like $200 per ounce! How affordable.

C2b6gs7.png

Heh, call me ignorant and stupid but all the satire shows and news places are where I get my education on current events. The Onion, The Daily Show, Colbert report... I usually can't stand other news channels. I have to have my humor when I learn of an economic crisis or presidential debate.

Brass Eye is the absolute king of media satire. Chris Morris is such a genius.

Well my town's local newspaper actually covers a lot of global events, but I also read the BBC and CNN website. I listen to the Ann Arbor Michigan Radio station, which is basically NPR.

The Onion has a very special place in my heart, mainly because along with The Onion, I am also from Wisconsin; the greatest state in the U.S.A.

If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.

Agreed, Brass Eye is supreme in the world of media satire.

But I sometimes like to read The Sun, mainly for the totally random articles.

You know, I don't want to start a big argument over this, especially since I was just banned for a week for calling someone "Hypo-sensitive" but didn't some Admins (in particular Turtlefemm) Crackdown on EVERYTHING on off-topic, because you can't post pictures, videos or blocks of text with swearing, innuedos, references or anything even slightly amusing, even if you do warn people with any sort of disclaimer...

It's like someone saying "No, you can't do that, but we can because we're bigger then you"

I wonder if the secret police of tip.it will remove this post like they did last time I pointed something like this out
