The Observer
Hey! I am late choosing a science project topic and I want to ask you for ideas for it. :-# Oh, and this could also function as a discussion thread for your past science project topics. EDIT: I need to have a project based on a "How does ______ affect ______?" question to get full marks.
Lordjake
Back in like 5th grade, I fed plants with a variety of items to see how well they fared. I think I used motor oil, water, root beer, and some other stuff. The next year I think I made some type of microphone/telephone using an electromagnet. Kaphias
What's the area you're looking in? Structure? Electricity? Biology? And do you have to answer a "How does ______ affect ______?" question, or can you just make something? 8,325th to 99 Firemaking 3/9/08 | 44,811th to 99 Cooking 7/16/084,968th to 99 Farming 10/9/09 | Runescaper August 2005-March 2010Tip.it Mod Feb. 2008-Sep. 2008 | Tip.it Crew Sep. 2008-Nov. 2009

It's recommended that I do a "How does _____ affect _____?" question as if I do a study, I won't get high marks.

warri0r45
I like the second one there Lenin. Genious. I remember doing something similar to Lordjake in biology back in school, except mine was just different concentrations of salt from memory. Then I think I did something similar except with different volumes of water. It sounds so boring in retrospect. I suppose those kind of things were just a simple excercise in scientific experimentation by keeping variables in check while changing one. warren211
http://www.sciencebuddies.org The site name sounds like it's for 5th graders, but it has rather complex experiments for higher grade levels too. There's a science topic wizard tool where you answer a few questions about your experiment and it displays the most relevant experiments based on your interests, due date, subject, and grade level. Very useful : [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. Cup Lion
For my 7th grade science project, to put it in the format yours has to be in, I did: How does time affect the physical state of different types of cheese? To say the least, I wasn't going for complexity or something interesting. Just something to get me full credit. ;) |Signature by Jason321|

Giordano
"How does the lack of air affect your brain?" Hah, I remember a kid suggesting that once in 9th grade. His exact words were a bit different, but you get the idea. :P "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." pryomancer
How does sugar solution stength solution affect osmosis? I did that in Year 10. Basically you get x amount of bits of raw potato, all the same size. Weigh them. Sumerge each one in a sugar solution, each one in a different strength solution from pure water to 100% sugar solution. After a week, take them out, dry them a bit to get the excess water off, and weigh them. Then compare the data of before and after to see how much water has been drawn out due to osmosis. Although this experiment is on the biology gcse curriculum, so it's probably a bad idea to copy it.

thrash-boy
how does different air/fuel mixtures affect the combustion of various flammable products in a spud gun what to do: 1. get a can of several flammable things in a can (eg deodorant/hairspray) 2. make a spud gun (if you haven't already) 3. with each spray, spray different amounts of whatever it is in the chamber, screw the lid on quick and light it up. measure the distance the gun fires the spud/tennis ball etc 4. have some fun 5. do something so you will get some marks, such as work out how much stuff is coming out the end of the nozzle and how big the chamber is so you can get the air/fuel mixture ratio and then work out what ratio makes the spud fly the furthest distance NOTE: make sure the spud gun is positioned on the same angle each fire, using a spud/ball of the same weight and shape, and its not raining or the wind is blowing (which could effect it)

assassin_696
Funny you should mention these, I have to make a decision fairly soon about my choice of experiment for my A-level physics coursework. So far i'm thinking about looking into the Bernoulli Effect (how does velocity affect fluid pressure) or Boyle's Law (heat). I was looking at maybe doing something about turbulent flow within fluid systems but I don't really want to be solving second order differential equations for coursework. warren211
How does Mentos affect Diet Coke? I did that last year. 4 other kids in my class did it too (and we were a small class). Luckily our teacher was the dumbest science teacher to ever walk the face of the earth, she just checked to see if it was done and we got 100% for originality anyways. I really reccomend you don't do the Diet coke/Mentos thing, it's way too unoriginal (is that a word?)
