Gears of War 2

Featured Replies

Gears of War 2 is predicted to be the hottest seller this christmas,

but apart from it being a sequel to Gears (1); what else do we know about it?

I was a big fan of Gears 1, and i played and won several competitions along with my doubles partner and clan. But I never buy games based on hype ever since R6V2.

So what can you tell me about Gears 2?

Are you going to get it?

What are the main changes to multiplayer?

Do you care about the storyline (what little there is of one)?

Discuss ::'

I can't tell you about SP too much, but I heard it was supposed to be better than the first one in those terms.

MP got some major changes since they actually focused on it this time around. The shotgun is more consistent, the netcoding is better but still not as good as games like COD4. Much more focus on lancer fights now with the addition of stopping power. You can use downed players as "meatshields," you can tear cover off the ground and move to another part of the map.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Like Vegas 2 .. More of an expansion pack.

This well be gears one with chainsaw duels flame thrower and horde battle thing.

I'm not really in a position to say much, since I only briefly played GOW1.

But to me, the character movement seemed.. clunky.

If they fix it in GOW2 that will be cool. Also I remember seeing a video about its development, and they demo'd how you can shoot anything and destroy most of the scenery. It was pretty cool.

Also the water physics looks very realistic.

Yeah. Thats true- the movement was clunky and 'sticky' so hopefully they upgrade that.

And related to that the actual character movements weren't always synchronised with the animations.

So even if the head looked as if it was on the floor in midroll the head would actually be at roughly crouched heiht above the centre of the person. You had to learn some really wierd spots where the head would actually be despite the animation.

This game looks great. Too bad i don't have a 360. (Waits for it to come on PC)

^You'll have a pretty long wait then.

Anyway, can't wait for this game, been waiting for it ever since i played GOW.

I hope this games campaign is harder then the first. My second time ever playing, I slept over at my friends house and we beat the entire co-op campaign on Insane that night.

It's not coming out for PC. I'll find a link if you want it.

I just hope they don't map everything to the [bleep]ing A button again.

I totally want to get this game when it comes out. And, I should totally get the Gold Lancer.

Yeah .. I'm buying collectors just for the gold lancer.

God, special stuff is awsome ;)

The marketing for GoW and GoW2 is possibly the best in the business. They pick the perfect time to release it both times; near the holiday season, and awhile after all other big-name, AAA titles come out, so people are getting bored of H3, COD4, etc.

I'm getting it just because COD4 and H3 really did get dull awhile back.

It's not coming for PC, according to the developers, PC gamers either have a Dell [cabbage]box or know how to use torrents so yeah, big generalization there... (can't find the article, but if you google you could probably find it)

Dammit, they kept online achievements in. Also, 100,000 kills is a bit much... I'm hoping you can get in campaign.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Good, that'll make it be a lot easier, plus Horde will make it much easier. I'm sure there's a level where all you do is mow down enemies with a Gatling.

 I was a little dissapointed that they kept so many offline achievements in.

I don't particularly like achievements (because people obsess with them so much) especially when they are easy to get. In general, offline achievements are disgustingly easy, so they count for very little in my eyes.

With online achievements, even though they are still fairly easy (most of them), you atleast have to beat real players who think fairly sophisticatedly insetad of just pointing and shooting at half-wit AI.

I've only found 2 achievements on the (many) games that I play that i think are really worth getting.

Shadowrun- Godlike

Kill all enemies without taking any damage yourself.

Gears of War- Seriously

Kill 10,000 enemies in multiplayer.

So basically I don't like it when people just denote good games like Gears into 'just another way to get achievement points without working for them'.

Maybe went abit OTT with that rant but hey.

Heres where you shot yourself in the foot.

A huge chunk of online achievables are:

Glitchable

Boostable.

Take them two and in your eyes most achivs mean NOTHING.
