cat666
OK so I am pretty close to 99 strength which I will get within 2 weeks. I train with a Sara Sword via slayer only so once I get 99 it poses a problem on Waterfiend tasks as ideally I want all my XP focused into Def or Attack and a whip has no crush option. Basically I need to know what the other options are for Waterfiends. I've heard Zammy spear is used a lot and also God Swords. Do these have a crush option? and if so whats it train? A Zammy Spear is in my price range but the God Sword isn't, even when I sell the Sara Sword I still have better use for the cash and cannot really justify the 20mil for the sake of Waterfiends. Foooman
Zamorak Spear has a crush option which is Controlled. Godswords have a crush option that trains strength. You could use a Verac's flail which has both an accurate and defensive crush option, but I will advise against it. It's just far inferior to your other options. D Jay99
Train your strength at waterfiends with an ss on crush, then slay with a whip for attack/melee xp? I can't think of a weapon that has a decent crush attack + att/def option.
Exodus_Flesh
Dragon Mace has an Attack, Strength, and Defense training style on it. It isn't as slow as you may think. It gives a +5 Prayer bonus, is One handed (allows for prayer book, another +5 prayer bonus), and has a decent attack/strength bonus.. Give it a try before you say no. It works quite well there. ~Zackdt
ilovecardj
When i get 99 str with ss, I will be using zammy spear on controlled for waterfiend tasks to get defense exp. It is definately the correct choice Dragon Drops: 80+ boots, 7 med, 3 skirt, 2 left half, 2 Spear, 2 2hSlayer: 30+ whips, 4 Bows, 1 Mask, 3 Granite Legs, 1 Visage (Wyverns)Notable GWD Splits: Bandos Tassets: 12, Bandos Chest: 11, Bandos Hilt: 2Proud Slayer of 99 Att/Str/Def/HP/Range/Summoning

I can't think of a weapon that has a decent crush attack + att/def option. You misunderstood. I'm training slayer period. However currently I am training strength via slayer so Waterfiends are cool when I get assigned them. However when I do hit 99 strength and get a Waterfiend task I don't want to "waste" XP by still using a SS and just adding to the 99 strength. I'd rather be able to train def or attack efficiently but I guess there's no serious option. Will have to do some digging. Trust the Gene Genie! Exodus_Flesh
When i get 99 str with ss, I will be using zammy spear on controlled for waterfiend tasks to get defense exp. It is definately the correct choice For training purposes (Defense wise, not HP or Summoning). It would be much smarter to use another weapon with strictly a defense option, as it will more than double the rate of your defense training.. That's the only reason I suggested he try a Dragon mace, as he's in the same situation as you. You misunderstood. I'm training slayer period. And for only slayer training there, try it for a trip and test it out youself on your next task. ~Zackdt
ilovecardj
you will get twice as fast kills with spear over mace or possibly even more. thats similar exp rates per hour, but you finish task twice as fast. d mace is horrible at fiends i mean hoooooorible. ss kills 2 times faster, and zammy spear is faster then ss And in the goal of 99 slayer, he will be over 99 in each melee skill, so its not more efficient... Yeah speed is still of the essence. If Zammy Spear is comparable to SS then I will use that no issue. Not going to surrender speed over XP and use a mace, rather stick to SS and lose out. You are overexaggerating the speed of the SS/ZS. The Mace is only slightly slower, and deals slightly less damage, not even close to "half". With either a Mace and Prayer book (+10 Prayer) or Rune Defender (+78 Attack and +65 Strength, as well as the +5 Prayer), he'll be getting close to the same stats as both Spear and Sword anyways. And even if he were to go for 99 Slayer, he is trying to efficiently train his defense, as compared to more unneccessary experience in strength.. EDIT: SS and Z Spear are the same speed. If losing out on the defense XP is more worth faster Slayer XP, then just go for the SS/ZS. I thought you were just trying to get the best defense XP as possible, which was my arguement. ~Zackdt
ilovecardj
Use the spear you will kill 6 fiends with the spear when you kill 5 with the ss, plus you gain that small amount of defense exp to go with it. Sell the Sarasword at 99 str as has lost its uses, and buy the zammy spear =] Dragon Drops: 80+ boots, 7 med, 3 skirt, 2 left half, 2 Spear, 2 2hSlayer: 30+ whips, 4 Bows, 1 Mask, 3 Granite Legs, 1 Visage (Wyverns)Notable GWD Splits: Bandos Tassets: 12, Bandos Chest: 11, Bandos Hilt: 2Proud Slayer of 99 Att/Str/Def/HP/Range/Summoning

obfuscator
unfortuately, you will have to continue to use the ss if you want to be at all practical. a little extra str xp cant hurt too much can it? :P "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

Cat, I wouldn't worry about being assigned Waterfiends - I slay all the time & I've still never been assigned them (I have completed Barbarian training) !! If however, you are fortunate not to be stuck in 'The Duradel Loop' & do actually get assigend Waterfiends i'd try to invest in a Zammy Spear (although the price is still rising), as this is the fastest 'Crush' weapon out there. Use this to speed through task & then revert to Whip / Rune Def combo for Att / Def training.

Troacctid
I think the best crush weapon for training against waterfiends in Accurate mode is the Barrelchest Anchor, but tbh the Zammy Spear is just better, so you should just go with defensive or controlled. RayOxide
*ready for flame* Obsidian maul and berserker necklace  Though its slow it probably owns at your level. The spear would be great on waterfiends, but not for you cause you want 99, and controlled would just slow it down by... well, quite a bit. I dont need a siggy no moar.
