Unpopularity of PvP worlds

As someone else said, 1 iteming isn't a big problem in f2p worlds. You can't kill anything unless you're target is 40 levels below you, and even then you'd need bind or something to stop them from running. Genuine 1 iteming is rarely seen besides some noobs who are angry that they got killed and come back to wreak whatever havoc they can with a rune scimmy. The only thing about f2p pking is it's very hard to KO someone because of the lack of own rune weapons possess. The 2h is decent, but can easily be survived. The dds is a major problem for members. 4 specs and poison and a good speed makes it excellent for quick, hard damage.

 

 

 

Fortunately, the DDS is really inaccurate. Unfortunately, the AGS is cheap enough that the "middle-class" player can afford one... So many players 1 item with Armadyl Godswords now, which are FAR more accurate and lethal than a DDS.

 

 

 

The biggest thing that bothers me about f2p PKing is that there is no Tele-Block. Otherwise, it's far superior to P2P PKing as far as fun factor. Although PKing in P2P is more profitable in general than F2P, I equate it to gambling in a casino. Most people lose more than they gain, due to the randomness of both the combat system and the drop system. You have to both get lucky with your hits/specials AND get lucky with the drop system in order to turn a profit. At least, in F2p, one of those variables is eliminated. Due to the absurdly strong weapons in P2P and the presence of special attacks, there is really no skill involved in winning a DM. All it comes down to is who chains a series of 35+ hits and follows it up with a good special. It's ALL luck. In F2p, the winner (assuming neither person teleports) will more likely be the one with better stats.

I became f2p recently and really enjoy f2p pvp. With clans at least, there's less noobage besides the occasional bser who can be easily taken care of if you're in the right clan. So all I do is clan pking with one of those 24/7 pickup clans that you can come and go as you wish. It's rather entertaining. I was tempted to become a member again because if f2p was so fun, members must be awesome. Looking at this thread, it's probably best to keep my f2p if all I'm going to do is pvp. I remember the old wilderness how the good pkers would pk and the 1 itemers would watch and wait for a death and stand on the loot waiting for it to appear, and when a real pker kills another real pker and remains with less than half hp some desperate dds'er comes and specs him. So really it didn't get much worse, but it's just that it spread.

Of course the worst part would come out of those 1 itemers who sabotage the actual PKers, and then run off with their mage ammy and str pot (1) loot.

 

 

 

I've seen less and less of the actual dm PKers left in-game, and only the lvl 50- adamant armored PKers, the lvl 45 pures in iron armor/monk and the 1 itemers are growing.

I've been enjoying open worlds for my training. Spiders in the stronghold of security are a good example. I got in an hour or so of training by myself there this morning, a spot that almost always has 4 or more on a regular world. Edgeville level 2 men, deserted, perfect for training a pure. Yew trees are mostly open, willows have one or two people there. I'm yet to check out the mining guild, crafting guild, etc but I doubt it's all that crowded.

 

 

 

That being said, PvP worlds don't serve their intended purpose all that well. Getting out of a fight just takes clicking teleport. Running to a safe zone and closing a door saves you.

 

 

 

In my opinion, you shouldn't be able to teleport if you're skulled and safe zones should only be safe if you weren't involved in a fight before running into them.
