lordkafei
Of course you can't use an artist's music without permission. Look at it this way. If I wanted to download some MP3s, I could just go to YouTube and download RuneScape videos and then strip off the audio (an easy thing to do with software). Voila! I've trafficked in bootleg music while pretending to be interested in how to one-hit {Lumbridge goblins|hobgoblins|corporeal beasts|whatever}. Putting copyrighted songs in videos just makes it easier to traffic them and that's why video-sharing sites pull them down. killerbeer0
Well at first one of mine it said jagex claimed the right to the video and have requested it to be taken down, just a prewarning to all people who like to vid their drops at godwars etc to not put music on ;) Note that the music was the reason. So it was the record company which signed Papa Roach that got it taken down. You fail. EDIT: And anyone who blames Jagex (they have nothing to do with this instance) or YouTube (they're simply doing what they're legally obligated to do) fails too. OH S***! He/she/it is back!
InkofDeath
YouTube has a new program that goes and scans videos for identical or similar audio files in an upload. If one matches it blocks it because third parties have said to block this ,and YouTube wants to keep these third parties happy. That's why they get blocked on upload. Then again gaming videos are a very high copyright infringement hotspot, so really you have a good 10 people just searching through gaming videos to find copyrighted music. Though YouTube doesn't do much if you appeal it, but enable your video again.
salim123
You should just dispute the claim. Say you bought the song and you gave credit to the particular artist. Problem should be resolved in a day.No not at all. If someone has been taken down due to a DCMA request then you can't even make an appeal for 10 days even if the claim was fake or without merit. I don't believe you when you say you have had videos put back on after saying you had the rights. Those of us that know how the DMCA works know you are bsing. Okay, I'm kind of sorry I posted this now. :? I'm just saying that 2 of my videos got taken off for copyright issues by Breaking Benjamin and I got them back by disputing. Edit: I found the dispute claim on my account. This video was removed for about a day and this got it back :? thats the way to do it :P And jagex did not take it off, if they did it would say that Jagex is stating this claim (to all others outthere) Salim123's 99 Strength Party Today!!! la la la
Good. I hate when I watch a video on youtube and I hear some blaring junk you can barely call music that the video maker adds on needlessly. Really, I watched the video to study the jad moves or see your best drops, not hear some loud, vulgar metal song about killing everything.
Triquos
Hmm I remember watching some TV program about the owner of Youtube saying it didn't cross his mind about copyrighted material and that it got out of hand in some stages later on with big companies. Maybe they're toughening up on it now so they don't get massive lawsuits about it in the future? Either way, it's almost impossible to keep up with the world with uploaded videos and copyright stuff. I think as long as you give everything and everyone credit it'll be ok
Shadiochao
Use music from Runescape itself then? Can't believe you didn't think of that before skipping to suggesting no music at all. And it's not like I watch Runescape videos anyway, but when I did watch a few, there was like 5 different songs that were in 97% of the videos. Nenga
I had that problem with a video containing phone home by lil wayne. Not my personal choice so i'm kind of glad I got blocked. I replaced it with papercut by linkin park. Ponies!
Jard_Y_Dooku
Like merci said before, you don't buy the song. You can only buy the right to listen to it, not distribute UNLESS you happen to be a radio station, music channel or a library. Then you can get the version that's distributing WITH LIMITS isn't prohibited. However, if the creator of the song has been dead for 70 years then the copyright claims are invalid and the music becomes free to distribute by anyone. There are also alot of bands that don't copyright their music so they are free to use on videos and such. And i do believe that covers are a gray zone. In theory you can make covers of songs if the artist specifically hasn't prohibited it but not sure how they would work on this matter. Or you can use their awesome library for free music. :D Oops, I guess I broke the law then. I listened to a few songs on the radio today and didn't buy the rights to listen to them. Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.Nothing is safe from the jaws of the decompiler.
SwimmyTheDuck
So errm, what does this have to do with Jagex? Thats Youtube that took it off. not Jagex Well at first one of mine it said jagex claimed the right to the video and have requested it to be taken down, just a prewarning to all people who like to vid their drops at godwars etc to not put music on ;) Did you remember to put in a Disclaimer? Artists get royalty money for each time a song is played on the radio (specifically, I believe it's the songwriters who get paid, not the entire band). They don't get paid when songs are shared on the net, either as downloads or as soundtracks to other people's video. TANKSTA
The best way to keep you're video from being removed is to have a disclaimer. It might help.
crazykiwi
Oops, I guess I broke the law then. I listened to a few songs on the radio today and didn't buy the rights to listen to them. You weren't the one distributing the music, the radio station was, and they did buy the rights to distribute the music over the radio waves. You paid for it by listening to the ads on the radio station. If you recorded the radio station and then gave people copies/put it on the internet then you'd be breaking the law. crazykiwi - http://www.rsdrop.com
Mercifull
The best way to keep you're video from being removed is to have a disclaimer. It might help. Not true. The only way to keep your video safe from removal is to use royalty free music or pay the fees required to licence a song. You cant claim fair use if you play the whole song in its entirety. Reztral
Jagex owns all images and such from Runescape, so if they do request a video of Runescape to be taken down, they have every right to do so. Same thing with musicians. --8727th person to achieve 99 Fishing on 8/19/2008----6012th person to achieve 99 Thieving on 10/12/2008--R.I.P. totalpwnage
If you put a disclaimer in the descriptions of videos, they don't get taken down. Just copy it from someone like sosolid2kk or chiszle or w/e and put in the description and give the person credit who you copied it too. Make sure you note that you're not using the video or music for any profit and you should be good. though... I didn't really put any disclaimers on my videos yet so... and a few of them are lure videos from people I know (yeah I know some lurers, so what -.-)... no pray jad with the purple sweets thing (which I loled when they posted about that on the in other news on HD updates), etcetera... I haven't had a single video removed yet. So idk. Started free trade with 1.5m cash. 2 weeks later, have hit max cash 2x. It might take longer for someone to report you with a disclaimer but if someone does your video WILL be removed. If you are using licensed music without express permission you are breaking the law.
