Racism: Acceptable the other way?

I go off everytime a black guy calls me craka or white boy. I tell them thats rasict and 90% of the time i get:

pisses me off.

That's fair enough to describe those people as celebrating dominance, but, if done respectfully, there is nothing wrong with being proud of your roots.

 

No of course not, for example as a briton, i can easily be proud of my roots in terms of engineering and science, britain has a great history of that

 

Yes, you do have to go back a long time to find an represive black culture, but that is due to circumstance, not the nature of black people: there haven't been any dominant countries or world powers of primarily black people in a long time. I may be wrong, but it seems as if you are saying that white culture is, by defintion, prejudice. Prejudice is a part of human nature, though culture can emphasise it.

 

Nope, white culture is of course, not by definition prejudiced, theres no difference between white and black in those terms, all I'm saying is that the history, particularly over the last couple of hundred years of both groups is very different, and because of that its a lot easier for a black man to be proud of his cultural heritage, I personally find very little of my own heritage to celebrate, and I find it impossible to feel an overarching love for the culture that spawned me, I can merely be proud of certain elements within that culture (such as admiring its engineering/invention).

 

Yes, European culture was racist, and is becoming less so, but it was more the position of power that European culture had that gave rise to racism, not the nature of its culture.

 

If black nations had been in world power, they would have been no different; racism is human nature.

 

Of course racism and prejudice is part of any persons life and we must all fight against that part of our nature striving to treat people equally. The thing is that Black nations weren't in power and we are judged on our actions, not things which didnt happen. We, the white man, went round the world and enslaved and dominated practically every culture we could find, this is something we as descendants of that culture must never forget and we bear a heavy burden from it, to ensure that that never happens again.

Not exactly. I've seen things such as, "Tears of Joy Stream from the Faces of the Black Community" in newspapers and whatnot. Obama isn't even black! Plus, he has no birth certificate.

depends whether or not people are just being sloppy with language here, its more likely that the guy meant he hates racism, which is not a prejudice but an understandable dislike of an intellectual concept. Which is subtly different to hating a group of people.

The fundamental difference white people seem to miss is that there is no such thing as "white culture". Of course, you could count going to Africa and rounding up black teenage boys, shipping them to America in awful conditions and then whipping them into work as 'culture', but it's not really attractive.

 

 

 

Black pride is a celebration of the culture that developed during their time as slaves, and the difficulty they faced gaining civil rights thereafter.

Everyone has had struggles similar to black people, theirs was just most recent. We don't have a Jewish History Month, and they were enslaved by Africans for a very long time.

 

We don't even have a Black History Month. We're just taught that limiting opportunities to anyone based on race is wrong, hence why when Gordon Brown used the term "British jobs for British workers" there were one or two raised eyebrows over its implied meaning.

 

 

 

As far as Jews are concerned, they really do get a lot of sympathy, especially when it comes to WWII. We get taught rather vigorously about the Holocaust. Along with only 30,000 Britons during the Blitz, they're emphasised as the 'main victims' in our slanted view of the War. Nothing about the millions of Soviets, Frenchmen or Italians who lost their lives fighting the Nazis. Nothing about the Maquis resistance. Nothing about the Spanish socialists and republicans who died trying to stop fascism.

 

 

 

If you want to enter education into this debate, we could go on for an eternity. Education has to be provided by someone, and they will always have a biased view no matter how impartial they try to be. As far as BHM is concerned, I'll agree. The way it's named is horrible. But its main point is still correct - all races deserve equal opportunities in the Free world.

That's my point. That the idea of racism is stupid. Why not just get along with each other and stop giving a [cabbage] about skin color. Celebrate cultures of places instead of races.

White culture is the feeling of being left out in this big racial encomium that we face today. We all have our reasons.

 

 

 

If there is black pride but there can't be white pride then that means there is a one-way street going on here. To be honest, I think we'd all be better off if the whole concept of "race" disappeared. But that's way too idealist I suppose.
