What would be the best incentive...

To keep updating members.

I'm not joking, It must be some sort of incentive to keep seeing Members get updates numerous times a month, and being able to read about what is available to them if they pay the price.

Not only that but the entire "restrictions" seen in F2P compared to P2P, I guess, would all account as an incentive for people to join.

In general, the fact that EVERYTHING in F2P is larger, more complex, and more 'fun' in P2P. Everyone has their own incentive to play RS, and it is up to them to find the one that suits them most to upgrade. No one can really tell you a specific answer, unless you say.. Free money for upgrading to P2P. But think about it now, that won't really happen (nor would Jagex allow it, seeing as it is Real World Trading).

PKing can be seen is a "Larger" and "More Fun" on F2P.

- There are more people who PK F2P (All those F2P PKers who don't have a choice of P2P, and P2P who prefer F2P PvP)

- There's a better developed meta-game, and it's more easily enforced (Since the max hit is a whopping 30 or so, it's fairly easy to just leave if you don't want to fight. No ancient, teleport block, snare, or entangle helps too.)

- The amount you risk to have optimal gear is lower. If you're only PKing for fun, you can be using the "best" equipment at only a 300k or so risk.

Many skills also don't really change much. Mining, for example. Other than powermining granite, and a few rune rocks here and there in completely out of the way places, mining doesn't see much benefit from switching to P2P. Smithing doesn't see much benefit either, since hardly anyone makes arrow tips / dart tips / spears / hastas / silly things like that anyways. Blast Furnace is alright, but training it the old fashioned way is just as fast. Cooking is usually just one more dish of every type. The food is better, yes, but the skill is pretty much the same.

People f2p pk because it is smaller.

P2p pking is epic and alot of people can't handle it, whilst f2p pking is simplistic and good for beginners.

Jagex figured it out already. Its a dual pronged strategy of continues members updates combined with f2p teasers. I am not joking, that is by far the most effective strategy to date, and I belive that teh teasers are a bigger factor in pushing people 'over the edge' than extra content can ever be.

F2p teasers include:

Type 1: A sample of members only content

-Holiday events with a tatste of members content (the chochatrice ring any bells?)

Type 2: Activities where members get extra

-Holiday events with extra members rewards

-The duel arena

-The member only sections of skills

Type 3: In your face members content in free play areas

-Varrock Achievemt Diary

-Varrock Museum

-Members dedicated section of Varrock

-Agility obsticales in free areas

-The borders of f2p and p2p

-The gnome coptors

-Stealing creation

That is by no means an exustive list. The above combined with continued members updates is the most effective strategy I can think of, and also the one that brought me to members (specificly the Museum put me over the edge).

true, you see a lot of new members pop up when members get a big update. Especially with a new skill, like when construction came out you would see a lot of f2p'ers getting members

Don't forget when Jagex hocked up the price of mems, they extended it for a week to get f2p to p2p..

Jagex is always sneaking in bread crumb updates with secret ways to push F2Pers into subscribing. Others, like Gnomecopters, are very direct and advertising members is their only use.

I'd have to say that the best "incentive" would be to keep updating the members game, like others said. When F2Pers see a new skill/mini-game/quest released they are very likely to go for a subsciption to try the new game content out.

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

Honestly I dont know. I only f2p for like a month then began paying. I looked at what was on offer through the site and thought.. Lets become a member! Its so cheap! Better xp and gold and whatever etc etc.. I wanted to see what was past that gate. Its a price of a drink! Why am I wasting my time in this mining guild fighting bots and over crowded areas when members would show me the way!

I think anyway that shows off members ingame on f2p servers.

That summoning quest is near fala gate. Maybe put a npc with a summoning familer there who you can chat to and does something funky showing off summoning.

I must note that a big reason before for becoming members for me was the bots in f2p lol. Bring back the bots =p That helped me decide to become a member.. :P

what about a free 5 day trial of being a member? Every f2p account gets 1 trial that can be used whenever the owner of the account wishes.

This would just be more of a burden on the highscores server, F2P players trying to get a certain P2P level in 5 days, then create and new account and do it again. Making thousands of new F2P accounts just for a 1 time try at saying, "I got so and so level in P2P in 5 days on an F2P account"

How about after they reach a certain total level

900 - 5 days

1000 - 5 days

1100 - 5 days

1200 - 5 days

1300 - 5 days

1400 - 5 days

The Wintumber Tree released way back in 2006 was a VERY sneaky way to get people a one time only item if they paid for membership.

I would love it if they added a pet reindeer as a members only christmas reward this year.

The best incentive to get f2p players to subscribe to members would be to completely remove f2p in its entirety. This would force them to make the decision of getting members or quit. While some would quit due to not being able to pay or simply not wanting to pay, many would undoubtedly subscribe.

If they removed it ENTIRELY they could never get new members.

I'd stay F2P because of bots... it was so fun to find a group of them... report them and kill them using hobgoblins, muggers etc.

Plus, maybe I defy logic here, but none of the afore mentioned ideas seem to want to make me members, maybe its the fact that I'm not very attached to the game (no offence intended to members or anyone else)

1 to change the lightbulb and the rest to complain about how the first one was better
