InkofDeath
However long ago we switched board versions, this was one issue, and there was tons of feedback that it should get fixed. I'm probably not the only one to have clicked a link, then exited the tab because I'm used to: 1) All forums have a general standard to open it in a new tab/window, thus I would 'assume' the same here. 2) Old forums gave a hyperlink, so I'm used to it anyways. Why hasn't this been addressed? I can only imagine how many users are getting freaking annoyed from it, and it's such a small little thing as well. I think Errdoth posted something that would have fixed it, or it was someone else, but c'mon, it's one of those things that should have been fixed within a month of the switch. Also it's putting the forums behind forums like RSC, RuneHq & such. I don't know of a single forum, or site that doesn't hyperlink links when it's not putting you through the site map. It's way too old fashioned, or there's no reason for it. I'm talking about links users post, not every single link, but user links in posts. Just wanting to know where the admins are at with this, or when they plan on doing something about it.
dsavi
Sure, I can imagine that would be annoying. But a middle click in most browsers opens it in a new tab, right? If not it's probably just a template change.

Vape
The target attribute (the part of html (or website code)) which is used to specify that a link is to open in a new window, has been depreciated in xhtml (the next version of html.) This is because it should be up to the USER to decide how links open, not the website. For links you want to open in a new window, try shift-clicking, or middle clicking. Don't go trying to force this idealism on others. It really is not that hard to use that middle button. Heck, I use tabbing like crazy while logged onto Tip.It Forums. :) ~Mr. D. V. Unless the browser is some super-messed-up 'p.o.s.', then there is always that right-click option. ;) Heck, those who are not educated about PCs/Browsers/etc. really need to learn already. :? ~D. V. Cowman_133
~D. V. "He's got ya there..." Devnull No, he doesn't have him there. I would not want to be told to right click. Truth be told, that would be extremely annoying. I would prefer it opens a new tab personally, but as long as I have a mouse with a scroll wheel I'm happy. If I didn't, I'd want this changed quite badly.

Far from it! I've used laptops without a middle button, or for that matter any form of mouse gesturing, and the right click is absolutely no hassle to me at all! In fact, I welcome the right-click of mice and touchpads, because of that nifty context-sensitive menu that always pops up to greet me and allow me as a user to make choices based on what I need and/or want. To be very honest, if I didn't have the middle-click, it wouldn't kill me. It would only be if the right-click disappeared that I would get a bit cranky. Then again, I can just kill any "right-click killer" scripts thrown at me. (Gotta love those FireFox Options! ...) You'd have to make it so I didn't have a physical right-click to get on my nerves that badly... : Sure, if we can all agree on how to add to the UCP of the forum, then we could have an option to force links into a new window. (Unluckily, forcing to a new tab is not possible, unless you're combining with your browser options.) Wouldn't be an option I'd need/use, and I'd have it turned off, but at least it would be there. However, I will be forever '100% against' any forced changes on all users in regard to this manner. :ugeek: ~D. V. "I like directing browser content to the tab I need/want..." Those mice without middle and/or right buttons won't die until Apple kills them off. <*remembers the mac mice and the horrible design*> If they have died already, please tell me... I'd like to have no more nightmares with them. So, where would everyone want to place that toggle switch in the UCP? Global Settings? Display Options? Input, please? :anxious: ~D. V. dsavi
I think that it would be in UCP -> Board prefrences -> Display options. But hold your horses, nobody has written a mod yet. Although I could look into it.
InkofDeath
DVD; Not everyone is optimistic or liking the interfaces that 'pop out at them', you need to keep in mind that your experiences are not similar with others, so reasoning with your own experiences isn't too great, especially when you have experienced computer knowledge on some level, as compared to those who only know how computers work in a general basis. This is where the lack of user comfort comes from in this forum. I would like to 'assume' that most of those that post in this forum have either a great intellect, or have a greater knowledge than those with computers. Thus it's not such a simple thing when you look at a newbie windows/mac/computer user, who can't even make a simple program that can display pascals triangle with any value. Also it would probably be Display or Board Options, or whatever it's called. Though would like to hear from Peter if he can do it, or find a script in a reasonable time to do it.
