49K per hour with melee? Seriously? I thought armored zombie were 100K xp and 170K profit? That would put melee ahead of mage and in comparison to ranged, you would have to value money vs xp.

99 range = 13m XP. 99 mage = 13m XP. 99 melee = 26m XP. I am currently not aware of any way to get 100k attack and 100k strength XP in an hour from Armored Zombies, and a combination of the two (armored + some zombie monkies) for a break-even cost is still barely 55k per hour.

i only think that range and mage are underpowered in f2p..and the main reason for this is str pots. cant get range pots in free 2play..any decent player wouldnt dream of pvp without pots,well in f2p anyway. course this problem isnt an issue in p2p : and u really cant say mage sucks...hello?? ancients? psstt.. :shock:

F2p range is dominant.

i know lol..im a ranger just got mem so im used 2 f2p..im just saying that str pots give melee an unfair level advancement over magers and rangers in f2p

it can win fights, but it can't hit high enough for a KO like melee

 

 

 

range max ftp= 18 (i think)

 

 

 

melee max ftp= 34-35ish

 

 

 

melee gets rune too, if a ranger tries to wear a rune helm and legs i find his accuracy shot due to the low range bonuses from green dragonhide and maple shortbow.

Too late. FTP melee has already been killed, see the thread on it. Melee max at 89 combat = a lot less then range max. Why are you comparing a maxed meleer with 1.5x the combat to a maxed ranger?

See my thread. Range has a max hit almost identical to melee at the level, only it's far faster, more accurate, and cheaper. Head over there if you'd like to be proven wrong, I'll take all comers on that thread.

The reason mage is considered to be underpowered in P2P is because of its costs. It is underpowered for its cost, when compared to the other combat styles. If cost is not factored in, then IMO, all the classes are balanced (in a way).

I can make well over 1,000,000 GP in an hour. I earned over 100 million in the past week. I could care less about the cost; I would use the same spells if they cost 10 times as much. The cost is NOTHING for high level players. And cost or no cost, mage DOMINATES. Zuriel's staff is Jagex's gift to mage. I've used it. It's epic. Melee at ANY level in ANY gear stands no chance whatsoever.

In PVP and for training its very cheap, Smart alchs are reasonably fast xp with minimal loss, making tabs actually make money, but are significantly slower than alching.

 

 

 

In PVP i would much rather pay for 300k worth of runes, and some reasonably cheap mage armor than meleers, who can pay millions for godswords, claws, and other expensive gear, of course the basic whip/defender is fairly cheap, its still not that much more expensive than a mages gear.

 

 

 

The only place i see where mage is very inefficient is in safe minigames (castle wars, soul wars, blown tons of runes on these) and in monster hunting, because in general, you can kill monsters far more efficiently with range/melee than with mage.

Just saying, you have to take into account all levels, not just the very high levels when talking about how powerful/not powerful mage is.

Yes, but we're talking about maxed players. Most maxed players tend to be high levels, and are generally not dirt-poor. So arguing that mage costs such and such an hour and is therefore pointless is incredibly near sighted and wrong.
