Watch them lock this topic also!

Why WOULDN'T they lock this topic?

All it is, is spam.

I wonder why they will lock this?

Maybe because it's a pointless topic...

It's not completely pointless, no; though this topic would be locked, and understandable so.

HOWEVER, the author does make a good point. especially lately, certain mods have been locking a large number of decent (even if they aren't enlightening and amazing) topics under the umbrella rule of "spam." This is a modding policy I disagree with, and maybe we could discuss it with the moderators and administrators in a constructive manner to help jointly make the forums a better place.

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

You talk too much... Please dont spam... :?

Yes, they do lock too many topics. But why not just PM your feeling to the mods instead of making a stupid lockable topic that will inevitabely be locked, and at least there will be good reasoning behind it...

Maybe if you suck ups would take into account what Mad has said, you'd realise what you could make this topic. A DEBATE!

A much needed one about locking posts, the one recently that got me was GSW locking a post about movies saying there's been too many or something. Yet if someone brung up a dead topic and added onto it, it'd be locked. Also who is he to say there's been too many, maybe it'd be nice for the newer people to see a topic about movies?

The reason why so many old posts get locked when someone posts on them is because they usually dont have anything extra to add. When you have an old topic and then someone posts 3 months later and says "lol yeah" then its obviously going to be locked for bumping a dead topic. If its a long discussion like some of the religeon threads have been they are brought from the grave many times over because the people that reply post a detailed message.

Yes I do think that perhaps too much locking goes on but a majority of the threads deserve it. We get so many "whats your favourite movie/band etc" and "" posts they just get annoying after a while or cause flaming.

Perhaps a discussion about the future of off topic could be arranged with a few admins and mods in the irc room or something? Afterall Off Topic wouldnt exist without us lot.

Saying that Off-Topic wouldn't exist without you lot is a little bit big headed is it not? Considering that it existed well before most of you made it your "home". You know back when we were all still scrapping around on Runescape General, before P2P was there and before half the boards were there. When most staff were still battling it out between themselves with flames flying everywhere. Wow.. Okay back on-topic. In off-topic.

Also I've seen moderators close a thread just because the date it was posted was more than 1 month ago. Not for the spam of a "lol yeah" might I add. No, just because it's "old and pointless".

Also repetition on forums that don't allow old posts to be ressurected by any means apart from posting an essay is going to happen. There's no stopping that sort of thing, the reason that you see it as a repost is you're here all the time. You can't tell by the amount of posts you have either.

Someone said I am making this Topic because one of my Topics was locked...but I have noticed that some competely normal Topics have been locked, and for no reason really....

Most of the topics made nowadays are stupid, and hence they get locked. but look at the amount of topics (some of which are stupid) that dont get locked. there is plenty to talk about on those topics. i havent noticed any topics lately that have been locked that shouldnt have been.

q8tsigindy500fan.jpg

indy500fanan9.jpg

There are a lot of trigger happy mods around here but over half the topics locked have due cause. Suppose you have a point when you say a lot of topics are locked needlessley but maybe you should convey your views a little better in future.

logo.jpg

I have become disgusted lately with the ammount of useless drivel that goes on in off-topic. We have a chat room, I know there are other chat-rooms that people can go to. This isn't a chat-room.

As to a mod's decision on locking topics. You are always free to send that moderator a private message if you you didn't understand the decision, or want more explanation. Or you can pm that mod, another mod, or an admin, if you want to complain.

IRKAa.jpg

I think the mods do a fine job.

It's usually not the topics that get lost, just the idiots that post within them. Look at those religion ones. Perfectly reasonable and interesting subject, ruined by people's flaming.

You can always talk to a mod if you have an issue with post locking.

Blink why don't you find 10 topics, 5 useful ones that have been locked and 5 stupid ones that haven't. Post them here first so we can debate on their content. Then you can send the post to an administrator to see what their answer is.

Exactly.

Blink, you weren't the first one to think this way.

Does anyone remember that "Woman" person that got everyone so worked up?

Or that "Homeworkclub" guy?

See, those guys were annoying at first and their topics got locked like yours.

But they learned eventually. :? Now everyone forgot about it...

I was banned for a week because of her for "hateful flaming." I asked why she didn't think to post knitting related questions in the other two knitting topics she started in offtopic, both of which were unlocked. 2 weeks later i returned to find multiple private messages from her suggesting that i should "ram my replies up my [wagon]" and im "a total f*cking idiot." What happened? Nout. Hooray for justice!

Him, strangely enough.

On topic, this isn't my forum; it belongs to the admins, and they've appointed the mods to run it. I don't always agree with them; in fact, I've disagreed with several of the topics they've locked, and I think they've left several open that should have been locked. But like I said, it's not my forum, so I don't have much right to tell them what to do. Now, if one of them makes a really bad judgement call, in my opinion, then I'd be sure to PM him/her about it, but I don't complain in general.

theres a few topics that could have been decent that was closed, but mostly i agree with decisions made by mods.

this forum is a bit like an accellerated version of whats happening in the US/Australia at the moment. something happens, someone sues, and all of a sudden nobody is allowed to do that certain thing.

the only difference is the "something" isnt happening and nobody is sueing anybody.

topics are being locked because a mod thinks no more good can come out of them or a question can be answered, why is everyone so worried about someones postcount going up? every post shouldnt have to be a thought out essay.

in my oppinion tip.it has too many rules which seemingly only serve the point of familiarizing mods with the lock/delete button.

im struggling how to explain what i mean..

would you rather go over to a mates place and have a chat or would you rather go to say a board meeting to discuss something.

ill probably get banned for saying this, one of the mods didnt take it well last time i posted something like this. anybody want to time how long this post lasts?

The locking of topics IS needed..

BUT!

What I hate is when I want to post in a 4 month old topic to add to it, but if I post in it I will get in trouble and they will lock it or tell me off for resurrecting an old post.

Fair enough..

But when I make a new topic about the same thing instead of posting on the 4 month old one, they also tell me off for making a new topic when an old one exists! It confuses me greatly, it's like once the topic is posted and left for months you can never talk about it again!
