runevirage
Recently with the new Fremennik diary update, people who have completed all the hard tasks will be able to sell their flatpack furniture to Advisor Ghrim at GE market price. Flatpack furniture can be made at a work bench outside of building mode, and you'll receive all of the xp that you would in building mode. The main problem with this of course, is that GE market prices are abysmally low compared to the cost of the materials to make the flatpacks. However, if flatpack values on the GE somehow migrate close to the construction costs, then we could be looking at a much cheaper method of leveling construction. Particularly with the opulent table, which is a somewhat common clue scroll reward, everybody would win since the builders would have an extremely fast way to level construction while minimizing costs, and people who do treasure trails will finally be getting a decent reward for their efforts if the opulent table's GE price (~5.5k at the moment) matched its construction price (~1.2M). So today when I checked up the history for opulent table, I found something very interesting. In the past 30 days, starting November 11, opulent table has gone up 92%, and has grown nearly 15% in the past week alone. Before this however, it was a dead rock in the GE, unsellable, and often falling. Now the strange thing about this is, the Fremennik diary update has only been out for a couple days, and even if someone had thought of this on day one, we wouldn't be seeing the effects this early. But not only that, the effects had already started taking place at least a month ago, which means someone must've known about the reward and its ramifications for quite some time. The only people that could've known this are the people close to Jagex. Also, opulent tables used to flood the GE, now they are unbuyable at maximum price (meaning they must've all been bought up). Now, I don't want to throw out wild accusations, but do you think it may be possible that some Jagex employees/mods, knowing of this update early on, used their own personal accounts to take advantage/are taking advantage of the update, and getting an early start on what could be a very lucrative investment? Laura
I could be possible that Jagex manipulated that market themselves. Or, perhaps you are onto something.

Seraphi
really doubt that jagex personal accounts would use their foresight to abuse future updates, as it pretty much kills the point of them having personal accounts, they want the same experiences as ordinary players... Madmanpur3
I really don't see how buying out opulent tables before anyone else gets a chance to would benefit anyone....because it's not like they can buy them at 5.5k each and sell for 1.2m each. :wall: The only way this could profit for them is if they somehow managed to get the prices of opulent tables up over 1.2 mill, and from 5.5k it's going to take a hell of a long time. On the other hand, I could see a group of merchants trying to raise the price of a certain flatpack up over it's cost of materials and then profiting that way... Personally I don't think Jagex put much foresight into this reward. Personally I don't think Jagex put much foresight into this reward. If you drive up the price, you can then sell them at the price that they eventually arrive at. By this I mean that you need to buy a certain ammount at 5.5k each before they can rise higher. Then by the time you get the price up to 500k+ each you still have all the hundreds of tables you paid a real low price for. But...did they take opulent tables out of clues? I haven't had one in a long while, and this might be the underlying cause. Need assistance in any of these skills? G_P_Kid
Same with granite. Granite (5kg) had no use whatsoever. It was like 6gp in the ge and for about a month it started rising all the way to 14gp (with no use for the item) and boom Jagex shot it up by 300,000% or so and whoever bought all the granite just made 300,000% profit on what they spent. jettrider
Whatever happened to "all prices are entirely determined by the players' supply and demand"? Never trust another political claim again, ever The GE's mechanics don't allow for quick price changes. Jagex's real-time intervention prevents price disasters due to new updates from happening (for the most part). I don't support price floors or ceilings, but prices should be set at new updates and then be allowed to roam. 2496 Completionist
mister_moocky
If he does indeed buy flatpacks for market price, then it would make sense for people to buy X item at max, increasing the price, and making con profitable. However, opulent tables don't seem like a likely candidate. quit
Master_Smither
Well I imagine they are doing it since all my flatpack furniture sold for max todays from my noob clues. But I am going to quote myself from another thread and show a method of construction that is currently profitable. Some great advice about construction It is funny to watch all the complaints on forums about the Fremmenik lvl 3 reward. So far it is the most generous achievement award to date. It is true that majority of flatpacks were devalued as a result of the treasure trail expansion. Thus, the materials cost is way higher than the trade in value at Advisor Grimm. But, what about those flatpacks that are not TT rewards? Marble cape racks, marble wardrobes, even the magic cape rack? Well, a cursory glance at the GE prices reveals that their value is indeed higher than the materials cost, thus creating the possiblity for profit. Now, profit has been gone from Construction for quite a while now, so the lvl 3 award is a very generous boon to players with high level construction. (It reminds me of the advantage given to crafters when the karamja gloves came out - all of a sudden, the cost on an uncut onyx was almost halved when one traded in obby weapons while wearing the gloves. That meant that high level crafters could make 2-3 million profit per fury made). But back to the issue at hand. At the moment, any lvl 84 construction worker can drink tea and use a saw to make marble cape racks - the profit adds up to about 50k per inventory after the trade with grimm A lvl 90 construction worker can make marble wardrobes and bump the profit to 20k per item or about 500k per inventory traded to Grimm. Similarly, at lvl 93, construction worker can make magic cape racks and trade them at about 25k profit or about 600k+ per load. This is serious money, and on top of it, it is tied to the supply and demand charts on the GE. (Meaning that it is here to stay because there is no market for flatpacks...) What the fremmy reward also means, is that people can train for the first time with serious qua****** of marble or magic stones. They can be purchased easily in Keldagrim, money permitting of course. So. It is incredible that people are complaining about the reward. It is about the biggest boost that construction can get! Furthermore, the relationship between GE price and Grimm's pay mans that flatpacks could rise and become profitable in relation to their component materials in the future. What surprises me about this update is only the following: given my suspicion that the lvl 3 fremmy reward was made most likely as a sink for all the low value flat packs that currently fuel the junk trading second economy, why extend that sink to high value flatpacks as well. This creates inflationary pressure on the rs economy that might offset the initial gains. On the other hand, this could be just Jagex's way of 'priming the pump' in a Keynesian sense in order to stimulate the economic slump. If that is the case, maybe Jagex finally heard all the complaints on forums and hired an economics advisor. That would be a riot In any case, what do you guys think of this astounding situation? Is it a turn to a more active management of the economy by Jagex? I'd love some mod clarification on this as well, but given the recent silence on significant matters, i am not hopeful. too da loo. Eddo89
There is always some form of market manipulation from Jagex. But it all to do with updates. If Jagex truly want millions on their own account they can just put a few codes to their characters. But all in all, it is to the best interest of PLAYERS to increase the price of flatpack as it it essentially can cause construction to be PROFITABLE. Furthermore, the relationship between GE price and Grimm's pay mans that flatpacks could rise and become profitable in relation to their component materials in the future. This is the most important thing. Essentially, with Grimm buying at MID-PRICE, it literally eliminates the possibility of price fall, if we assume that, all sellers of flatpacks are knowledgeable. This does not mean Construction will be more accessible to the lower level, planks may rise along with flatpacks due to affordability. Key thing is, there is a ceiling for Oak plank and nothing belong mid-price for flatpacks. All in all, with some player manipulation, you can level construction without major costs. The obvious candidate for the most price increase is anything that gives the uttermost experience. And if I'm current, Opulent Table is the highest experience giver of a flatpack item hence it is obvious candidate. Other items may give more XP per inventory space, but Opulent table has a relatively low level requirement. Templar GuardiansWhen are trying to lend something, the word to use is borrow. It's because Opulent Tables dropped to a price so low that tons of people wanted to put them in their POH's for only 4k or whatever their price is rather than paying 800k or w/e for the materials. When something costs 1/200th of what it should, you can count on people demanding a lot of said item, therefore running the price back up.
