Poopingman Posted December 26, 2008 Share Posted December 26, 2008 8 years. Has it really been that long? I've been playing this game since before some of the current players were even born. As this prominent milestone approaches a handful of players and myself in the coming months I can't help but sit back and observe in awe how important Runescape has been to my life over the past near-decade. As I have grown from a confused adolescent gamer into an aspiring college student and musician, so has Runescape matured itself. Even after all this time, I have no difficulty drawing from my memory the first few times I played Runescape, and the instant grasp it had on me. Consisting of 2-3 servers of just a few hundred players, nobody, not even Gower, could have predicted the evolution that would ultimately bring us to where we are today: over a hundred servers with over a million active accounts. Sure, the superb graphics we are spoiled with today contrast strongly against the basic 3D renders of Runescape "Classic"; but as each new player heads down the dirt path out of Lumbridge, the feeling will always be the same. The journey hasn't been an entirely smooth ride, however. Who can forget the auto-bot oppression of last year, with waves of mindless drones taking over specific skills and turning the market upside down? Or how about the Miniclip scandal, where mismanaged advertising led to the conception of a mindless 10 year-old stereotype that is still widely regarded as your average Runesape player to this day? As much of a laugh-off as Runescape may be to your more "civilized" MMO savant, I couldn't think of a more addictive and fitting game to have spent my teenage years with. Heres to 8 more. I was in middle school, seems like a life time ago but was only about 4 or 5 years ago (I dont remember exactly when it was). RS has been a good influence in my life ever since. I have so many fond memories of "rsc" I could probably fill out a small book. It is ridiculous how much Runescape has influenced my life, even though I didn't constantly play for those years I can't begin to imagine how different my life would be had a member of my Age of Empires 2 clan not shown me this game. To this day whenever I hear old linkin park songs I just picture my runescape character with a blue shirt and white shorts walking around near falador or varrock because at the time that was what I almost always listened to while playing runescape. I don't mean to sound like one of those "I started before you, I'm bettert han you" people.. but people who started in 2003 or later and especially those who started with rs2 really have absolutely no idea what they missed. Back in the day there was an insanely overpriced peice of armor, which only a few had, and those who had it, didnt use it, in fear of loosing it! Today... Same thing lol Back in the day, go anywhere, and get PK'ed... Today, same thing! Runescape hasnt been without its, oh god why moments, miniclip was probably one of the most painful times for me, and I think also it was even more insane for us Pmods, who were driving the poor Jmods insane! Infact I think at one stage, there was a good few days wait for mutes and reports to be checked! where as now its within minutes! Runecraft too, sheesh that skills taken so damn long to get finished! from only a few runes, and no abyss, to now all runes! finally! Sad too all those who we have seen fall in runescape, gone to are so many older players who back then made the game what it is today! Heres to the good memorys! 8 more years!
