Dragons_Might
Basically I need to choose between AGS and SGS Mainly for Finishing off my last 11 stength levels, and then for use at GWD (Bandos mainly), and random other monster hunting, along with Clan wars sometimes for fun. Now I know I probably will get alot of SGS answers, but I keep leaning towards AGS. The question is, if SGS is definitally better, is it better by a large enough margin, or are they both fine? And also, if i do buy AGS, is it really worth it? the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming. 635th to 99 Farming 12/16/
toast647
If you're 88 summoning then just get an AGS. AGS is a lot of fun, but you do hit a lot of bad specs ;[ Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool
compfreak847
For bandos: It's sort of a toss up, AGS spec does very little to help (as much as half a regular hit), and you don't usually need SGS too much. For random monster hunting: SGS wins. For training: SGS wins. For PVP: SGS wins, badly, in any no food fight. Do the math. toast647
I think he's talking about rushing people for max hits or something. AGS is a lot of fun at clan wars Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool
Dragons_Might
Eh.. both make me still unsure. To the 88 summon coment, I plan to have 79 (Titans) which are still good healers. And if it matters for the hunting, I will have maxed melee by then, and also be at bandos/zammy, most likely tanking. (which is normally where people say SGS right there.. but still i never find my specials are highly useful tanking..) the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming. 635th to 99 Farming 12/16/

Inuashakent
I'd HIGHLY suggest you use an SS to train Strength, and not a Godsword. For Bandos, AGS helps a lot to prevent crashers... so I'd definetely choose the AGS for Bandos, but Saradomin for the rest. AGS is more fun to use in PvP though. (which is normally where people say SGS right there.. but still i never find my specials are highly useful tanking..) In that case, SGS wins by far - spec the minions, and you can't use a titan while tanking. For overall PVP, SGS wins; if you want to mess around with maxing, borrow an AGS, but it's no good for the general PVP. purewcnub
Although AGS can hit fairly high it's inaccurate and the SGS special replenishes hitpoints and prayer depending on your hit. Goals: 94 magic94 ranged55 slayerAddy gloves-done

Lacross
No matter what one you get, there is almost always someone looking to trade ags for sgs on the armor forums, or vice versa. You could just swap back and forth depending on what you want. I have a sgs though and I love it. Don't go sounding off about how amazing it is, it's HALF as good as SGS for PKing. asianboy7o7
i suggest neither and to get a bgs eww cheap and weak bgs spec is so hard to hit and its 100% drain compared to 50% on ags and sgs
Patr1ck
I had an Ags for a few days, It was fun for the first few days and then I realized just how much more useful the Sgs is. You say you're going to use titans to heal, but they definitely won't keep your health up the whole time monster hunting. Take dk's for example, instead of guthans + a titan and having a few brews in your inventory an Sgs + titan allows you to get more of a prayer bonus using veracs and allows you to replace a lot of your brews with restores. It's all a matter of personal preference, but there's my 2 cents.
cat666
I used Sara Sword for strength. In theory it's faster XP than any GS as it's the speed of a whip so if whip is better than a GS for training then SS could be too. For Bandos, I heard the best GS is the BGS as it provides immunity. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't waste the cash on the AGS, or SGS when you can easily suffice with the cheaper variants. Trust the Gene Genie! Miner52289
For someone like me with high combat stats, SGS is the greatest thing I've yet to own in this game. For some of my slayer tasks I don't even need a bunyip anymore cuz the healing I get from SGS specs heals not only a ton of health, but also more prayer points that you can use protect from (combat) with. The special bar fills up pretty quick and often time it heals too much for me :o and it's very practical in many different places (except pvp where AGS is better) Slayer DropsDragon Chainbody (dust devil), Dragon Platelegs x2, Dragon Plateskirt x3, Dragon Boots x38, Dragon Med Helm x5, Dragon Spear x3, Shield Left Half x4Staff of Light x2, Abyssal Whip x16, Dark Bow x17, Granite Maul x17, Focus Sight, Hexcrest x2, Black Mask x4, Leaf-bladed Sword, Mystic x31, Obsidian x13, Brine Sabre x2, Spirit Shield, Dragonstone x5

Sure it hits harder than a whip, but you can do 3 hits with a whip in 2 for a GS. You can't use a shield/defender. It's mega expensive. Couple that with the fact you can heal with Bunyip/Guthans on most monsters it's only real use is the prayer recharge which given it's price tag just isn't worth it. Trust the Gene Genie! vettro
It's mega expensive. He could always sell it. . . . I would totally go for the SGS myself. You should borrow them both for a little and decide yourself because our opinions don't really matter. In the end it's just whatever you want to do. I've recently gone from SS to BGS to ZGS to SGS. I haven't had the pleasure of an AGS yet. For slayer the SGS is just ideal. I switched my gear to verac in combination with SGS and am usually constantly having 5% str prayer bonus on for the entire task thanks to the SGS. For free! I also use less bunyips. And for the hardhitting targets it gives me the extra healing I usually had to bring extra food or guthan for. So I save time. For softer targets the SS does indeed seem to be better than or about equal the BGS or ZGS due to their not so optimal spec. Maybe the SS is more efficient at lower levels??? But the SGS just blows the SS out of the water with its spec. You get a huge prayer bonus with the SGS to start with. It replenishes the prayer. And it basically gives you an overall free 5% att or str bonus. I've been slaying next to the same level people with whips and I don't seem to be any slower. I even get the impression sometimes that I am actually faster with the SGS. So for me, the SGS was a godsend. I love it. I haven't tried it in the GWD though, because I suck at that kind of stuff. This was all just my opinion. I haven't done measured comparisons.

It is true that if you fight out a full fight with both people safeing then the SGS will heal more than the AGS spec will hit but you disregard the KO potential of the AGS. Say you hit a 30 with whip and immediately AGS spec, you have a chance of killing them. You won't always hit 70's but you get two chances to KO. SGS does not have that potential to KO, you can outlast your opponent but that's not really what pvp is about. What?
