Will RuneScape Classic ever be shut down?

Jagex has repeatedly said that RuneScape Classic will not be shut down as long as people still play it. However, Jagex is known for going back on its word. One notable example involved RSC: when Jagex released RS2, it said players could play whichever game they wanted to play. This was proven otherwise when Jagex made RSC available to members only and then closed it to new players altogether, effectively forcing players to move to RS2.

 

 

 

Even though Jagex has said that RSC will not be shut down, it has taken many steps to "kill off" the game, including:

  [*:zow3wol2]closing RSC to all new users
   
  [*:zow3wol2]closing the RSC forums to the public
   
  [*:zow3wol2]removing all official RSC help guides
   
  [*:zow3wol2]wiping inactive RSC accounts (Jagex may have stopped doing this)

 

 

 

This having been said, do you think RSC will bever be shut down? If so, how much longer do you expect RSC to last?

 

 

 

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I personally don't think RSC will last more than two more years.

I think it will be there for a while. They're obviously going to take it away from the mainstream RuneScape community because they are done with it. Their focus is on RS2. RSC is dead to them, but they are loyal to the people who helped establish the game's population.. and kept RSC available.

Like you I'm guessing the end of this decade, or perhaps in 2011 they will re-open RSC to the general public on Runescapes 10 year anniversary.

i still got my level 3, i made my account oct 05 i log on every few months, it has like 50 exp on it other than hp.

 

i reckon they just ignore rsc altogether and probably don't even bother with bots as it would only effect 1000 people max so i doubt they will shut it down

People will just continue to play priv' servers.

Although im a player of many private servers, if jagex were to re open rsc (either through funorb or another route) I would definitely play again.

for me it doesnt matter much if it will be shut down or not.

 

recently i tried some private rsc server what actually worked quite like offical and probably all skills worked...only played short period but there was quite many ppl to fill world that i didnt feel like playing alone. they obviously getting better and can soon replace offical one.

I don't think much would be lost should RSC ever be closed down, although I'd probably miss having access for bragging rights.

Didn't someone mention at some point that if they were to close the game down completely their copyright no longer applied (or something similar) If that's the case it'll never officially close, you just won't be able to find out how to play it! :)
