Anyone else think it is pathetic we live in such a messed up time Obama "had" to retake the oath later so noone would complain? I'd love to see a president try to say the whole oath without someone there to read it line by line(if thats allowed)

I reckon Obama, as well as many other Presidents, could. It isn't particularly long, and Obama in particular taught Constitutional law at a university (I believe).

What's annoying is the fact that idiots are making this out like it's the end of the world. I can't go to school and NOT hear someone talking about "Emperor Obama" or that someone will kill him or something. Seriously, if the school cracked down and reported those kids to the police, half of the school would be under arrest for sedition.

The speech was decent, the whole event was pretty good, but there were a couple of things that bothered me:

Next, write off anyone who asserts that its always better to cut taxes than to increase government spending because taxpayers, not bureaucrats, are the best judges of how to spend their money.

 

Heres how to think about this argument: it implies that we should shut down the air traffic control system. After all, that system is paid for with fees on air tickets and surely it would be better to let the flying public keep its money rather than hand it over to government bureaucrats. If that would mean lots of midair collisions, hey, stuff happens.

 

 

 

The point is that nobody really believes that a dollar of tax cuts is always better than a dollar of public spending. Meanwhile, its clear that when it comes to economic stimulus, public spending provides much more bang for the buck than tax cuts and therefore costs less per job created (see the previous fraudulent argument) because a large fraction of any tax cut will simply be saved.

 

 

 

This suggests that public spending rather than tax cuts should be the core of any stimulus plan. But rather than accept that implication, conservatives take refuge in a nonsensical argument against public spending in general.

This puts the Obama administration in a position where they can easily manipulate and take advantage of huge amounts of people in the population who have no idea of any policies but simply voted for Obama out of hatred for Bush.

 

 

 

Don't get me wrong, Obama beats McCain hands down, EVERYTIME. Giving Sarah Palin a chance at presidency is something noone should ever do. But, when I hear people on the right, like Bill O'reilly talking about people blindly voting for Obama as the "cool" thing to do without understanding his policies, I can't help but agree. I mean, it's just true, and it isn't good. Personally, I agree more with Obama than McCain, but I still think he is to be watched extremely closely. He is in a position where he could easily abuse his power.

He was the first black president. Some 50 years ago black people couldent sit at the front of a bus. Hitler was a great person in all aspects if you dont count the killing of the jews. On youtube there are MANY people saying "Obama is not my prez" and they cant think of a good reason other that he is black. If all the blacks said McCain sucked it would be racist.

I agree with BTTB. If he does something worth mentioning then fine, i'll acknowledge him as this so called "great leader", but he has to earn that title, he doesn't get it just because he's black. Well, I can see his point in that Obama didn't choose to be black. When he actually implements some great policies, then I think that's when people should start praising him as a good president. Closing Gitmo is a good start, so long as the detainees have somewhere else to be incarcerated/get a fair trial. For another topic, perhaps.

 

 

 

I do think bringing up Hitler is rather unnecessary here, though. What I want to know is where and why the hell people are being called racist for saying Obama sucks. It's all too often these day's I'm hearing people being called racists for the most insignificant of reasons.

Getting rid of Guantanamo Bay is the first step towards peace, obviously. Many atheists and many AMERICANS/People of Europe (regardless of religion) could learn something from Obama, as he just gave a great interview towards the Muslim world.
