January 20, 200917 yr I think it's racist how a black man gets all the attention and George Bush didn't get any of this. But you know, since I'm white I can't really play the racism card, can I? First of all Bush's father left his family a bad legacy during his run... so of course.. and its not racist if he does get more attention than bush, if you forgot already the white people are the majority >_> He is the first black president, I'm sure if there were a female president she would get the same attention. Of course...its the first time that this ever happened since like when?... I got to miss 5th and 6th period because of this \ I got the entire day off at school  you like pudding....me too[hide=More Friend Codes coming soon -.- (some are now included cmon pm me
January 20, 200917 yr K well its over. Bring in the daily 'Obama was caught blinking at a baby!!!!!' Threads :wall: Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob. People in OT eat glass when they are bored.
January 20, 200917 yr Well that was interesting. My school has some 2000 people. I don't know how many people our auditorium can hold, but I've estimated at least 1000 people squeezed in today. Add in a few hundred people in the library, and basically the whole school was watching. Thankfully I was one of the first people there, and managed to get a seat. Though no one really sat, standing ovation after standing ovation... My history teacher (I mentioned earlier, he's black, and basically idolizes Obama...) was close to tears, and he gave us transcripts of the awesome speech, only about an hour after it took place. (I know, I know, it was written beforehand...) Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu.

How is it racist that one president gets more attention than another? A ridiculous statement. Because he's black? If Obama was white he wouldn't get anywhere ner the hype he has now. There is a bit of a historical twist because he is the first black president but his appeal is his ability to inspire people much in the same way JFK did. JFK got a lot of attention...don't tell me, that was because he was the first Catholic to become President  . Some Presidents get more attention than others, nothing to do with racism, just politics. January 20, 200917 yr I'm sick of it. The televisions were on during the inaugruration...(We were eating lunch) Thank God I wasn't forced to watch it. I would have walked out. Funny story: We've got a ton of kids who are gravely misled, and one has been wearing this Barack Paper Scissors shirt for the past two days. He was walking by one of the TVs, and another kid shut it off. The tshirt kid went, "HEY!" and then tried to turn it back on. He was too short to turn it back on and so I laughed at him. YES I LAUGHED AT HIM. Oh and then my German teacher refused to turn the TV on (but told the kids they could go watch it elsewhere, but she wouldn't repeat the lesson for them) and followed by saying she supported Bush but she didn't ever watch his inagurations; why should Obama be any different. MY GERMAN TEACHER OWNS. Honestly, if McCain had been elected there wouldn't be half as much hype, even though THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST WOMAN VP. AND OBAMA'S ONLY HALF-AFRICAN AMERICAN. REGARDLESS OF ANYTHING ELSE, HIS PLAYING OF THE RACE CARD AND THE MEDIA IS THE REASON HE WON THE ELECTION. Feel free to reply. I will be reading this thread. And yes, I am Caucasian and a Republican. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube

January 20, 200917 yr Well I got to watch the speech today \ I thought it went pretty well, speech was fairly good I'd say. and now I start my timer for how long till America realizes he is not god lol finally--to the post above, hes considered black because America puts so much stress on race that looking black=being black in this country. My gf is 1/4th native but noone notices because she just looks tan so shes considered white. So basically Americans are vain lol Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.
January 20, 200917 yr It wasn't his greatest of speeches, but it was the perfect speech for the right time. He was very specific, direct, and brutally honest about many things. I was a little annoyed at the whole 'anyone who criticised america' must hate our freedoms hern hern shtick that he's peddling... like no one in the world could POSSIBLY have a reason to not love the states. Other than that, it was perfect. I especially liked Rev. Lowery's benediction. These three portions of the speech stuck out to me: We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. All this we will do To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist. and finally, he kicked nationalism in the balls: For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

Environmentally he is white, and genetically he's gray, so why do people worship him? Hey, racists, race is not biological, it is a social construct. Go find me evidence that race is biological, and I'll apologize for calling you racists. Obama identifies as a black man, he would be viewed by the world's social construct as a black man, he is therefore a black man.
January 20, 200917 yr AND OBAMA'S ONLY HALF-AFRICAN AMERICAN. REGARDLESS OF ANYTHING ELSE, HIS PLAYING OF THE RACE CARD AND THE MEDIA IS THE REASON HE WON THE ELECTION. As I have mentioned, that is just wrong. How did Obama play the race card? I remember one speech that focussed on race (after the Reverend Wright controversy) one out of literally hundreds during the campaign. If he had played the race card it would have destroyed his support among the white majority who got him elected. As I've said, whether you like him or not he campaigned on the spirit of hope and on the issues to say anything else is ridiculous. I mean what do you expect him to do - come out and say that he hates black people and paint himself white so he can avoid 'playing the race card'? Also, you say he is only half-african american, so what? In years gone by, even being mixed race was enough to diminish your civil rights. Mixed race people tend to identify themselves more as black, it isn't an uncommon occurrence. I've already rebuked the 'media won it for him' rubbish, just read my earlier. As I've said before, the media did not win him this election and race definately didn't. If anything, he won the election in spite of his race. He won because he is able to inspire people and because he was seen to be better equipped to deal with the economy than McCain. These conspiracy theories are sour grapes, fair enough disagree with his ideals and policies but this is all just in poor taste. January 20, 200917 yr I've seen a part of his speech on t.v. Incredible how this man can remember all this stuff. He is doing it from his head, right? Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
January 20, 200917 yr Then...don't watch the news? I enjoy politics, I enjoy what's happening around the world...I don't watch the TV news stations; typically things are sensationalized and they ruin the real story. I would much rather read articles. I don't understand why it's so hard to avoid. Ha! "Don't watch the news"? Obama is an adjective at my school, synonym for awesome... Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude? Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you? January 20, 200917 yr I've seen a part of his speech on t.v. Incredible how this man can remember all this stuff. He is doing it from his head, right? I didn't see him look down at notecards or anything once, so I think he memorized it. Benefits of relatively-young age I suppose :D
January 20, 200917 yr I've seen a part of his speech on t.v. Incredible how this man can remember all this stuff. He is doing it from his head, right? Nah, I'm think he had a teleprompter. Still, he is amazing at giving speeches, truly a charismatic guy, and that's one of the many reasons he was elected. (And if he did memorize it, that would be yet another reason.) Hawkxs, as mentioned, Obama did not purposely play the race card on any occasion. Obviously, there are people who voted for him solely because he's black, but what control does he have over that? And I find it rather strange how you act like if Palin played the gender card, it would be fine, but if Obama played the race card, it wouldn't. January 20, 200917 yr Contrary to popular belief, and it is quite the popular belief because they bring up how he says "um" a lot when he is thinking, Obama rarely uses a teleprompter unless it's a big speech, such as at the Democratic National Convention. He usually memorizes them. I'm not sure if he memorized this or not, though.

Excatly, there are a lot more females in USA than black people so by that theory, the republicans would have won by a landslide. The theory that black people voted for him just for being black ignores that black people tend to vote democrat anyway. As many people voting for him just in order to elect a black man are equalled by the people who won't vote for him because he is black and because of the republican attempts to suggest he was somehow unamerican (which plays on people prejudices, thankfully McCain himself didn't do this but others did). MY GERMAN TEACHER OWNS. It appears your teacher is among the 22% that still actually supports/supported Bush, so I'm not too surprised that she's not psyched about a new President that's going to have to reverse alot of the [cabbage] Bush did during his 8 years. Honestly, if McCain had been elected there wouldn't be half as much hype, even though THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST WOMAN VP. As it's already been said multiple times on this topic, it's true that there wouldn't have been as much hype for McCain because electing an old white guy as president isn't nearly as exciting. And having the first woman 2nd-in-command isn't as exciting as the first african-american 1st-in-command. You know how people seem to remember the Presidents more than their VP's? Yeah, there's a reason for that. AND OBAMA'S ONLY HALF-AFRICAN AMERICAN. REGARDLESS OF ANYTHING ELSE, HIS PLAYING OF THE RACE CARD AND THE MEDIA IS THE REASON HE WON THE ELECTION. He has grown up being identified as an African-American, why should that change now? And Obama rarely played the race card. He never anyone racist for disagreeing with him or disliking him, even that crazy lady who called him an Arab on national television. But you're right about one thing - His winning the election had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he personally out-raised the RNC by $300m, had a much better groundbased organization, chose an experienced VP, or didn't side with the very disliked, former President (I love how that sounds) GW Bush 90% of the time. It's that dang mainstream media showin his face all over the televisions! oh, and it seems you've caught onto one of the internet's llesser-known secrets. IF YOU WANT TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS, YOU MUST TYPE ALL IN CAPS.

I would point out some things here 90% or so of african americans vote democrat, a slight to decent majority of woman are also democrats. So clearly obama energizing black voters can have a greater effect then palin energizing woman. Second, Obama did win largely because he is an amazing orator creates hope etc. but to deny that him being black helped is innacurate, just as denying that his speaking skills were importnat would be innacurate. Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.
January 20, 200917 yr Nah, he snuck peeks. You can tell. When he stops at a big part, he swings his head slowly. He's probably mostly memorized it, though. I thought Obama's dad wasn't legal at the time of, uh, conception? That makes Obama African-Kansasian. Just thought I'd, you know, point it out. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Go find me evidence that race is biological, and I'll apologize for calling you racists. Obama identifies as a black man, he would be viewed by the world's social construct as a black man, he is therefore a black man. How do you get that they're racists from that? Anyway, there's obviously a biological component to it, because skin colour is encoded in your genes. You can't identify as a black man if your biology doesn't do the work first. But that's really beside the main point, which is that although biologically he's half-black, I think it's more than reasonable to call him black. He would have been denied rights just like any "fully black" person prior to racial equality in America, so it's still a huge symbolic punch in the face to racism.
January 21, 200917 yr Hey, racists, race is not biological, it is a social construct. Go find me evidence that race is biological, and I'll apologize for calling you racists. Obama identifies as a black man, he would be viewed by the world's social construct as a black man, he is therefore a black man. Saying race isn't biological is like saying people's hair color isn't biological. It's melanin either way, and even though there exists a clear procession from blonde to black and red, we instinctively divide them and name them. You can say race isn't biological, but you'd be saying that hair color isn't either. It's all just genetics and what names we give the phenotypes. He couldn't get away with being a "black man" if he didn't have "black genes". That's the whole point of dubbing phenotypes. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

January 21, 200917 yr Hey, racists, race is not biological, it is a social construct. Go find me evidence that race is biological, and I'll apologize for calling you racists. Race is a biological social construct. The labels we made up didn't come out of nowhere - it came from the fact that humans have different skin shades which has to do with your genetic lineage.
