So as i'm (very slowly) approaching 85 slayer, i've been talking to a lot of people about both 83 slayer (spiritual mages and d-boots) and 85 slayer (abby demons and abby whip).

 

 

 

I've heard lots of mixed messages, which is why i'm posting here.

 

 

 

So what is it? which is more money? which is more exp? I've heard many variations, that spiritual mages are better for money and exp, or just exp. And that abby demons are better money than spiritual mages because it has good other drops besides the whip. I've heard drop rates for boots and whips vary wildy, so I was wondering if someone can provide a definitive answer to this too.

 

 

 

So hopefully someone can straighten this whole situation up for me, thanks!

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and the answer i found is as follows.

 

 

 

Get to 85 then try both out several times and make your own assumption on it as they seem to be close for most people in terms of drop rate/exp.

D boots are cheap now, spiritual mages are terrible money.

Yes, but you get more D boots per abby whip.

Mages are generally faster gp/hr, but they can actually come very close to each other at times. It's seriously lucky dependant, as the values of their drops suggest. If all I cared about was money, I'd be killing zammy mages though. Dragon boots drop rather constantly (you will almost always get at least 1 per task or around ~150 mages, often 2, sometimes 3). You can spend a LONG time hunting for a whip drop so it's easy to burn out, however abby demons drop many good items inbetween whips so they make up for it.

 

Summing up: Mages for money.

 

 

 

As far as exp/hr goes, I'm torn between the two. If you aren't on a slayer task, mages probably give better xp/hr.

 

 

 

D boots are cheap now, spiritual mages are terrible money.

 

Not really, they're not the best money maker in game anymore, but they will still net good cash.

Besides, abby demons also drop charms.

Abby demons have higher defence than Spiritual Mages, but you can camp at demons.

I've never killed any myself, but I'd imagine Spiritual Mages would provide a steadier income of cash.

Facts are inherently real, and therefore your title is rather tautological.

 

 

 

GP-wise, I would say that SP Mages are better, but Abyssals are not too far behind.

 

XP-wise, I think they are about the same.

 

 

 

I don't think camping is a good idea, but if I had to choose between the two, I would take the latter because:

 

 

 

1. You get charms;

 

2. It is less tedious.

Compared to SP mages its a ton, seeing as they don't even drop any...

and compared to waterfiends its 0. Don't say a ton, just "they drop charms".

This depends on the individual and their stats as well as how crowded the area is.

This again depends on the individual. I can kill a mage in 2-4 hits, I can kill a demon in 4-5. If you factor everything together it's not that big a time difference.

I'd disagree on this one. I have gone tasks with no boots as I've said and I've had tasks with many. I've had tasks with no whips, and tasks with 1-3. Other than boots, spiritual mages don't really drop anything of worth. They drop runes, uncuts, the occasional key half, pure essence, and clues. Demons drop rune items, coins, key halves, clues, dragon shield left half, and heads (which aren't worth anything but are pretty darn nifty) and that's all in addition to whips. I'd say demons are the better income over all per task and thus per hour. But that's just my personal experience.

What on earth are you talking about? Black demons drop whip once every 470 kills. Spirit mages drop boots once every 140 kills. That number doesn't magically change from person to person.

You are wrong about drop rates. Both of them could vary in a small sample. As such, the ONLY way to measure it is with the AVERAGE. You can't just say 'whip drops sometimes, d boots drop sometimes.. you cant say ones more common!!'. No, that's stupid. Read up on probability. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probability

Been a while since I slayed consistently, but they seem to be about even. But if you're looking for a nice combination of slayer experience beyond 85 + a bit of profit + charms, demons definitely win by a good noselength. Plus, a luckless abby task is a lot less frustrating than a luckless spiritual mage task, since you're sure to get your charms and some alchable drops.
