OK Trolling Time.

I don't understand why people would pay good money, and large multi-nationals, shell out millions of dollars just to watch some fast cars go around and around and around... ad infinitum. Frankly it's not a sport, its a occasion for Motorheads to get together and hoon around. Why not spend those tens of millions of dollars on charity instead. (And pollute less)

I understand, why company's must do it as, they must get a large sum of money from endorsments and advertising.

But to me its pointless. Completely and utterly non-sensical.[/hide]

I hate him but it's necessary

Most people use Nascar as a catalyst. When i'm watching a race i'm with at least a dozen people 80% of the time and we are chatting, hooting and hollering and just having a good time. And the crashes are awesome too. And seeing the drivers compete for position on the track is no less exciting than watching a man run a football to the end zone.

And i will end this post with a mandatory:

I never understand why people enjoy NASCAR. Its like the lets watch cars go around and around for hours burning up gas, putting pollutants up into the air, etc. Its like everything America shouldn't stand for.

America should stand for something? It's just a damn country.

NASCAR has some pretty amazing technology - I mean really, how do they make those billboards go so fast around the track? [/stolen joke from comic strip]

On the subject of motor racing, the WRC season is back on track, now that requires skill.

Well we shouldn't stand for wasting resources like this and complaining about global warming when we have a sport and I call it that loosely, destroys our environment more then it entertains its fans.

So what exactly do you purpose as a substitute for this multi-billion dollar industry?

The only reason one watches NASCAR is to see the crashes, right? Never properly watched a full NASCAR race (saw the finish on news one night, pretty much all there is to see) and it would be mad to be right next to the track when a car smashes into it

clay is for racing, tarmac is how you get there!

nascar is boring. its even more boring than v8 supercars here in australia, and F1 everywhere.

v8 supercars here is slowly turning into a combination of nascar and F1. It still uses cars that somewhat resemble what you would see on roads, but there is so much traction control bs and sequential gearbox rubbish. luckily it hasn't gone all the way to the bottom yet and turned to paddle shifts, but sequential boxes are dam close.

out of all the v8 supercar seasons in the last 5 or so years, they have all been drop dead boring. 10 or so years ago (when i was young) they still had a tint of excitement in them. still, nothing beats seeing brock in mid 80's, back when there were other cars except for crappy new age commodores and plain stupid and shiety falcons.

[hide=aussie lingo]btw for all you ford fans out there, in the 1986 (the first year i thought of googling) james hardie bathurst 1000, you came 4th (in a mustang, the only decent ford). the second placed ford didnt finish (also a mustang), and there were only 2 other fords (sierra and escort) that also didnt finish (where are the falcons?, oh i forgot there all on the rubbish dump).

holden came 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 28th and 29th. there were also 7 other holdens that didnt finish, 3 of which got further than your 2nd placed mustang.

this was back in the day when winning bathurst actually meant something. there were all sorts of makes and models (so its fair) and the cars didnt have to be modified to run exactly the same, they were ACTUAL manufacturer cars.

v8 supercars nowadays are not real cars, they are rubbish[/hide]

Yeah I watched all the crashes (I didn't count but my brother said there were 8 of em).

V8 Supercars own, I went to Bathurst back in 2003, I wasn't very old and can't remember too well, but was pretty sweet.

Oh and Holden > Ford, even if Ford has been winning lately.

I think you either enjoy car racing, or you don't, but if you don't, don't complain about it...

*entertainment > environment, thats how it is for me.

how can someone deny, with 1 or 2 laps to go....it's nose to nose, not sure who's gonna pull ahead =P~

It's suspense, and during the race it's fun to follow you driver and watch them navigate around other drivers ::'

Rooting for Mark Martin this year. Was nice to see him sit on the front row today, hopefully he'll be able to finish up what he didn't in '07.

Honestly, horse racing is more fun to watch than Nascar and that is boring as [bleep] to be honest, meh.....just my 2 cents.

I can almost guarantee that 99.9% of the people who are putting down Nascar, have never seen more than 10 minutes of a race

I'm not going to bash nascar too bad, but personally i cant stand it.

Only driver i know is Juan Pablo Montoya, and thats because he came from F1 first, and he probably isn't even in it anymore.

I have 'tried' watching it before, but it really has no appeal to me, i'm a man for the lower ranked races, watching the formula ford uk races, renault clio cup races and the like are more fun than any top racing.

Don't want to sound an [wagon], but that's usually because most people lose interest in the first 10 minutes. Really, "it's an acquired taste" would be the best way of putting it.
