thrash-boy
Yesterday was a terrible day here in south eastern Australia, it was the hottest day on record in most places, and the strong winds (and drought) made perfect conditions for bushfires. unfortunately there were fires, which have wiped out 640+ homes, killed 49+ people, and completely destroyed 2 whole towns. luckily the fires didn't get to where i live (the wind change predicted didnt happen untill later than expected). dad was out all night at the redesdale fire (hes a cfa volunteer), and said it was the most unorganized waste of time hes ever spent going to a fire. he was there for 4 hours before he even did anything, and after that all they did was drive around and look at burnt down houses. 2 towns have been destroyed completly, except the odd few surviving houses. one of which i went on a holiday to last year (marysville), which is said to have only 1 house remaining. (i can understand why aswell, the joints in the middle of the thickest forest you could imagine) heres the wikipedia article: Click. (already has a lot of information considering it only happened yesterday) has anyone on tip.it been impacted by these fires, or any bushfire before? Wongtong
Nope, but I heard about the Bushfires in Aussie just before, they mentioned the death toll changing (probably going up) at the end of news. Edit: Hope everyone in Aussie who's affected by the bushfires are okay. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! nine naked men
I heard 35 confirmed dead on the news a little while ago. I hope they catch anyone who deliberately lights these fires, and throws them right into the middle of an inferno. One of my mates had to leave his home because they wind was changing and it could've been heading towards his home. Haven't heard from him, hope him and his family get out alright. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
warri0r45
It sounds pretty horrible. I don't know anyone impacted by the fires because I live in Queensland, but I still feel for the people who lost their lives. Any arsonists responsible should be locked up for life, no exceptions. Happysniff
65 have been confirmed dead so far. I thought the high temepratures would be nation wide, but its been relatively normal in NSW. It sounds pretty horrible. I don't know anyone impacted by the fires because I live in Queensland, but I still feel for the people who lost their lives. Some might say it's too harsh, but it's a serious crime and any arsonists who contributed to these fires should be locked up for a long time. I just saw the report on the news, and the pictures are nothing short of astonishing. Entire towns were burnt down - homes, schools, the local pub and police station - everything. It's like a war zone.

jemathonical
Floods up north, bushfires down south. Quite a contrast. I'd like to see the arsonists jailed for life, fined for the damages they have caused. And see how the family feels paying of debts for years. And I gotta take my hat off to the CFA volunteers, they do heaps of work. Keep it up men. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!

I understood what you said, I just disagree with you. Incarceration for a lifetime is a massive punishment while death to me would be like freedom. If you want to find the death penalty thread that was floating around a little while back, then by all means take the argument there. The skies a bit red where I live as well. In New Zealand? Why would their family have to pay for it, when they had NO CONNECTION TO THE FIRES WHATSOEVER? The arsonists alone should pay for it. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. Make the arsonist sit life in prison for 65 charges of murder and work off any debt through hard labor till he dies, his family had no responsibility at all and holding them liable is extremely unfair. doomy
Yeah I can understand how bad it would be there, even here in NZ the forrest fire levels are set to 'extreme', really been redicuously hot. But arsonists, jeez thats just sad, can't think of a much worse way to die then from a fire. Doomy edit: I like sheep

Unfortunatly we dont have Death Sentences in Australia though they've tryed to bring it back for 2 centuries now. Its bad enough we became litterally the Hottest Place on Earth with a staggering 46*C heats but these idiot arsonists continue doing this causeing it to be worse. Not to mention the now clarified 90+ Dead and a town thats litterally non-existant anymore besides a Town Guide Poster (Not like that'll help anymore). Hopefully things die down soon as the temp' drops... Oh and the total opposite on the other side of Australia with flooding. whats next, Alice Springs gets snow and WA has an Earthquake? :| Popoto.~<

I can't remember the last time I've experienced 40+ Celcius temperatures, but Melbourne and Adelaide have had them for a couple of weeks now. Crazy stuff. Orpheus
That's pretty bad though, two towns torched to the ground. I'm not sure if anyone did start the fires though. Those temps would present a very ideal situation, but until there's proof that an arsonist was behind it, I won't believe it 100% I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. From what I've seen on the news it looks pretty awful, nearly 100 people dead already. I couldn't imagine living in temperatures like that, it baffles me how you Aussies cope to be honest. Up here I'd say that 18 or 19*C is good Summer weather, I think the UK record temperature is only just above 30*C and that caused anarchy - people were getting sunstroke and you could boil eggs on the tarmac. The thought of 46*C would absolutely terrify me to be honest. Madmanpur3
Um, how hot is 46*C exactly? Because a converter I found on google says 114.6*F, which isn't THAT hot...especially when you consider they were playing tennis at the Australian Open with courtside temps upwards of 140*F/60*C. And record highs of 30*C in the UK? What?
