warri0r45
Major banks have donated a few million each. I gave $10. :| Don't feel bad about it, they're just in a better position to donate more. As the cliche goes, every little bit helps.

eggzs
Should give the arsonists a taste of their own medicine. ie. Throw them in Fire.
thrash-boy
Should give the arsonists a taste of their own medicine. ie. Throw them in Fire. not worth it, you will just kill them and put them out of their misery. best way i can think is burn a leg, nothing life threatening. leave it for a few days and then burn the other. a few days later burn an arm. once all the main bits are done, give it a week to heal and then start with the leg again. do a full cycle of burning every limb for every life that was lost, burn 2 limbs for every close relative of every life lost, burn 1 limb for every house/important building etc that was lost (including houses where the owners didn't survive), burn a finger or toe for every volunteer firefighter/phone answerer/whatever who had to stop what they were doing for this fire. after that dump him in a dark cell 23.5 hours a day, and then push him into a small room with bright artificial light for the other half hour. make him live on ash contaminated water and bread (with vitamin pills or whatever to keep him going), and half fill hes cell with smoke. heat hes cell to 60+ Celsius 24/7, even in summer. I'm not a big fan of arsonists, but that's just sick and twisted. Seriously, what the hell would that achieve? Nothing. All it does is satisfy some sick urge you have for revenge. The arsonists in this case are probably pyromaniacs, who are mentally deranged and have a psychological "urge" to see things burn. I've even heard reports of these people joining the fire department so they can actually get in on the action, so to speak. These people need psychological help, not systematic torture. XxTearGodxX
Wow it is really sad that the fires in Australia spread that rapidly and destroyed so many homes and killed so many many people. I read on CNN today that they caught the guy in connection to it. I have no sympathy or remorse for that son of a [bleep], I hope they make him take a nice bath in some oil and light him ablaze until he is turned to dust. PoorLepRecon
This is horrible that some arsonists started this fire. My thoughts go out to those who have family killed in the fire, and those who were killed by the fire themselves. I hope the fires get uner control quickly (if they arn't already). Azvareth
Apparently one guy has been charged: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 22,00.html POLICE have charged a 39-year-old Gippsland man over the Churchill bushfire, which has killed at least 21 people. "The man was arrested in his home town yesterday and was charged with arson causing death, intentionally or recklessly causing a bushfire and possessing child pornography." What a stand-up guy. Also, this is goddamn scary: terrifying sound of bush fire No wonder people decided to get out in the last minute before the burning Fires of Hell got near them. Jesus christ. Mimesenior
Death Toll at 189 now... They finally named the arsonist on Victorian news, but they won;t show his face or the place where he lived. I heard he is facing 40+ years jail as well.

warri0r45
They should never have named the arsonist. Now everyone on the internet has his name and photo, there's bound to be some overzealous people out there who want to take the law into their own hands. For Christ's sake people, let the legal system deal with him. Any vigilante violence is only going to strengthen the arguments of the defence lawyers. RichieMcD
Even when he is dealt with by the law system, in prison his name will most likely be known by 1 person which will spread and ultimately become a target for senseless violence. I don't agree at all that he should have been named.

I don't agree at all that he should have been named. i disagree. naming him is what should have been done. if he gets beaten to a pulp by some people who decide to take the law into their own hands, i certainly wont be missing him. people have the right to know who caused their houses to be destroyed, and their friends/family to be killed. i seriously hope that the government doesn't spend any serious money protecting him. "Hey, you destroyed a quarter of our state and killed hundreds of innocent people, but we dont care. we are going to spend tens of thousands of dollars supplied by those same innocent people to protect you. your welfare is more valuable to us than all the people who got killed!" i think the money would be better spent rebuilding what has been destroyed. just let the fool who did it back onto the streets. dont expect us to protect you you idiot, not after what you have done. after all, im sure justice will follow through even if we do let him go. There's so much wrong with this post it's not even funny. 1) If you let him free, what if he does it again? Vigilante justice is no substitute for a secure prison where he can't re-offend. If he is a pyromaniac or has some other mental disability, which is a real possibility, I can't believe you'd advocate something so reckless. 2) Sure people have the right to know who burnt their house down, but they can wait until after the trial. In that way, the trial won't be threatened and the prosecution has a better chance of getting the right result quickly. Need I remind people of the case of Dennis Ferguson, who at one point couldn't get a fair trial in Queensland (according the the ruling of a judge) because of public notoriety? 3) Even if justice does "follow trough", well meaning though hot-headed members of the public will be locked up for assault and possibly murder. You wouldn't want that on your conscience, would you? Or are you perfectly fine with well meaning citizens being locked up so long as this arsonist ends up as a bloody pulp? What people need to do right now is be patient and let the legal system take care of it. In that way we will see justice and he'll be locked up for a very long time. Arson resulting in the deaths of multiple people will always carry a serious jail sentence.
