swoooot Posted March 7, 2009 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Hi everyone, When i joined the navy on the 1th of September '08 it was a great time. In the evening i had nothing to do so i got addicted to RS again after almost 2 years :P. Now i almost completed the 'School' part and going on the ship at the end of april. But i just heard, that the ship i'm joining, is going on a mission for 5 months. I'm excited, but also kinda nervous. I'm only 18 and @ the same time i'm going on a dangerous mission. You might want to know where i'm going to and what i will do on the mission? Well, i'm going to Somalia, north-east (if i'm right) of Africa. The mission is fighting against the so called Pirates who are active there, stealing food-transportation ships. We have to defend those Foodships. I am on a safe ship, but i'm also nervous of what could happen. And ofcourse the contact @ home will be less then i now have. How would you make it yourself easier to go away for 5 months without seeing just 1 person you know from your village? Wisp Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 Barring an accident, you should be fine. Pirates don't really have anything that could do anything to any decent military ship. As for going without family, it can be hard. But, I'm guessing, you will be busy a lot of the time which will take your mind of them. Barihawk Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 You should be fine. Most of the time you probably won't even be above deck. The food in most modern navies is pretty good. It gets a little cramped, though. Duck your head going through hatches, don't talk back to superiors, blah blah. Just take some small reminders of home and you should be good :). Anyways, as others mentioned, pirates are not going to as organised and powerful to destroy a military ship. Even if they somehow manage to get on board, there's no way they'll be able to take any trained soldiers out. Bring some pictures, if it's the least you can do. Good luck and don't worry! Apparently the navy took them all out easily and tossed them in cells where they had their fun with them.
