ElkNight
A lame goth rip-off. What's the difference? Seriously? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061111161844AABSIZq [hide=]Emo was originally a nickname for "emotive hardcore" (type of music), but has evolved into meaning "emotional" because it was misinterpreted, since fans of this music were ususally known for being a bunch of depressed-self-harming-teens with too much free time. It's all stereotypical. But this is what it's known for now. An emo person (like I said stereotypical) would be very depressed, hate the world, including themselves and probabl cry all the time. They've even stereotyped and emo style. Usually "emo" kids dress in skinny jeans, dark colors (but not all black), band tee shirts, and chucks. But, like I said about 5 or so times. IT'S ALL STEREOTYPICAL!!! And it did originally mean "emotive hardcore". (and if some one dresses like that it doesn't mean they're gonna go suicidal!) The word "gothic" was originally used to descibe works of art that were "dark", which is the meaning, hence how it now descibes people we call "goth". Gothic is now used as an adjective is ususally used to discribe people who wear all, or mostly black. They're usually gloomy. And people think that they do some sort of devil worship. They're sometimes depressed, but everyone can get depressed, so that doesn't really count. Gothic style is: (like I said) all or mostly black, heavy eyeliner, black or odd colored hair. This too can all be stereotypical. Like you can dress "goth" and not worship the devil. You can say you're goth and not worship the devil. There's a goth style music too. It's like a form of rock. Sort of. But like I said, through this whole thing. Most of this is stereotypical, especially all the "emo" stuff. It's kinda sad how things can get so stupidly out of hand.[/hide] That is a decent answer I guess. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! Omar
The original emotional hardcore music sounded like this: [yt]-UY8NOBM2_Q[/yt] [hide=Lyrics]hate in me love you can't define the word hate love in it comes too late (???) jealousy it's in between the two resentment something that gels between me and you cloudhead filled with rain can't stop the rain just like realizing my pain can't stop my pain i wish i wish that i could see what's going bad with me and i wish that you could know know what to do with love to show when i think of you i think of love and hate of things never to be what i see in you i see love and hate in things i wish could be just at times i wish you could see love and hate in me when individuality cannot exist it doesn't exist but not for jealousy and when consciously you told me it doesn't exist it can never be hate in me hate in me when individuality cannot exist it doesn't exist but not for jealousy and when consciously you told me it doesn't exist it can never be anytime anytime you recognize it love in me could separate pain when a cloud it comes heavy with rain i can no longer hold the pain looking right on you when individuality cannot exist it doesn't exist but not for jealousy when consciously you told me it doesn't exist it can never be hate in me hate in me aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh[/hide] Pretty much punk with lyrics not necessarily about being depressed and cutting yourself, just going through tough times. Note that the guy is wearing Vans and not Chucks. Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude? Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you? Camera guy: still laughing Matt: You want the funny shit that happens here and there, you think it comes out of your [bleep]ing [wagon] pushes garbage can down, don't you? You think it's funny? It comes out of here! running towards Camera guy Camera guy: runs away still laughing Matt: You think the funny comes out of your mother[bleep]ing creativity? candychimp
You'll find a lot of different definitions for it. These days, it's nothing to do with the music, the EMOtive hardcore' music scene died out years ago. There's still bands that are still classed as Emo though but they're of the pop-punk genre such as Youmeatsix, MCR and Bring me the Horizon; but it's really just a fashion trend. Just another phase on the road to adulthood. Hardcore kid = Listens to hardcore punk music, usually seen in the Circle pits at Concerts. Scene kid = Similar to Emo but love themselves more and if you see a group of them it usually resembles the rainbow.
Omar
MCR is nothing like emotive hardcore... Bring me the Horizon, isn't that a generic screamo metal band? And I've never seen an actual emo in a mosh pit, either. I don't see why people hate scene kids though? :| I mean, the scene kids I know are funny and they're always laughing. Am I missing something? Racheya
I once vaguely considered myself to be emo. (I did cut myself but that was just me being a [developmentally delayed]). I had black and pink stripey arm warmers and everything! :o [hide=Armwarmery Goodness][/hide] Basically I just consider emo kids to be whiny and stuck up themselves. I know and am friends with a few people who wear dark clothing and listen to more emo'y, gothic like music but they're nothing like the sort of Emos you get on Livejournal :| OMG I HAET MYSELF NO1 LIEKS ME!! My bf broke up wiv me cuz he sed I cry 2 much!!!1 Im just showin my emotions!! Tim
I just hate these idiotic teens who took a Mental Illness and made it into a damn Fashion look. I work with Mentally Depressed Kids/Teens and so far only 1 wore this clothing range because she thought all Emotional People wear it. When I suffred depression (Still do) If some people asked, at least 20% responded "Go cut your wrists then". 1 Person even had the balls to say to me "PowderFinger's an Emo Band", I litterally grabbed a wooden plank and said "There [bleeping] Rock you freaking [bleep]." Sheesh, if my family was killed (Or something bad anyway) im not going to inherit the money and buy clothing to make me look the role, I wear what Im comfy in, and tight pants that are 2 sizes below your younger sister's ISNT one of them. NoMoreDead
Real "emo" kids aren't spending their time posting facebook messages with nonsense like: "There's nothing left for me here 3. It was all a lie". Emo is the latest way for kids to act out and attempt to be "deep". You might hear a new wave emo-monster say something like "I was up last night just thinking about stuff and how much I miss my old life." Stupid whiny nonsense about how much better things were/could have been if something hadn't gone wrong. Emo today is a fashion trend. It's just the latest attention grabber. Unfortunately, really good true emo bands go completely unnoticed while bands like The Used, Story of the year, Senses fail, and Saves the day ruin the genre song by song, album by album. Legitimate emo bands: -Texas is the Reason -Jimmy Eat World (ONLY their first two albums (Static Prevails and Clarity)). -Circle Takes the Square -I Would Set Myself on Fire for You -We Fly Our Kites at Night

RpgGamer
My "definitions" (I don't personally believe in labeling, but for the purpose of general identification and education, I'll excuse this) Emo: The stereotypical personality of those who stereotypically dress "scene" or "hardcore". This is not always the case however. "Emos" can dress however they damn well please. They are commonly accused of being cutters and often seem to have some sort of "issue". Also believed to complain a lot. Most also pin them frequently with their love of poetry and all things depressing. Again, not always true. One can be labeled emo if in a bad mood, even if it's only for a day or so. That can be enough for the savages that believe in these stereo types. "Emos" are also commonly believed to be loners. Scene: The "dress code" of those labeled as "emo". However, I've noticed that people who dress "scene" tend to be generally happier than those who don't. This style includes things such as Converse shoes, tight jeans, and really (for lack of better word) interesting hairstyles. Usually a style that brings a lot of attention if done properly. Usually involves a lot of irony, asymetric designs, and lots of skulls. "Retro" accesories are also common. Almost like a more colorful version of what is known as "goth" Hardcore: Very similiar to "scene", but with an attitude. Involves much more black and much more skulls than "scnene" Also requries a random key chain hanging off of back pocket. More ironic clothing, and usually accompanied by exotic piercings. Commonly known for listening to Deathcore/Screamo music. All of these things are commonly related, but as I see it, they can be very different.
