What exactly defines a person as "emo"?

 

What is emo?

 

I've never really understood it. And I've heard a lot of different definitions.

 

Is it the way a person acts, or just a certain style, or something completely different?

 

 

 

edit: Also, what is a hardcore kid, and what is a scene kid?

Basiclly its anyone who live's suck and they express it with darkness and hurthing themselves.

 

And to avoid confusion, being emo could be a mental problem, family problems, lifestyle, or other reasons. I mean there a difference between a rich emo and a poor emo, or a mentally depressed emo and a sensetitve emo..

yup they dress in black and cut thier wrists its also a style to them.

'Emo', in my mind, is someone who acts depressed, wears black, etc, for no good reason. They're usually middle class, their parents are still together, live in a nice house and all that stuff, they do it because it's supposedly trendy.

 

 

 

People from broken homes, rife with drugs, abuse etc, I don't feel that way about, their life actually does suck.

Ehh I was "Friends" with an emo last year. :| There was no brakeman on her emotional rollercoaster.

There are emos, and then there are actually depressed people.

 

Emos generally are somewhat rich suburban kids who act like their lives suck, though it really isn't that bad. They usually wear black, cut their wrists, all that stuff you hear about.

I'm more of a "Emo is a fashion" person, there is a girl in my class who does everything like this:

I'm pretty sure some people here would call someone an '(w)emo' just because of how they dress or how their hair is, and don't bring up that [cabbage] like "Emo is music!!!" because society has warped it from a genre into a fashion statement.

Emo kids are pretty much people who think that their life sucks even though they usually live in decent homes with a decent family. I don't even know why parents allow them to wear this expensive clothing and make up and then allow them to pierce whatever part of their body however many times they want.

I used to be "emo". REALLY stupid now that I look back on it. I had a very negative outlook on life etc etc, had the emo hair and whatnot. Ugh.

 

A friend (a girl) pulled me out of that stage. That was three years ago, and I'm the polar opposite of emo now. I have a relatively good social life, get reasonable grades (B+ A- range) and am now an atheist (woo, logic!).

 

It's funny how I owe half my life to two girls, heh (another girl introduced me to RuneScape and TIF, which pulled me out of doing drugs because RS was so damn addictive).

I think emo stands for emotional. It's hard to believe that people would want to start a depressed clique. I mean with gangsters and jocks, they're stereotyped for their arrogance but I still think that's a little better than being known for your whining.

I'm not saying they don't deserve criticism. (Hell, everyone does.) But it's pretty ridiculous when you only belittle emos, while too afraid to say anything to the stereotypes that are just as funny but have a reputation for arguing back. In other words, they should pick on someone their own size.

Now, it's anyone you don't like. Like [bleep]er, the person you're calling a [bleep]er doesn't necessarily do it, it's just what you say when you can't think of anything else.

Whiny, middle class, kids who think their lives suck just because they have a few dating issues. They pretend they're suicidal and quote sappy love song lyrics. It's a fashion style and a music genre, although genre has gone from just general emotions, to focusing on being a bunch of whiny little kids who can't get over their ex. They really just need to shut the hell up and realize they're being idiots and babies.

Emo is just a tend, it doesn't mean they are depressed or anything. If they wear the clothes, have the hair, and listen to that crappy emo pop rock stuff then they are emo..

Depressed people or people who listen to My Chemical Romance or have the Emo Haircut usually will give you the tag of emo at my school.

People call me emo 'cause I have long hair, but I do nothing to it, nor do I listen to music emos do.

 

People also think death metal is emo at my school :lol:.
