What skin color do you think Jesus was?

Featured Replies

Well recently, in school, my friends and I were having a philosophical discussion about the color of Jesus's skin. Some thought it was white (Caucasian) others thought it was black. I thought it was neither of those two. I believe Jesus had the common Arab skin tone that's sort of yellowish... because well he IS an Arab.

On a disscussion basis, post what color you think his skin is, afterall Jesus of Nazareth was infact a real person.

Mods please edit or remove or w/e if against the rules.

Orthodoxy is unconciousness

the only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

He'd have looked like any other man from the middle east - a brown skinned man.

He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart,

and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

- Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

The pictures you see in churches and frescos are just that, imaginary speculation... It's just about impossible he was "white" in the modern sense of the word. He was from the middle-east and more likely than not looked like all the other arabic people living in Palestine 2,000 years ago.

Honestly, does it really matter?

For that matter, did Jesus every actually exsist? But if he did, I'd say the Arab one.

Plus, don't use Negro, it may be the scientific term, but its use through history caused it to get a reputation.

Purple.

Probably looked like a normal guy from the area.

While people can argue whether Jesus was the son of God or a Prophet (as he is in Islam) it's pretty accepted that there was somebody from Bethlehem called Jesus.

Jesus DID historically exist, that much is fact. Whether or not he was the son of God, the messiah, is up for debate.

A dark Arab color, almost definitely, but does it really matter?

Get back here so I can rub your butt.

Yeah, I suppose he did.

Though he'd have been a Carpenter. Plus he was born about 5 B.C. if I remember.

He was actually real?

I don't think so

Yep, everything in the Bible during Jesus's time is true, but before that hasn't been proven. (Garden of Eden is probably not true)

there's proof of jesus being real, it's not proven if he could heal leprosy, walk on water, let the blind see, or if he was the son of God (in Christianity) or a prophet (in Islam)

Pretty much.

But like I said earlier, does it really matter what skin color he was? I think the pic Lancer posted above looks about right.

Close, most believe it was 6 B.C.

Probably more southern Mediterranean than Arab. Palestine was very culturally mixed between Arabs and Romans.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I think it does matter because it shows how history can (quite literally in this case) whitewash things and change details. It's even more relevant when looking at ancient texts (such as the Bible) and how details can be altered over the course of a few thousand years.

ps. If BC is Before Christ & AD is After Death what is the time when Jesus is alive called?

sporadic thought

is it logical to assume jesus was fairly attractive? I mean people that are good orators and gain followings have a tendency to look "good".

edit--BC and AD have a different meaning, they have taken on before and after over time(I forget the name)

AD is Anno Domini I think which is latin for "year of the lord," so There is no inbetween period.

Calender's wrong anyways for one thing. But there really wasn't a time like that. He was born in 6 BC and died around 30 AD, I believe.

he would be a christian, a follower of his own beliefs

Karl Marx was a marxist, Confucious was a Confucionist(spelling) etc.

Wasn't the modern calender started at year 1, instead of year 0?

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.
