August 20, 200520 yr Just stumbled across this, could it mean the end of all passwords in the future? http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Microsoft_F ... N_USB_PORT Would definately teach those script kiddies a lesson  edit : added a better link
August 20, 200520 yr The link does not work. It claims I do not have cookies enabled, which I obviously do since I'm typing a post on this forum.
August 20, 200520 yr Link works now :D Hmm, that's really interesting. Way in the future, maybe it could replace passwords, but for now, I think memorizing our series of letter/number combos is going to stick. :D Everybody hug and spread the love :D
August 20, 200520 yr Yeah I like the idea of not having to remember and enter passwords everywhere you go, but I think it would be a while before that takes off.
August 20, 200520 yr This may cause some weird murders. *chops off a random guys thumb, goes to his computer, access bank account stuff, H4x money* That's just what i think may happen.. oh well ;) ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâï(̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâú_o)/̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâï
August 20, 200520 yr i was going to get a mouse with a finger print reader in it a while ago, but i didnt know how good the technology is, and sometimes my fingers are dirty (i snack on my computer a lot) so i would continually have to keep everything clean, which just isnt my bag.
August 20, 200520 yr It might replace passwords in a few years or so...those computer geeks'll probably find a way to by-pass it by then. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
August 20, 200520 yr Also there are lil sticky pads you can put over your fingerprints that contain other peoples . . .its not that hard Everybody lovin' it, but ain't no body touchin' it
August 20, 200520 yr It might replace passwords in a few years or so...those computer geeks'll probably find a way to by-pass it by then. Im guessing that the way it works if by converting your fingerprint into something like a long digit id such as 2̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã%$̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâãGt634H-p0. This however wouldnt stop keyloggers because if would log the actual key entry into the password field just the same as if you typed it in. :( Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. August 20, 200520 yr Not to mention that these things have been out for several years. Much longer in non-retail areas. The government hasn't switched to them. That, to me, means that they're worthless. Not that the government should be followed in everything, but, you have to admit they're good at being secure.
August 20, 200520 yr Also there are lil sticky pads you can put over your fingerprints that contain other peoples . . .its not that hard Except for those gel fingerprint sensors, but they're impractical and expensive. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
August 20, 200520 yr Not that the government should be followed in everything, but, you have to admit they're good at being secure. Dunno about all government organisations but our policy is 8 character passwords. Which must be changed every 28 days and must contain Uppercase, Lowercare, numbers AND characters *&@~+# lol. And you cant use the same password again. Aparently it also picks up if you use the same password with just one number different at the end too lol. August 20, 200520 yr What Mercifull said. (Edit -- what he said a few posts ago is to what I was referring) Also, what if one needs a stranger to access one's things -- if, for some reason, one can't present one's hands (or irises, or whatever), then the other person can't do it. deviantart account
August 20, 200520 yr In my opinion, fingerprints are something that is too easily to acquire to be used for security.

In spy movies the protagonist drags the villain to the nearest fingerprint scanner to gain entry into the door ^_^ Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. August 20, 200520 yr In my opinion, fingerprints are something that is too easily to acquire to be used for security. In spy movies the protagonist drags the villain to the nearest fingerprint scanner to gain entry into the door ^_^I didn't quite have that solution in mind ;P User scans his finger. Scanned image runs through one-way encryption. Encrypted image is sent to server. Server owner receives the image and saves it. Server owner sends the saved pictured to the authentication service of another server. Unless everyone uses different encryption (which is not going to happen, and which is not made easier by computers becoming faster and faster) it will be a major security issue. After all, you can use two passwords for two different sites, but you can't use two different fingerprints.
August 20, 200520 yr Hmmm acutly i saw one of those today. I went to stapes and they have computers and that there. Theya re always passworded but people go through and end up getting the passwords. But this pitciulare computer was not for sale, its like for the employs to use. And it has one of those thumb readers on it... I was tempted to put my thumb on it. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid. John Lewis is a great, great shop.
August 20, 200520 yr I for one don't think passwords will ever be replaced... For one, fi a password gets stolen you just change it If someone "steals" your iris, fingerprint, dna, what have you... youre stuck with it. For life. I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

I dotn know about DNA, but i think with the iris and Fingerprint, it dosent reconize the whole fingerprint or iris. Certain points are set, and only those points are read. So like if you wanted to change it, just change the points it reads. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!

August 21, 200520 yr Exactly. It wouldn't be hard. People are already stealing fingerprints as it is now. Getting the exact pattern of the iris and such wouldn't be hard either.
August 21, 200520 yr I'll have to look in slashdot in a bit, somewhere someone made a really detailed comment on the three types of passwords. There was memorized passwords ( I think), biological passwords, and one other kind I forgot... I'll look for it in an hour or so I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
