August 21, 200520 yr the most "secure" types reads your iris, you have to say the password (voice recalling) and put your fingerprint. but... what if you vut of a thumb, takes out hes eye and have his voice on tape, thats scary right there. R.I.P. Shiva and Steve
August 21, 200520 yr but... what if you vut of a thumb, takes out hes eye and have his voice on tape, thats scary right there. It would however be a bit extreme for the average party hat thief. lol Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. August 21, 200520 yr oo oo oo my dad has one of those at work, but it reads his eyes (iris?), its awesome, i went to work with him one afternoon and hes all like "we have to take the abck way in or ill get in trouble if i get caught having you here" so we go in, go towards his office door, sets his chin in this thing, it lasers his eyes, im like "pomg!!!1" it was so awesome, but inorder to steal it, gouge out a guys eyes, my dads a pretty big guy, i dun think someone could get near him with a spoon
August 22, 200520 yr What happens if you get a big cut in your thumb that it recorded? How do you go about changing it without getting into the fingerprint secrued area? If you can change it without getting inside it seems pretty pointless. I bet there is a way to do it but I would have no clue since I have never seen one in real life.
August 22, 200520 yr Perhaps you should have a scan of all your fingerprints incase there was an accident. August 22, 200520 yr id say something other than the fingers would be better to scan because what if your a part time tree logger (and soo many of you are) you might accidently lose your hands to one of those randow falling chainsaws and never access your por.. Erm.. music again! seriously though i think its a bit stupid to get considering passwords would cause less hassle First and only pixel thinger I made.
August 22, 200520 yr What if you don't have thumbs...? How does a profession differ from an occupation?

The thing is, you don't need to gouge his eyes out. You could intercept the encryption information when he scans his eyes, copy that and imprint it into the scanner. This is basically just like a shortcut of typing your password in, if it was for a commercial business (like a bad guy from james bond or something, bwahahah) then yea that is quite a per[bleep]ement, but you can just type your password in if you lose a thumb :P
August 22, 200520 yr fingerprints can be stolen if the password is in your head notone can get it out of you (within reason). Remembering your passwords is the best way to go unless you suffer a head injury and forget them in wich case your screwed. ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002
August 22, 200520 yr I've been on a fieldtrip for school three years ago, and they had this in an organisation, for testing. It didn't really work, it was too sensitive, thumbs had to be completely dry, no cuts etc.. I don't know how it developed though. Edit: They had iris scanners in the centrum too, but they weren't very good either. It took the people who worked there 4 efforts to get it in. :? August 22, 200520 yr The iris scanning would be much better than that and I think they already use those for high security facilities. At least only Charlie's Angels can get through if you use both fingerprint and iris scanning protection :D :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
August 23, 200520 yr other than passords no security thingamabob is good by its self. if u had a scanner that u need iris, fingerprints and proximity to the terminal it would be secure. that or we tick with passwords till we madea implant that can interface with the brain so you just think about it opening and it does. off topic a bit, this dude has all his doors riged so that when he gets to them, they open and for no one else. he has a implant in his arm :D First and only pixel thinger I made.

And just for the record, i don't believe everything he says, but this particular thing interested me so i did some background research on it, it works out  Edit: Just fallen victim to my own stupidity, i realise that even if you can't crack the code, if you could install a keylogger that copied the code you could still gain entry. However if you could implenent that kind of security system you'd hope you could also buy a good anti-spyware program. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

The first time I read Da Vinci Code I didn't beleive all the hype about the ancient cult with Leo but then with some research it proved correct. A I speak I am using a fingerprint keyboard and I had a cut on my thumb last week but it still allowed me access to my keyboard, when my sister tries she gets rejected since I havn't put her on it =)

August 27, 200520 yr In my opinion, fingerprints are something that is too easily to acquire to be used for security. In spy movies the protagonist drags the villain to the nearest fingerprint scanner to gain entry into the door ^_^I didn't quite have that solution in mind ;P User scans his finger. Scanned image runs through one-way encryption. Encrypted image is sent to server. Server owner receives the image and saves it. Server owner sends the saved pictured to the authentication service of another server. Unless everyone uses different encryption (which is not going to happen, and which is not made easier by computers becoming faster and faster) it will be a major security issue. After all, you can use two passwords for two different sites, but you can't use two different fingerprints. Err, Pyro, that's not exactly an optimal way of doing things: 1. User scans finger 2. Computer adds unique identifiable text to finger (ie, "signed letter #1857312 to BS Corp., Maine, USA") 3. Image + signature are encrypted by a user's secret key. Receiver can decrypt using public key, but since we're using an asymmetric system (ie RSA, Triple DES, Rijndael, w/e), he cannot recreate a signature like that from the plaintext. 4. Server owner cannot reuse Encrypted text to sign anything but that letter. This is no different from current signing algorhythms (Bob, I hate that word. Probably spelt it wrong again, but nvm), where a signature /always/ includes a unique identifier for that message (may also be the (md5/sha-n)-hash of the message).
