xpandax
There isn't the same amount of bots as there used to be, so be careful if you wanna report someone. A lot of innocent skillers get caught up in the mix and they get banned. The only bots I would report would be autotypers. Those are more obvious. And yes, bots get banned, along with hundreds of innocent players. lmfao, no one gets falsely banned because of people reporting them as a macroer anymore... that hasn't happened since back in 04. they can tell the difference between someone actually macroing and someone just not responding. Anyone telling you they are innocent is just trying to avoid the embarrassment that goes with being a caught autoer. And no, not all bots get banned... only the truly blatant ones get perm banned. hell, I macroed one of my friends pures to from 80-94 magic without even taking very many breaks to reduce suspicion and you can clearly look up "illlinois" he's still not banned, and i macroed his magic about a year and a half ago. Almost all bots these days are scripted..in fact even auto clickers are scripted...you just don't view the script. And coming from someone who knows a lot about testing, if it can be automated, it has trends, and if it has trends, then it's detectable. It just takes a lot of man hours on a large scale such as the player population for runescape.

Which is why I also argue that stating that no one has been falsely accused since 2004 is a joke. I will agree that if someone makes a good enough script, then jagex isn't going to want to spend the time trying to break it/detect it. However, these scripts are likely hard to come by(that is available to the public)
xpandax
Fine, i'll change my comment from an absolute, to being HIGHLY unlikely. Jagex has had their current macro detection systems in place since around late 05 to early 06. Jagex's system detects trends and flags those accounts, the accounts are then looked at by people trained to determine whether someone is macroing or not.. someone getting falsely banned for macroing is highly unlikely. Current scripts don't have to be perfect, far from it. They only have to be good enough to avoid being flagged by jagex's system, which really isn't very hard. Scripts use variable timing in order to avoid a noticeable trend... while complete randomness probably isn't possible current scripts are certainly capable of being random enough to avoid being flagged by the system... even if you are macroing extremely blatantly... as in 20+ hours with a non variable script the account won't be banned for close to 2 weeks. I've had my fair share of test accounts to test out jagex's detection system. I've had 3 accounts make it to 85 mining banking iron ore the whole way before getting banned... if you use a more random script and put in log out functions, it is pretty easy to get away with macroing... in fact i've done it on my friend's pure. The Dark Lord
This is why I'm suspicious every time that someone asks about reporting "bots". You have idiots like this guy running around reporting someone because they don't reply to one line of text. The guy that reported this level 138 was level 133, so apparently they come in all shapes and sizes. After google searching this guy, he appears to be members of very shifty sites, such as one that advertised selling stolen accounts. If it feels necessary, a player mod might want to log into world 52 (Piscatoris Colony fishing area) and monitor this guy for a while in case he really is trying to false report everyone he sees. And I'm again greeted by this: this is below honourable, it's downright stupid to treat customers like this. Maninblack144
Custom clients do exist, but they are even easier to detect thanks to the custom headers. People using them risk a lot. And for the record, all those default woodcutting bots before balanced trades etc. were mostly run by a handful of people using a customized client able to handle hundreds of accounts on a single computer. The creator didn't share it with the world, as was to be expected. It's not like you ever had a choice to begin with.
Zoob
Well my faith in bots getting banned just went up a fair bit. I was mining ess in Yanille the other day and every time I banked there was a high level with a fire cape repeatedly saying "14". I mined for a few hours, took a long break and he was still there when I came back. I tried talking to him but the answer was always "14" so I reported him. Checked the high scores today and "Mulisha kid9" is gone. Sayonara moron, hope it was worth it.

Most people used small armies of level 3's to mine and then they would trade it over to their main. This client that was openly available could handle 15-20 accounts depending on computer specs... the annoying thing was that if you wanted to run multiple clients you had to make "virtual computers"
1roddad1
Jagex detects human-like mouse movement, so if its robotic like, they can usually detect it without reports. But with some really good bots, they are designed to act like a human. By reporting them, Jagex pays closer attention to them, so even human-like movement even has flaws  My theory is that if you act oddly, you get sent a random event that helps to prove/disprove if you are a bot. Based on the time and how many tries it takes to finish the random, Jagex decides if you are a bot or not (even if you aren't) There are three sides to any argument: your side, my side and the right side. blossom2581
That won't help In computer science we have a test called "Turing Test" which tests the intelligence of a machine. In this test, a human judge tries to have conservation with a machine and another human, of which they are isolated. If the judge cannot tell apart the human and the machine, the machine is said to have passed this test. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test It can be compared to a bot trying to disguise as a human. Yet, so far, no machine has passed this test, so in a nutshell, no bot can effectively mimic a human being. Use of such a bot is never flawless. Given that the RWT "macroing" expert has all gone, and with the experience of Jagex in dealing with sophisicated bots, I doubt any casual people who tries to use bots can get away with macroing. Report 'em all, and let them pay the price of cheating =) A new member; f2p for 4+ yearsSeldom get online due to in real life businessAlways support f2p improvements

(And it's also proven that every non-turing-complete language won't be a ble to write a program to pass the turing test). ANyways, all these assumptions aside: I'm still unfairly banned with no reason given.... (Something much worse than letting a few bots slip through is banning innocent people). Given I don't use a mouse, but a touch-screen (Home made it myself - it not a touch pad, but a real touch screen).. That way I don't have to move my mouse at all and I can click at a much faster rate.
