Two methods to provide cheap laughs for all the family at home.

1. Place the bowl at a height not accessible to the dog, [bleep]e the food with enough rat poison the knock the socks off a Rhino!! Wait till bird approaches, watch result, chuckle insanely afterwords.

2. Repeat as above, but instead of rat poison use a standard household rice, watch as Cuckoo the Pigeon fly away and all of a sudden bang!! starts to slow and falls to this death!

The only problem with your second step is it is an urban myth, birds can eat rice just fine.

Isnt the myth just that they will explode if they do?

Regardless, Im pretty sure that when they eat dry rice their stomach gets dried up and they die because the rice absorbs the fluid or something.

You could buy a doghouse and put the food in there. Or you could train your dogs to hunt bird...then you wont need to feed them! (this method kills 2 birds with one stone  )

The myth is that any kind of rice hurts them at all. They can eat dried rice completely fine.

only option is to feed them inside or develope a dog only kennel with a roof. or just get a 22.

once they've had a taste theres no getting rid of them. tried the bird feeder thing and that didn't work. they figured out how to turn off the boom box :ohnoes: then we got a dog that actually goes chasing after birds but they got smarter and began to have half the birds distract the dog while the others fed then they would switch jobs. actually quite funny really and you could make up for the lost dog food by opening a theater at feeding time

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

Haven't you tried shooting the birds yet? Even if it is just warning shots. If the problem persists, I suggest you seek professional pest control.

Oh good. Everyone's a comedian.

What's up with all this Lenin-love ?

OT: I don't have any good suggestions.

It's not really our fault that the thread posed a very weird question you know. Weird question here = Weird (or in your case, "comedic") answers. \'

Purchase a bird. Or catch your own, it doesn't matter. You just need to procure a bird. Then, when you feed the dgos, snap the bird's neck in front of all the other birds. And drop it into the bowl. Make an example.

Or set up a birdfeeder. That way, they go there instead, and you can attach a car battery to it.

I was attempting to drink orange juice as I read this. It is now all over the computer.

My dogs are also outside dogs, but I don't have the same problem. You see, I also have outside cats. Rather than eating the dog food, the cats wait until the birds come for the dog food. They then catch the birds. Yep, they bait them.

Set the bowls up inside, in a back hallway or something, where the dogs might make a mess but it won't be difficult to clean up. Alternatively, you could just sit next to the bowls until the dogs finish eating and remove the food afterwards.

Are you saying your dogs are outside 24/7?

Why shouldn't they be? I'd never let a dog in my house, way too messy.

Aside from all the possible bad things that could happen to your dog while outside (jesus man, it's a living thing that is pretty stupid, why the hell wouldn't you let it in?), it NEEDS to be with your family. Dogs are pack animals, they need to live with their humans, not outside. Keeping them outside all the time can damage their psychological health. Even if you decide to dismiss that, what the hell? Leaving a dog outside in the back yard for 24 hours with no AC or heat? Do you even have a shelter outside for them? No protection? Nowhere to run if something attacks them? Tons of ways to injure themselves? You really need to bring your dogs in unless they are working dogs on a farm that you spend 8 hours with a day herding animals. Most people buy dogs for companionship, not for being a god damned lawn ornament

edit: What breed of dog do you two even have?

A dog can get more exercise being outside rather than in and I'm sure the OP has a dog house or an awning of some sort so the dogs aren't sitting out in rain. Your other points don't even makes sense because not many animals attack dogs and there are just as many way to injure themselves inside as well as outside.

If he goes out to play with his dogs everyday then their psychological health will be fine.

AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Yeah, because standing around/walking around in a small backyard is the same as 2 hours of walking or playing at a dog park right? Right? Oh my, he has an awning or dog house that can protect them partially from the rain, but what exactly are the dogs going to do when it is really hot out, like it tends to get in the months known as summer? Or cold during winter? Go inside their dog house or under their awning and crank up their doggy AC/heat? Depending on where you live there are lots of things that can attack a dog OR PEOPLE THAT CAN JUST WALK UP AND TAKE YOUR DOG. Yeah he can get hurt inside, the difference being that you would be INSIDE WITH HIM to know if he got hurt or stop him from getting hurt. God damn some people are horrible pet owners

Oh, and yeah because going outside for 20 minutes a day to play with your dog is the same as having them live with you in a steady family where they can be with all members of their family. Yeah, same thing right?

edit: I don't even want to think about how rarely your (OP and that other guy) dogs go to the vet

Last time I checked dogs liked being outside. They don't just stand around unless they're chained to something.

In the Summer time dogs look for shade and water to cool off. In they Winter time they grow thick fur, which is also another reason why people don't like dogs in the house because they get hair on furniture and a common guest could be allergic to dogs.

What if the dog gets hurt inside but no one is home? It's the same situation.

I don't have dogs, I hate dogs. Many of my friends and family have dogs and they all are solely outdoor dogs. They are animals, they are just fine out doors. None have health problems. They are all friendly. They all have a dog house to go into when the weather is bad, and they all survive below freezing all the way up to really hot just fine.

I can assure you that dogs are a lot happier and healthier indoors than outdoors, and yes they do like outdoors, but imagine being outdoors in a small backyard 24/7 that gives you no where near the area you need to get even close to adequate exercise. How exciting. Shade in the summer does not cut it. A lot of dogs that people own are from all over the world, and lots of them have different issues surrounding temperature. You cannot just leave a dog outside in the heat all the time, that is both cruel and irresponsible. Thick fur does not cut it either. Lots of dogs do not get even close to the amount of fur needed to survive outdoors in most American places during the winter. Dogs won't just grow coats of fur during the winter like some sort of magic. They get hair on the furniture? It's called a hair cut, or brushing their hair everyday to get loose parts out, or NOT GETTING A DOG THAT SHEDS IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE THE RESPONSIBILITY.

If a dog gets hurt inside then you will see it the instant you get home, and if your dog is prone to hurting itself while you are gone (read: you do not keep dangerous things out of its reach) then either putting it in a crate or in a room of the house is the safest option.

I do not sound like PETA, PETA believes that people should not own pets, I am saying you should know how to take care of your pet instead of tossing them outside

They are animals yes, but they are also DOMESTICATED. They are bred to be companion dogs and expecting them to live outside on the basis that they are animals is just ludicrous. You are an animal, so why don't you spend 24/7 outside, even when it is freezing cold and blistering hot with no electricity to keep you cool or warm? They can SURVIVE, but I guarantee you they are not happy. Let your families dogs inside for a day or two, and then give them the option to go outside. I can guarantee you they will not stay outside if they have the option to go inside after seeing what it is like.

You two tell me, what are the reasons NOT to keep a dog indoors, aside from being too lazy to train it and keep control of it?

edit: One thing that just instantly sprung to my mind about winter, when there is snow on the ground, dogs get snow built up between the pads of their paws. This snow then gets compacted as they walk and freezes. This is VERY VERY VERY uncomfortable for dogs, as they have frozen feet and now must bite at it and pull it away from the sensitive fur between the paws. My dog gets this after about 15 minutes outside on the right winter day, imagine what walking on snow ALL day would do to their paws.

They get even less exercise inside

Common guests may be allergic to dogs

They can still be hurt

They can break or chew things in the house

That's four. Your main reason is that they aren't happy. What makes you think that dogs that have owners that dress them up and never let them out of their sight makes them anymore happy than being outside?

If common guests are allergic to dogs, THEN WHY THE [bleep] WOULD YOU GET A DOG THAT SHEDS? That is not a reason to keep it outside, that is a reason to NOT get it or REHOME it.

They can be hurt but their chances are greatly lower than outdoors

They can break or chew things. Yes, but if you TRAIN them they will not, lazy people do not train their dogs.

Never let them out? My dog is an inside dog, I am 100% certain that my dog is more happy and healthy than any of the dogs left outside. My dog is an inside dog, but that doesn't mean he doesn't get exercise, it means when he is not getting exercise or play outside he is indoors, especially at night.

Here is our schedule

7:30 AM: 30 minute walk

8:00 AM: Goes back to bed with me

8:00 - 4:00 PM: He sleeps, not because he is bored but because he is tired.

5:00 - 7:00 PM: 2 hours at the dog park. Intense running and socialization with other people and dogs. Every single dog that goes there (which is a ton, and they are all there EVERY day) are inside dogs.

8:00 PM: If he still has energy, I play with him until he is tired. Sometimes a family friend brings his dog over and they play really hard for an hour or two.

Oh, and he is a 20 pound breed of dog considered not to be high energy.

You are telling me that a dog being locked up in a backyard gets anywhere NEAR that much exercise? A backyard has no where near the adequate space for a dog to get exercise, and the owner should be the one responsible for exercising the dog, not leaving the dog outside expecting it to get exercise on its own. Outside does not = exercise.

What most of your points come down to is either a stupid owner, or a lazy owner. Those are your reasons for keeping a dog outside.

Oh and by the way

Overexposure to the sun is considered to be the main cause of dog skin cancer.

Whats wrong with dogs outside 24/7 :? (if they have acces to a shelter)

Dogs are animals. Yes, everyone understands this point. But what people fail to grasp apparently, is that they are bred for DOMESTICATION. That means relying on humans to take care of them, not ignoring them and leaving them outside exposed to the elements and god knows what else. Ticks, disease, sickness. Anything.

edit: to elaborate, in the winter, things like: frost bite, hypothermia, iced paws, cracked pads, more

summer: exposure to sun can cause cancer, sunburn, dehydration, overheating, and more

You people that own outside dogs, next time you go to the vet (which I'm sure is once in a blue moon), ask the vet about your dog being a 24/7 outside dog.
